Something For You - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Tonight episode kicks off with a lovely day in London where King Henry is getting dressed by his Groom Culpepper and the Queen Catherine is having fun with dance instructions from a very flamboyant dancer. King Henry watches at the door as Catherine and the girls dance away. After not seeing his queen for a while, they have dinner to which Henry finally tells her the reason for his absence. The King says, “I assume you found something to amuse yourself with while I was away.” (I think she has) With the Earl of Surrey attending to the King and Queen, Henry announces that he is going to appoint the Earl a Knight in the Order of the Guard. Of course Henry has another gift for his wife Catherine. This time, a stunning blue ring to which you can tell Culpepper is deeply offended. Henry, before leaving tells that Catherine is to bear his child. Catherine and Culpepper exchange forlorn looks.

Henry walks outside and is stopped by a priest that tells the King that people want to be healed by the King because of his “God’s Grace” that is given to him when he was appointed king. Henry shows his kindness by blessing everyone that is lame and sick. He particularly shows this as he kneels down to a woman who has lost all of her hair. Walking away the King feels more uplifted after this ordeal. Henry rides of to “go away for a couple of days” and stays at Heaver Castle, the home of Anne of Cleaves. Elizabeth is practicing her dancing in front of Anne as Henry enters. Henry gives Elizabeth a book written by Tacitus, a roman historian. Henry tells Elizabeth, “Without knowledge life is not worth having.” He stays for supper. John Seymour (Lord Hartford as he is called) tells the now Lord Earl of Surrey about the respect and manners that the Order of the Guard has. To this, Lord Surrey simply says that he is not unfamiliar of the Order and says that four generations of his family have been in it and the hinting Seymour family has only been in the order a little while. Catherine wonders where the King has gone and with Lady Rochford, talks about Culpepper and how Catherine wants to see him again. The plan starts to take into effect and Lady Rochford warns Catherine not to get pregnant to which Catherine replies “Don’t you think I know how to meddle with a man without conceiving a child?”

Back at Heaver’s Castle, Anne and Henry talk about the children of the King and Anne talks them up as usual. Anne returns the wedding ring that the king gave her and tells him to break it into pieces as because it holds no value to her. Back at the castle, Lady Rochford watches as Culpepper and Catherine meddle. Culpepper tells the Queen to take the relationship further. By the sounds from the room, that means a lot more then just kissing. Charles Brandon and the other Knights of the Order induct Lord Surrey as one of their own. He is donned with the garter that translates to be “Evil be to him who evil thinks.” You can tell right away that he loves this while John Seymour does not. King Henry and Anne are still talking and Henry thanks her for not fighting the annulment of the marriage. Henry tells Anne of a letter that was intercepted from the French Ambassador who wrote that Anne was loved by the people and they all regretted the divorce between them. Henry goes on telling that the letter said that she was the sweetest, most gracious, and kindest of any Queen they have ever had. Anne reminds Henry of the new queen and compliments her. She says more that she is young and full of life and that the King must adore her. (Is that a compliment or an insult?) Meanwhile back in London, Catherine and Culpepper are at it again while Lady Rochford is still watching through the keyhole. Hearing something she warns Catherine that someone is coming.

John Seymour is home and is wife reassures that things that are done can be undone. Calling the queen a frivolous and stupid girl, she tells that her husband needs to handle the slanders of the family that the Lord Surrey has put on them and that he could arrange to have some “misfortune” to happen to Lord Surrey. Lady Rochford attempts to win over Culpepper by climbing into his bed naked to this it seems that it is wanted. (Like, who wouldn’t want that?) In a pub, Lord Surrey dressed in his Order garb, gloats over his newly appointed position. Acting very rudely with the staff and giving a commoner a ring, it is clear that the Earl is only making fun of the Order and those in it. Hidden in the background, you see someone walking out suspiciously. During a council, Catherine interrupts with the news that she believes that she is pregnant. King tells her that she needs to lie down and rest. In the next scene we see the Lady Mary and Chapuis talking and it is apparent that the Spanish Ambassador is not feeling too good. Chapcuis tells that he has heard rumors that the new queen Catherine is pregnant and tells that if she doesn’t have a son, then the throne is to her because of the fact that Jane Seymour was never “formally” crowned and that Prince Edward has no right to the throne. He tells Mary that people are praying that Mary succeeds the throne and that Catherine doesn’t have a child (Kind of harsh you think). To this news Mary is overjoyed, of course.

Back at the castle in London, Henry and Catherine are walking around talking about the travels of Catherine and Henry over the news of her pregnancy. However, the news breaks that Catherine was mistaken and is not pregnant. Henry storms off to the news. Catherine returns to her room and writes a sad letter to Culpepper telling that it makes her heart die that she could not always be in his company. Later that night in Culpepper’s room, Lady Rochford is dictating the letter and laughing at her desperation Culpepper however takes a little offense to that. Henry and Anne are back at it together again. This time they are playing cards. Anne has improved since her last time playing and beats the King. With flirting apparent across the table and wine being poured in their glasses, Henry asks if he can “come to her bed”. WOAH! Time out! She was not good enough when she was his wife in which he called her “as ugly as a horse”. But now, he wants to sleep with her? I guess this is how the King works. Culpepper and Catherine continue their steamy romance and Culpepper calls Catherine his sweet little fool for the second time while back in the castle of Anne, Henry and Anne are snuggled up on the bed.

King Henry then visits Prince Edward and Lady Bryan. Henry gives Edward a dagger for a gift and Lady Bryan starts to panic when the Prince puts the dagger to Henry’s throat. However, the king is not affected by this and doesn’t see this as bad parenting. This is truly a King that trusts his son. Henry shows his skill at Herbology when he gives Lady Bryan a vile of “his own concoction” in the case that Edward would become ill. Henry talks of Edward’s mother Jane Seymour and tells that he is to be a good boy. Catherine is reading the book the King gave her in the last episode when the King enters and tells Catherine that they are to leave for Whitehall Castle and that Mary is to come. To this Catherine throws her pouty face on and asks to why she needs to come. Henry snaps and tells her that they need to impress the people and that Mary is a beloved figure and that the decision has nothing to do with her. (LOW BLOW!) Catherine thinking that the King is upset over the fact that she is not pregnant insists that she could be with child if the King wants it. To this the King just walks away. A parade is marching by a plantation and it is the King and his band. A small boy is centered on as the precession moves by. The townspeople come and see the Lady Mary and the King. A soldier tosses a coin at the boy. King Henry calls the people “The real people of England” and that they love their king. Catherine looks back and sees that Culpepper is there.

Bishop Gardner enters the study of John Seymour and talks about the newly appointed Lord Surrey. He tells about the “behavior” of the Earl telling that he gloated over the fact in front of “Boars and Pips” and brings sworn statements and tells of the behaviors of Lord Surrey. He presses further that John needs to investigate further on it. This gives John Seymour an idea to how he can get the Lord Surrey after all. The precession continues all the way to Cathedral City of London. Here Henry attends a blessing of you guessed it, Him! The King speaks to the people and tells that the people of Lincoln are all forgiven for their rebellion of him. He pardons all. Later that evening, Catherine canvasses the room that she will be staying at. Culpepper and the King are talking in the King’s chambers and Culpepper compliments Catherine and the King. Catherine is waiting impatiently for her lover Culpepper and Lady Rochford fetches Culpepper to which upon entering, Catherine is dressed in nothing but a robe. Culpepper and Catherine start getting it on in…wait for it…the stool chamber? Shows how much class this girl has doesn’t it? The episode ends with Culpepper and Catherine going at it to which Culpepper says, “Jesus Christ!”
