<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
The scene opens at Whitehall Palace in London 1545. A servant walks up to a newly aged Kind Henry and hands him a magnifying glass. Lord Hartford (John Seymour) enters in and tells that Lord Surrey lost 600 men at another Battle of Boulogne including Captains of the army too. King Henry tells his lords that Lord Surrey is to be brought back to England to be examined. Grimsley is given the rank of Baron and Charles Brandon tells that the Emperor is commanding that people rally against England and to take their ships. The French Ambassador stops Lord Hartford in the hall and tells that the King's disease and plague is due to the fact that he took Boulogne from the French and to try to convince the King to give up. Gardiner and Grimsley talk and they plan to push the King more of the "heresies" of the people. Charles admits that Bridgette is his mistress to his son Henry and Henry is ok by it and Henry tells Catherine that he is tired of the betrayal of everyone in his service. She tells the King that she wrote a book. "The Lamentations of a Sinner". Bishop Gardiner enters and tells that they want to arrest an Anne Aschew for being a heretic. The king agrees.

Anne Aschew is in the church preaching when the guards come and arrest her. Lord Surrey is back from Boulogne and says that all his actions were noble and that all the Captains who died were good men of honor. He tells that no help was given and that he was forced to act with the men he had. Surrey's title of Captain of Boulogne is taken from him and Lord Hartford is put into place. Sir Richard enters the chambers of Lady Mary and tells that Chapuis, the Spanish Ambassador, died. She is sad and tells that she is all alone. But Richard comforts her and tells that there are others who believe in the same faith as she does. He tells that things are already in motion to get the Queen under trial of heresy as well. Mary is happy about this. Anne is escorted to the tower and Grimsley and Richard are there as well. They want to know about the money that was given to her. She admits that a man in a blue coat gave it to her and she refuses to give any more details. They try to press her to convict the Queen and she still is silent. They escort her to the RACK!!

Surrey talks to Charles about the help that was supposed to arrive when he was in Boulogne and that it never came. He is mad that he is robbed from his position and blames Lord Hartford. He tells that he is going to go against him. Charles warns Surrey. Meanwhile, Anne is on the rack and ready to be…well…Racked. The guy doing the torturing is appalled that a woman is put on the rack and tells his servants to only slightly pull her. Grimsley questions Anne again but she is still not talking. Grimsley tells to put more stretch on her. The man refuses and leaves. Grimsley calls Anne a stupid woman and questions her beliefs of the sacrament. She stays to her Lutheran ways and Richard and Grimsley pull tight on the ropes. The man against the torture runs to the King and tells that Grimsley and Richard are torturing Anne outside the King's law. Kind Henry tells him that the devil has many faces and that requires torture and that he don't care. Back in the torture room, they try to wake Anne, but she is still not saying anything.

King Henry is in Parliament on December 24th, 1545. He tells that he is upset on how the two sides of the religion are constantly fighting and that no one needs to try to interpret the Bible and make a mockery of it. He tells everyone to get along and stop fighting. Later, Thomas Seymour talks to Queen Catherine that the King is tired of everyone ridiculing the Bible and that he has made himself the declarer of what is right and what is wrong in the religion. Catherine tells that he just needs some time and will conform to her believes. King Henry is only telling to show charity and love. However, Lady Hartford tells the Queen that King Henry has opened a Pandora's Box and will not be able to close it later. Hartford returns from his time in Boulogne and tells that there is peace there under the condition that the King aggress to sell Boulogne back to the French for 2 million crowns in 8 years. Henry congratulates Hartford and Grimsley enters with news that Bishop Gardiner wants to arrest 3 others for heresy including the Queen Catherine's sister. He agrees. Meanwhile, Lord Surrey meets with men and tells that the task is to kill the ones close to Prince Edward and that whoever controls the prince, controls the kingdom. Queen Catherine enters the hall and tells Hartford that Gardiner has arrested her sister. Lady Mary smugly enters and questions Gardiner about Anne Aschew. He tells that she is going to be burned at the stake. Surrey is walking and is under arrest for treason.

At the execution of Anne, Lady Hartford tells the executioner to put a ball of gun powder around Anne's neck to end her suffering quickly. He obliges and as she is being prepped to be burned, Grimsley tells Lady Hartford that Bishop Gardiner is going to see her very soon. The burning begins and within moments the fire reaches the gun powder and Anne is engulfed in flames. Surrey is being interrogated by Sir Richard and Surrey's cousin and he denies that he was not going to take control. A friend of Surrey's, Martin, enters the tower with a dagger to give to Surrey. He is planning to escape at high tide through the toilet. Catherine welcomes back her sister who was released from Gardiner's grasps. Meanwhile, Surrey starts to put his plan into action but he is caught by the guards. He is then brought to trial for the reasons for his actions. His followers are yelling for Surrey's release and the Lords feel that he is guilty and should be put to death. The council tells Hartford that they don't think that Surrey needs to be found guilty but Hartford threatens him and tells that they don't want the wrath of the King on them.

Catherine is with Mary and she realizes that she is looking quite smug. She tells that they used to be great friends and now they are not. She wants to know what happened but Mary just tells that the King is looking for a new wife because Catherine has not given him an heir. She sees right through Mary and knows the truth. Meanwhile, the council, in fear of Hartford, finds Surrey guilty and that he is to be drawn and corded, the harshest punishment given. The king sits with Lords and Bishops and his wife Catherine for dinner. Catherine tells that she is translating the works of many people and the King warns that not everyone can read religious works. Catherine stands up for what she believes and tells that everyone should be able to read and that it is not a sin. Henry gets fed up with her and tells her to leave. Everyone is leaving and Bishop Gardiner stays behind. He tells that Catherine should be put to death for what she did to the King. The King warns Gardiner to not accuse the Queen of heresy without proof. Gardiner tells that he has proof and wants to draft up papers to bring Catherine to trial. Henry tells that she could be brought to trial, but her life is spared. The episode ends.
