Astronauts Sam Conrad and Warren Marcusson watch as their spacecraft is prepared for its flight to Mars the next day. Marcusson wonders why they're spending their last night staring at their spacecraft, and Sam wonders if his friend is afraid. He admits that he is, and that he's a scientist, not a trained pilot. Sam wonders if they could just send his mind and is frightened of what they'll find. Marcusson says that the unknown would scare anyone. Vic Perrin, one of the Martians, was a widely-in-use voiceover actor . He is probably best remembered as the Control Voice from the original Outer Limits.
Paul Comi returns in "The Odyssey of Flight 33'' and "The Parallel.''
Roddy McDowall was a veteran actor who appeared in both The Planet of the Apes movie and TV show .
Vic Perrin is also in the "Ring-a-Ding Girl."

That's gonna be our world for a long time, Sam, and yet we stand out here watching her just three hours before we take off.
Sam Conrad: Odd?

Opening Narration
Narrator: You are looking at a species of flimsy little two-legged animal with extremely small heads whose name is Man. Warren Marcusson, age thirty-five. Samuel A. Conrad, age thirty-one... They're taking a highway into space--Man unshackling himself and sending his tiny, groping fingers up into the unknown. Their destination is Mars, and in just a moment we'll land there with them.

Teenya: We don't, Mr. Conrad. As you will no doubt soon realize, you are speaking our language.

First Martian: Unconscious transference. You'd call it hypnosis of a sort.

(The front of the house slides open to reveal bars of a cage; the entire community of people, men, women, and children of all ages are outside watching Conrad as if he were part of a zoo. There is a sign in front of him that reads 'Earth Creature in his native habitat', which Conrad picks up, reads, then promptly throws down)
Sam Conrad: (yelling up towards the sky) Marcusson! Marcusson, you were right! You were right. People are alike. People are alike everywhere.

And he will remain here in his cage with the running water and the electricity and the central heat as long as he lives. Samuel Conrad has found the Twilight Zone.

Cultural References
This episode is based on the short story "Brothers Beyond the Void" by Paul Fairman in Fantastic Adventures March, 1952, and was also included in August Derleth's anthology Worlds of Tomorrow.
