A Most Unusual Camera - Recap

Paula Diedrich is in a hotel room with her husband, Chester, reading about the theft of an antique store. The couple are the thieves and are going over the stolen item, which includes an antique camera with an inscription in French on it. Chester tries taking a picture of Paula with it then complains about how little they got for the heist that Paula planned. They're interrupted when the picture emerges from the camera. Chester examines it and it shows Paula is wearing a fur coat. He figures it's a gag camera that only takes the faces of the subject and puts them on a pre-developed body. They start disposing of the items and open a chest. Inside is a fur coat and Paula goes to the window to try it on. Chester quickly realizes that the camera took a picture of the future, five minutes early.



That night, Chester is still examining the camera and wonders if it's black magic. Paua scoffs at him and takes a picture of the door with it: it shows Paula's brother Woodward, who was sent to prison seven years ago. Paula is scared but Chester insists Woodward couldn't possibly be there... until Woodward walks in the door, saying that he broke out of prison. He figured that he could hide out with them. Chester shows him the picture and Woodward realizes something is going on. They try to figure out what to do with the camera and Chester figures they should give it to the world. However, when Woodward, flips over to the races, Chester decides they could put it to use for themselves by taking a picture of the winning board and place their bets accordingly.



The trio win big at the track after taking six photos. They go back to their hotel rooms and figure out how to spend their money, and the waiter comes in to collect their dishes. He notices the camera and translates the inscriptions. It says that each user is limited to 10 pictures. They get the waiter out and then argue over how to use their remaining two cameras. They accidentally trigger the camera and the picture shows Paula screaming. Chester figures that it means that Woodward tries to kill him. He draws a knife and struggles with Woodward, and the two of them fall out the window. Paula starts crying... until she sees the money. She uses the last picture to take a photo of the two of them lying below the window in the courtyard



The waiter, Pierre, comes in and starts taking the money. She threatens to call the cops but he points out that he knows they're thieves and she can't call the police on him or do anything to stop him. He advises her to get out before the police arrive in response to the deaths. As he goes, Pierre notices that the picture has emerged from the camera, and there's more than two bodies in the photo. Paula runs to the window... and trips, falling to her death. Pierre checks the photo and discovers there are four corpses in the courtyard. He drops the camera... and falls to his death.
