| CBS wanted to use the Twilight Zone as the mid-season replacement show for the very series which replaced them "Fair Exchange," only in a one-hour format. The producers were not at all happy to oblige and the season was considered a bust. With producer Buck Houghton gone, Herbert Hirschman was hired as his replacement. Hirschman changed the look of the opening sequence and now needed some new scripts. Once again RodSerling, Richard Matheson and Charles Beaumont were hired back. Serling's input would lessen this season, shooting two opening sequences behind a gray background so he could make less trips to Los Angeles. Beaumont's work load was also lessened due to a developing brain disease. Earl Hamner, Jr. and Reginald Rose were asked to fill in with scripts. With just five episodes remaining, Hirschman received an offer to work at NBC on a series called Espionage and was replaced by Bert Granet.
An Emmy Award nomination was received for cinematography for this season and a Hugo Award nomination for "Best Dramatic Presentation." | |
