Season 1
CBS had high hopes for the Twilight Zone, but it took awhile for the series to catch on with its audience. By the time the third episode aired, "Mr. Denton on Doomsday," their ratings had dropped to a 16.3, far below the 21-22 share the executives had expected. In November the Zone was given a brief hiatus, but when they came back they had enough audience to not only survive but to pass their competitors in ABC and NBC.

Except for "The Chaser," the season's episodes were all penned by Rod Serling, Charles Beaumont and Richard Matheson, a team which would go on and write 127 of the show's 156 episodes. Rod would only appear on one episode "A World of His Own," except as the host of each episode. Rod Serling would win an Emmy Award for writing and the series won a Hugo Award for best Dramatic Presentation. Serling's creative partner Buck Houghton would win a Producers Guild Award for season 1.
