| Despite what the letter told the modern time wife, she should be glad the letter was delivered one day late. Ponder what would happen if it was delivered in time - the modern man wouldn't have gone to the mine. It would also result in that the meeting of the two miners would not have existed, thus the past miner wouldn't have been saved. Additionally, not being saved would make it impossible to tell his wife about the future, thus the modern miner would have gone to the mine that day.. repeating the old pattern.
It would have created a time paradox where time would "stop" (or infinitively loop itself) as it cannot continue further on. This is the main problem with the idea of time traveling and altering the past. Lucky for everyone though, the letter was delivered one day late and thus the time paradox was avoided. |
