Sanctuary - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Sports agent Scott Turner has a flat tire on the parkway and is waiting for the tow truck to show up. As he waits, he argues with one of his clients on the phone. Finishing the call, he goes off into the bushes to relieve himself. However, when he tries to go back he discovers that his car, and the road, have disappeared. He makes his way through the forest and finally finds a beautifully furnished house. Going inside, he finds a woman, Marisa Sanborn. She identifies herself as a real estate agent and explains that she got out of her car and went into the forest, and lost the parkway as well. They discover that their cell phones and even their watches don’t work. There are no clocks, telephones, or electrical appliances. Marisa says there are no mountains or hills in the area, but directs Scott to a window where they are clearly visible.

After trying to find a way out of the forest without success, they return to the house and Marisa says that she and her fiancé Paul were driving when they had a fight. She got off and walked into the forest, but then couldn’t find the highway. She admits that there's too much stress in his life and Scott concedes that he is in the same situation. They look around the house and discover no inhabitants, but a closet full of clothes in exactly their sizes. There's plenty of food, enough for them to live together in comfort. With no other choice, they settle in.

Time passes and the two enjoy their new peaceful life together, and start to fall in love with each other. Marisa burns her wallet in the fireplace and Scott thinks she's crazy. He wonders what happens if they find a way out and Marisa asks him if that's what he wants. He throws his own belongings into the fire as well.

One day they're interrupted when a woman comes staggering out of the forest and asks for help. She introduces herself as Rikki and says she was in a motorcycle accident. She reveals that her cell phone works. Marisa begins to wonder who she is and warns Scott not to try and call.

As Rikki unsuccessfully tries to leave, Scott and Marisa's perfect world starts to break down. A wasp stings Marisa. Rikki wants to be friends and offers her the use of her phone to call her fiancé. Later, a scorpion crawls up on the dinner table. Later, Rikki approaches Scott and says she needs to leave, and tries to convince Scott to call his client. He refuses. That night, Rikki is listening to sports on the radio in the living room while Scott and Marisa play a board game. A large snake slips in. Scott gets rid of it and Marisa wonders where it came from.

Scott finally decides to call his client. As he makes the call, the sky turns dark as storm clouds roll in. Rikki removes her jacket and reveals a snake tattoo. As Marisa comes to see what happened, Rikki says that they had their chance for a perfect life but they couldn't resist temptation.

A lightning bolt stabs down from the sky and Scott finds himself back on the highway at his car. No time has passed, and he has no memory of what happened. Scott discovers his cell phone is gone and goes up to a car to borrow one. Marisa is in the car but they don't recognize her. She says she lost her cell phone as well and drives away with her fiancé.
