Making Weight - Recap

Several of Chuck’s Light Heavyweight fighters including Sam Hogan and Bobby Kommel are overweight on Day thirteen. Forrest says the hardest part of being a fighter is cutting the weight and is very stressful. Dana says this isn’t a buffet or cruise the fighters need to be in shape. However, Leben doesn’t seem to mind as he ain’t fighting as he eats cakes and steak.

The fighters are not enthusiastic when they learn that they will be fighting for free. Dana comes into the training center and gives them the lowdown of why they are here. He tells the audience that these fighters have a huge opportunity. Dana is agitated and asks them straight out if they want to be a fighter. He tells that being a fighter isn’t about signing autographs or banging broads but it’s a real job. Day fourteen arrives. Willa announces the team challenge will be more of an individual challenge. The Light Heavyweights are up for eliminations. The loser will fight in the octagon. Bobby Southworth does terrible and seems to give up really ticking Chuck Liddell and Dana White. Bobby has to cut weight to now fight to avoid elimination. Liddell and team discuss strategy. They ponder picking a stronger fighter but eventually pick Loduine Sincaid. Josh Koscheck explains that Lodune appears to be the weak link on Team Couture with his night of drinking. Bobby has to lose twenty four pounds in a day. Liddell says cutting weight is about shedding water. Josh says Bobby is mentally weak as he can’t even sit up straight in a sauna.

Meanwhile, Lodune is relaxing talking with Chris Leben. He is anything but worried about the fight. Bobby manages to shed over eighteen pounds but still is eight pounds over. Chuck said earlier Bobby seems to be a complainer. Even Dana White notices it but can’t comprehend it. As Dana says “he is not even trying.” Josh Koscheck is extremely motivational and supportive. He literally drags Bobby into the sauna to make the weight. At the weigh-ins, Bobby is still over so he has two hours to make the weight. With Josh Koscheck’s support, Bobby is able to make the weight. Dana now explains that Bobby has to hydrate water into his system. Bobby believes that Lodune gave Bobby the chance to cut weight after the weigh-ins because he didn’t want to fight him. The two guys now get ready for their fight. Bobby says that Lodune isn’t excited for the fight but Lodune disagrees. Again, Lodune reiterates that he has nowhere else to go. Bobby says Lodune is intimated but Lodune says he’s not. Lodune says the family he grew up with was intimidating. Bobby, however, doesn’t make predictions about the fight..

Dana comes in and reveals a surprise, the fighters will get paid for the fight with the majority of the cash being won to the person who can score a knockout. Bobby and Lodune are almost the same fighting wise. Lodune is three years younger than the thirty-four year old Bobby but Lodune has more MMA wins. Round 1 of this Light Heavyweight elimination fight starts with the two boxing. Boxing is able to land hard knees to Lodune. Bobby then takes Lodune down. Bobby has an angle on Lodune over the top and is able to strike on the side of the head. The two struggle against the cage. Bobby tries to turn around but Lodune pushes him against the cage. The two box for the next minute then once again grapple on the cage. Chuck Liddell in timeout tells Bobby to throw a job and a right. Round 2 starts with Bobby following Chuck’s advice to the letter. Bobby throws a left jab at Lodune which connects. Then Bobby throws a right, left combo ending up with a strong right hand that knocks Bobby senseless. The referee immediately stops the fight. Randy and Liddell give their comments. Randy feels that Lodune controlled Round 1 while Dana White feels that Bobby won. Liddell says that Bobby followed his instructions and did a great job.
