Season Three Finale
The finale for Season Three features two finale fights Ed Herman vs. Kendall Grove in the Middleweight Division and Josh Haynes vs. Michael Bisping in the Light Heavyweight Division. The winners from both fights will be offered a contract in the UFC. Additional fights on the card include Kenny Florian vs. Sam Stout, Keith Jardine vs. Wilson Gouveia, and Matt Hamill vs. Jesse Forbes.
The opening fight had Jardine against Gouveia who was also making his UFC Debut. Round 1 and 2 were equally split with Round 3 being the decisive factor.
Keith Jardine vs. Wilson Gouveia
Round One
Mike Goldberg talks this being Wilson’s UFC debut although Wilson has an MMA record 6-3. No hits are landed by the two fighters until 3:52 Jardine throws a high kick while Wilson tries some close jabs. Wilson throws high kicks of his own and lands some right hands that stagger Jardine. Jardine staggers for most of the round while Wilson is on the offense and seems to win the first round.
Round Two
Jardine comes out aggressive in the second trying to even rounds. He is successful in delivering several kicks of his own.Jardine dominates the second on a spurt. At one point he even lands a kick in the groin area which takes the breath out of Gouveia.
Round Three
Gouveia looks exhausted and Jardine starts throwing kicks and punches. Gouvwia lands a kick right to Jardine which causes him to limp back. At 3:57 the two fight right up to the Octagon corner. At 2:55 Jardine catches Gouveia with hard elbows but Gouveia at 2:38 in the fight knocks Jardine down. He follows up with harder shots that stagger Jardine At 1:05 the referee calls timeout to give both men a breather. In the last minute however Jardine takes over on Gouveia. When the fight is finally over, the scores go in favor of Keith Jardine who wins by decision.
Ed herman 6” 2 vs. Kendall Grove 6 :6 for a UFC six figure contract
Round One
Ed and Grove grapple, Grove tries to land some blows but Ed catches him in arm bar , but Grove manages to escape. At 2:25 the two are on the mat with Ed being offensive minded and taking advantage raining down strikes on Grove. At 1:34 Grove lands a big kick on but Ed counters him by grappling him down on the mat. With fifteen seconds left in Round one Ed is the aggressor and is landing several right hands on Grove who only covers up.
Round Two
Grove takes down Ed. He then tries a triangle choke at 4:10 of the fight but can’t hold on. Ed slams Grove head on the mat. At 1:39 Ed and Grove strike one another. The two exchange blows but neither can. Ed tries his own triangle choke with a minute left. Ed then gets on Groves back and begins wailing away Ed tries an arm bar submission but like Kendall can’t secure the victory.
Round Three
Grove and Ed strike away but this time Grove catches Ed with a flying knee (lime Bisping did in the previous episode). Herman is tough and takes him down. At 4:03 Grove tries yet another submission but Herman weathers the attack. Ed assumes his attack on Grove’s back. He lands several knees. Finally the two fighters stand exhausted. The two grapple, and Edi delivers several right hands to Grove’s jaw. Grove starts to cower away Herman but at 0:44 Grove once again decides to attack the back area of Grove and reapply a choke. The bell sounds to end the round while Grove still has Ed in the rear naked choke. The decision is put into the hands of the judges and they appoint Kendall Grove as the winner. Dana White decides to give UFC contracts to both Ed Herman and Kendall Grove.
Michael BIsping vs. Josh Haynes for UFC Contracts among Lightheavyweights
Round One
An even battle between the two until 3: 27 when Bisping catches Josh with a right hand, and then twenty seconds later a knee to the jaw which drops Haynes down. Haynes instinctively tries to get up but Bisping knees him again which scores as an illegal hit. The two grapple after a long pause and round ends
Round Two
Bisping takes over Haynes. After landing a big right hand that staggers Haynes to the Octagon, BIsping continues the assault until the referee ends the fight.
Matt Hamill vs. Jesse Forbes.
Matt Hamill was the only fighter technically not eliminated since his doctor prevented him from fighting. Forbes was a fighter who lost was brought back and lost again this season.
Round One
A minor slugfest with Hamill gaining the advantage with wrestling and boxing. As Hamill and Forbes feel each other, Hamill brings Forbes close to him and puts in heavy blows to the head. Hamill then takes Forbes to the mat. However as the two grapple neither one does anything and the referee breaks it up with three minutes left. At two minute mark however it’s all Matt Hamill , Forbes never looks to be really in the fight. The two try to strike one another with Hamill getting the better of it. Grabbing Forbes and knocking him with repeated lefts and rights, Forbes goes down. He never tries to get up and only brings his arms up, the referee ends the fight with fourteen seconds left. Matt Hamill has won the fight.
Randy Couture is officially put into the UFC Hall of Fame as he officially retired earlier in the year.
The Main Event Kenny Florian vs. Sam Stout
Florian was a participant in the first season of Ultimate Fighter. He dominates Stout within a mere a minute and applies the choke for the win. Despite the hype for the fight Florian makes quick work out of Sam Stout.
After the fights, the participants and coaches for Ultimate Fighter Four are annouched. The show recaps the fights and show ends.
