The Comeback - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
The new contestants are brought into the household but with a different twist. Since the contestants this time are former UFC fighters, the prize is for $100,000 and a shot at the title. Shonie Carter , one of the Welterweights this season, cuts a promo saying he doesn’t want it to be known as a comeback because he’s been fighting for a long time. Dana White makes a promo saying that he’s really excited about this season. White then makes his official speech to the group. Knowing that these are experienced UFC fighters, his speech is altered. This season teams will be back but Couture and St. Pierre will function more as trainers than coaches.

The teams are then selected by jerseys according to weight class. For the moment the teams are divided into two teams: Team Blue and Team Grey. We see Team Blue do their training session. Rich Clementi (welterweight) says he likes his team. Mikey Burnett talks about his lifestyle and how he hasn’t fought in UFC since 99. Dana then brings in the team for the ceremonial coin toss to see who will fight. The actual names are announced. “Team Mojo (Grey jersey)”, and “Team No Love” (Blue jersey). Team blue/No Love wins the toss and gets to pick who will fight from Team Mojo. Team Mojo once again is show training, Din Thomas and Matt Serra seem very confident their team will win the first fight Shonie Carter actually throws up during the training and puts a little doubt in his teammates that he’s in great shape to fight.

The official fighters are chosen Team No Love picks Rich Clementi to fight Shonie Carter possibly using to pick out the weakest link. Shonie doesn’t think that’s true. Rich Clementi then starts talking about his fighting record which is decent until his UFC record which is a bust at 0.1 going back to UFC 41. Dana White thinks Rich deserved another chance and brought him in. Shonie then begins starting about his history, and how he’s been fighting for twenty two years.. Dana White talks about Shonie and says how Shone has more fighting experience then perhaps anyone else in the house. UFC footage is shown of Shonie had impressive fights up to UFC 31 with a victory against Matt Serra (who is also in the house). Dana complements Shonie as a great fighter who fell of the horse , but as he put it was one of the top welterweight fighters in the world at one time. Matt Serra works closely with Shonie and thinks Shonie will win the fight and prove to everybody that it was a mistake to pick him for the fight.

Rich Clementi thinks he is at the top of his game more than Shonie and thinks he’ll win.

Round 1

Both men are cautious to strike each other , so Clementine decides to grapple and take down Shonie. Shonie breaks his way out of the hold, and both men standing fight for position. Shonie lands a strike on the side of Clementi’s face. The men now strike each other. The two men then exchange strikes and leg kick none really connecting. Rich then grabs Shonie close to throw knees to his stomach, but Shonie brings him down with a hard takedown. Shonie is unable to capitalize though with any hard hits.. The two standup and for the rest of the twenty seconds attempt to strike but look to tired to deliver anything.

Round 2

Rich takes Shone down with a takedown and goes for an arm submission. Carter looks in trouble but breaks out by moving his body around the hold. Shonie is now on top of Rich and the men jockey for position. Rich still tries a submission while Shonie throws strikes in and out. Matt Serra keeps screaming “hammer fist elbow” but Carter rarely throws the elbows instead opting to keep striking Rich in the face and the stomach. With forty one seconds left in the fight, both men stand up and exchange blows and whistle ends.

After two rounds, the winner is announced by unanimous decision, Shonie Carter. While Rich Clementi put up a strong fight, it seemed to Dana White and others that Carter , strike-wise, was ahead on points. Rich Clementi gives credit to Carter who given him a really difficult fight. Matt Serra and Team Mojo celebrate while Rich contemplates his future with UFC.
