Frank Nitti, played by Bruce Gordon (1)
Gangster nicknamed "the Enforcer." Originally Al Capone's hatchet man, he took over as leader of the Mob when Scarface Al was sent to prison for income tax evasion. Utterly ruthless yet endowed with a wry sense of humor. Tough and decisive in his edicts concerning Mob business but often reckless and impulsive as well. Moved to Chicago from Brooklyn as a younger man. A heavy drinker, smoker, and womanizer. We never learn anything on the show about Nitti's personal life although the real life Frank Nitti was married and adopted a son during the years in which the show took place. Eliot Ness's greatest foe throughout the course of the series. Killed off once at the end of the show's first season but brought back due to the character's popularity with viewers. |
