Though The Untouchables is often though of as a show about enforcing the Prohibition laws during that era, this episode is one of only two Season One entries where bootlegging is the subject. The other, which aired late in the season, was Portrait of a Thief.

One wonders if the late, great country singer Johnny Paycheck once watched this episode and took his stage moniker from its lead protagonist.

There's quite a bit wrong with this episode (a lot of pathos, cardboard villains, lack of screen time for the Untouchables) but there's one thing that saves it: a brilliant performance from guest star Cameron Mitchell. It's one of the best of the series and makes Ain't We Got Fun? well worth watching.
