Wally Baltzer, the king of illegal alcohol in Chicago, is worried when the government puts a new chemical denaturant into alcohol thus making it unfit for consumption. One of Baltzer's best chemists, the crippled Russell Shield, discovers the antidote for the government's formula but forces Baltzer to make him a partner in exchange. The greedy Shield then plots to do away with Baltzer and assume his role in the syndicate hierarchy.

| This episode marks the first of three appearances for future Kojak star Telly Savalas. Interestingly enough, all three episodes in which Savalas appeared were Nitti episodes. | Bruce Gordon and Joseph Wiseman had previously appeared together twice on Broadway in the plays Antony and Cleopatra and The Lark. | John Mitchum is the younger brother of famed actor Robert Mitchum. | Locations: Chicago, Washington DC |

| Nitti: (to Baltzer) You know the one about the shoemaker's kids not havin' any shoes? That don't bother me. But my speaks not havin' any whiskey, that bothers me! | Baltzer: You don't understand, Frank.
Nitti: You bet I don't understand and when I don't understand, I get mad. And when I get mad, things happen to people I get mad at. Understand? | Baltzer: (upon receiving the news that his alcohol shipment was intercepted) Ain't the government got anything better to do? | Shield: Run, Max, run! You got two good legs, use 'em! | Shield: You're not the only one who could use killing, Wally. | Frimmell: Science doesn't take orders, Wally. | Baltzer: You can't fill up an empty shot glass with talk. | Shield: A watched pot, Mr. Frimmell, never boils. | Villon: Necessity might be the mother of mechanical invention but she's not even remotely related to chemicals. | Rico: That's a pretty big can of peas.
Ness: Let's try to make it smaller. |

| Another classic episode with a memorable lead villain played by future Dr. No Joseph Wiseman. With Dr. No, Frank Nitti, and Kojak all in the same episode how could it be anything but good? |
