Ganglord Danny Mundt, whose operation is being hit hard by Eliot Ness, imports hired killer Elroy Dahlgren to bump off the ace Federal officer. Dahlgren doesn't kill Ness but manages to blind him with an exploding hand grenade. This is satisfactory for Mundt but not the psychotic Dahlgren. He wants to finish the job.

Episode Notes

The psychotic Vietnam vet was a staple of almost every cop show in the 70's and 80's. In A Taste for Pineapple we have The Untouchables beating everyone to the punch with an episode featuring a psychotic World War I vet.

This episode was filmed during the middle of Season Four but got shelved and didn't air until the season (and series) finale.

Location: Chicago

Episode Quotes

Dahlgren: Little things make you feel real good.

Dahlgren: (to Mundt) For ten grand, I'll go after Al Smith.

Mundt: (to Dahlgren) Eliot Ness is not just another job!

Analysis

This is one of the few episodes in which we get to see a vulnerable Eliot Ness when he's psychosomatically blinded by an exploding grenade. Reportedly, the studio executives hated this episode, which was filmed halfway through Season Four, and shelved it until the season finale (which turned out to be the series finale as well).
