The Night of the Comet - Recap

There are teens that are in a tent in the woods. They are having fun making out and then tragedy hits. They are both murdered by something. When the show actually begins it shows Stefan and Elena writing in their journals. They have a bit of a shared moment when they have nice voice overs about how they feel. They both feel like this is a new part of their lives. Elena goes downstairs and talks to her energetic, happy Aunt Jenna who has taken the job on to take care of Elena and Jeremy. Jeremy woke up early too so that he could go visit his crush Vicki who is in the hospital after being attacked in the woods.

Everyone (except for the injured and Jeremy) heads to school and Elena is in history class with Stefan. They give each other all the googly eyes you could ever imagine. The teacher, Mr. Tanner, talks about the fact that there is going to be a comet that hasn't been around for almost 150 years. There is also going to be a town celebration when the comet shows itself to the town...or at least the eager watchers.

Stefan and Elena are walking through the halls and are talking to one another about the book Wuthering Heights. He tells her that back when this book was written the author wrote under a psuedonym due to the fact that women were not taken seriously as writers at the time. He speaks from personal experience, but Elena doesn't know that. Bonnie is walking through the halls too with Caroline. Bonnie is talking about how her family is full of witches. Caroline couldn't be less interested. Bonnie thinks that her grandmother is crazy due to the fact that she thinks she is psychic. She has even claimed to be a descendant of the Salem witches.

Caroline gets bored, of course. She wants to talk about the guy that she met last week that is Stefan's brother Damon. She talks about how absolutely trashed she was when she got the chance to meet this new hottie. Elsewhere, Jeremy is angry that Tyler hasn't been going to see Vicki so he decides to confront him on it. They get into a pretty serious verbal assault war and then it ends with Jeremy telling Tyler that if he hurts her again--he will kill him.

Elena decides to talk to Matt and see how he is doing. Matt is her ex who is still hung up on her as they were together for years. Stefan can hear their whole entire conversation thanks to his superb hearing. Matt tells her that there was a couple that was attacked and that his sister claims that she was attacked by a vampire. He says that Vicky was pretty wasted when this happened so she probably has no real clue about what went down really.

Jenna has been called in to talk to Mr. Tanner because Jeremy is failing by not really even showing up. He is absolutely cruel to Jenna and tells her that she's obviously not cut out to be a mother to these two kids. She tries to explain to the teacher that Jeremy's parents just died and it is hard to adjust to that kind of loss. Tanner has no real compassion for that as he feels that 4 months is enough time for them to get it together.

Stefan has decided to go talk to Vicki and get her to forget about the fact that she was attacked by a vampire. Matt had to deal with his sister missing before this happened and then when he found her she started freaking out, so when he left to go get help and she was fine like nothing happened when he got back it was a very strange situation. So now she is convinced that she was attacked by an animal instead of an actual vampire.

Elena, Bonnie, and Caroline decide to get together to have some female bonding. They are talking about all kinds of things but the most important thing that they cover is the fact that the comet only comes when something really horrible is about to happen in Mystic Falls. After that, Caroline changes the topic to basically the only thing she knows about and that's getting down and dirty. She asks Elena about her night with Stefan and wanted to know if they hooked up. Elena tells her that they didn't "hook up" they just spent a lot of time talking to one another.

Jenna is at home and a bit angry. She is tired of the fact that Jeremy has been smoking weed and skipping school so she calls him out but in the wrong way. She explains to him that she too has smoked the "sweet mary jane" and just kind of beat around the bush so that he would break down and tell her that he doesn't just smoke the weed, he also sells it. That really just didn't work out. He just walks away as usual.

At the hospital, Vicki seems really happy and doesn't remember having had a total meltdown. She also tells her brother that she was actually attacked by an animal. Jeremy goes to visit her and they talk but it doesn't end well. She wants to keep what went on between them a secret. She doesn't want to be thought of as weird since he's a year younger than her and most people hate him anyway. He tells her that he is the one that saved her life, she is flattered by this.

Elena goes to see Stefan and she runs into Damon instead. He shows her the house and manipulates her completely. He tells her about Katherine which is never good and makes it sound like it was much more recent than it really was. This was hundreds of years ago, let it go. Stefan shows up and he is angry and suspicious. He is also quite cold towards Elena making her run off and be insecure.

When it came to the town get together, Stefan tries to get close to Elena but she completely misunderstands and ends up shooting herself in the foot by thinking that he didn't want to be with her. Damon is elsewhere messing with Vicki who has just gotten out of the hospital and has been suffering from nightmares about him. Damon spends his evening messing with her and even dangling her off of a roof and tricking her into thinking that Stefan really munched her up...then he took it all back afterwards.

After all is said and done, Stefan goes to find Elena but she's no longer there. Bonnie decides to give him her number so that he can talk to his new found flame. Most importantly, she had a flash when she touched his hand and she doesn't know what exactly that was about but she doesn't feel too good about it, either.
