Elena asks Stefan to go with her to the annual Founder's Park. Vicki gets Tyler to ask her, but then accuses him of hiding their relationship from his family. Meanwhile, Zach reveals a family secret to Stefan, Damon tells Elena about the Salvatore family past; and Stefan tries to get Damon out of his life for good.
This episode opens with Elena waking up suddenly. She calls out but no one is there. She finds just the TV on. The news is reporting her death. Damon appears and bites her neck. Stefan wakes up from his nightmare. Damon, who is sitting at the foot of the bed, makes a snide comment. He says it was easy to get into Stefan's head. Stefan flings a knife at him. It lodges in Damon's chest. Damon informs him that a mountain lion has been caught and blamed for all the animal attacks. He returns the knife to Stefan by stabbing him in return. Damon: What's so special about this Bella girl? Edward's so wipped.
Caroline: You have to read the first book first, otherwise it won't make sense.

Mayor Lockwood: Are you sure?
Sheriff Forbes: Five bodies, all drained of blood. I'm certain.
