The Return - Recap

"Elena" meets up with her uncle in the kitchen and they are having a conversation. The real Elena is coming to her house and is about to enter. She wants to check on Jeremy before she goes to the hospital. It seems that Katherine has chopped John's fingers off and stabbed him to get his ring. Elena has walked in on him to find him on the kitchen floor while Katherine is behind her. He warns her that someone is behind her but by the time she turns around to look she finds that she sees no one. Katherine ditches the place as soon as she can.

Elena realizes that Jeremy could have gotten hurt and then goes up to check on him. He comes back from his overdose. Stefan comes and checks on him and he isn't a vampire like he had planned. Elena has to go to the hospital and leaves Stefan with Jeremy so that he doesn't hurt himself. This is after Stefan gets really angry and actually slaps him for trying to kill himself or become a vampire because either way that was what would have happened.

Elena goes to the hospital and Bonnie meets up with Matt. She asks him what happened and he says that he heard some noise and he ended up crashing because he lost control of the car. He says that Caroline isn't fine. Damon meets up with the sheriff and says he came as soon as he heard. She tells Damon that Mayor Lockwood was killed because they thought that he was a vampire but she thinks it is impossible because she has known him her whole life. He shows compassion and worry.

After that he walks by and sees Bonnie telling Elena about what is going on with Caroline. She asks if Bonnie can do a spell and Damon says that she doesn't know how. She confirms that she doesn't know how. He says he will give Caroline some blood and Elena doesn't like this idea but Bonnie says he should do it. He wants to call a truce if he does it and she says no, but he'll do it anyway for Elena. He also wants to try to talk to her about what happened on the porch as he thought he was hooking up with Elena but it was really Katherine. He doesn't know that yet, though.

Elena's aunt shows up and she asks where she has been and she says she was at the fire department. She said she told her earlier and then Damon realizes that Katherine is out and about wreaking havoc. Stefan is at Elena's still and he thinks she's walked in. Soon he realizes that it is actually Katherine and she was like "at least I fooled one of you". They begin to fight and Elena and Damon come in. She asks Stefan what happened and Damon says that Katherine happened.

Damon and Stefan talk and Damon asks him if she said what she wanted. She didn't and he tells him that Katherine also duped him. Stefan asks what happened and he says they kissed. He gets really mad about that. She says that he kissed Katherine and she never would. Also, she says they need to concentrate on what i really going on. Damon thinks he should ignore Katherine so that she'll go nuts and go after him. They ask him what he'll do and he says that he'll stake her or rip her head off "something poetic like that".

Bonnie goes to see how Caroline is doing and Matt shows her and she is doing fantastic. She seems to be healing very quickly. Damon is elsewhere trying to keep the sheriff and the mayor's widow from ripping each other's heads off. Tyler's uncle shows up for the funeral and it seems that he hasn't seen him since he was ten. John is in the hospital and Elena goes to talk to him. He is scared but she says that she is Elena. She wants to know why she is there.

Stefan says that they can't help if he doesn't tell them what is up. He doesn't trust Stefan. He doesn't like that he is with his daughter. Which is weird, since really she thought he was her uncle for her entire life. She walks out after snapping on him and Stefan takes it to street justice by saying if he doesn't give him information or leave he will make sure that he is the undead since he is so disgusted by vampires.

Damon is at the gathering talking to the sheriff asking about Tyler's uncle. Katherine shows up and is invited into the house. Tyler thinks that it is Elena. Elena and Stefan are getting ready to get her family to go to the Lockwood's for the get together. Elena tells him that she doesn't want him to fight Damon.

Bonnie threatens Damon and shows that she could take him down. Bonnie runs up to to Katherine and thinks it's Elena but realizes that she is not her. She excuses herself and runs off to call Elena and she realizes that that is Katherine. Katherine is right behind her when she gets off the phone. They end up about to fight and she is about to get her butt kicked but Stefan steps in and stops it. She listens. He tells her she needs to leave, but she doesn't want to. She's also trying to avoid Damon.

He asks what game she is playing and she asks why and if he wants to play with her. He goes to talk to her but he doesn't want to get close. Elena goes up to talk to Damon and she really wants to know how you're doing. He is upset that he got tricked into kissing Katherine. He asks why she was surprised that he kissed her and she says that she wasn't surprised about that--she was surprised that he thought she would kiss him back. He is hurt by this.

Bonnie runs up and she looks shook up. They ask what happened. Jeremy is looking for the bathroom and he tells Tyler he is sorry about his dad. He says he found his flask in his desk and they go to drink. That is when Tyler's uncle comes in and takes the flask and sits down to talk to him. He drinks out of the flask and hands it back to Tyler.

Stefan and Katherine are talking about all kinds of things and she is flirting with him. She says she is bothered that he is falling in love with someone else. He tells her off and says that she is the same lying, selfish, manipulative bitch that she always was. He wants her to get what she wants and leave town or he will hunt her down and he will rip her heart out. She looks hurt by this and tells him that she came back for him. He says the problem is that he hates her. She stabs him with something and says "You hate me, huh? That sounds like the beginning of a love story, Stefan, not the end of one".

Elena takes care of him and he will heal. She asks if he will be okay. He says he was trying to figure her out, but he let her get to him. Damon comes up and couldn't find Katherine. Elena goes to check on her brother and aunt. Damon wonders if it will be a fight between him and Stefan. Stefan says that they aren't going to fight because Katherine is going to try to pit them against one another. Damon with all the snark in the world says "brother, don't you know that our bond is unbreakable?"

He says they need to stay united against her. He doesn't want to fight him. He reminds him that he kissed Elena. Stefan says "because you feel something for her, because you actually care". He doesn't want Katherine to come in and destroy that part of him that has finally after all this time willing to feel something. He says she will try to break them and how they respond to that will define them.

Back at the Gilbert homestead, John is packing to leave. He decides to tell Jeremy that he is leaving. He asks that he tell Elena goodbye. He tries to explain that he was raised to hate vampires. Then Jeremy asks why his dad is dead if he wore the ring that John now wears to protect himself. He says there is nothing that can save from a natural accident.

Tyler is home alone and wasted. Dealing with some serious conflicted mourning. He is smashing pictures and he says he hates him. His uncle tries to calm him down. At Damon's, Katherine is there. She says she came there to say goodbye. He asks why she is leaving so soon. She says she knows when she is not wanted. He says that she shouldn't pout it isn't attractive on a woman her age. He asks why she is there and she says nostalgia, curiosity, etc. He thinks that she is up to something. She also says "kiss me or kill me". She wants to get him into bed and see actually succeeds at luring him.

He says "wait, brief pause". He asks her for the truth if she loved him. She says the truth is she never loved him and that it was always Stefan. She walks out and his heart is shattered. Damon shows up at Elena's and he seems wasted. He is wasted and upset. He snaps on her about the fact that she is lying about her feelings. She rejects him and he's upset so he snaps on Jeremy and snaps Jeremy's neck but he is wearing the ring that was his dad's.

Stefan shows up and says he saw the ring and that is why he did it. She tells him that there is nothing good about him as he doesn't want to feel, he wants to be hated, and he got his wish. She hates him now. Jeremy comes back really confused cause Damon killed him. Caroline wakes up to a woman Katherine who she thought was Elena and she says she was hoping to give the Salvatore brothers a message for her and then kills her.
