The scene opens with Klaus and Damon Salvatore in a fierce altercation. Klaus hopes Damon will see what he is trying to say, but it grows into a fight that is hard to stop. It gets worse, and as Damon holds up a knife to defend himself, he won’t see anything but grudge. However, Klaus incites him no to make him do it. Finally, Klaus tells him that he needs help to destroy Stefan, they can be family again. Elena and her partner are at home, when he feels sorry about getting drunk and the hangover. Before long, the Sheriff is at the door. Their medical examiner was killed, and although the sheriff is not being attacked, she insists that the murder weapon only raises questions on Elena.

When Elena calls up Damon, he points the finger at Rick, which fuses up Rick because they are on speaker phone. Didn’t Rick have his stash of secret weapons? However, it doesn’t take long for Damon to see the possibility that Klaus could be the one messing with all of them. When Rick asks where he is, he hangs up saying ‘tea with a friend’. Then he meets Elija – back from the dead. Elija shows him the note he had left in his jacket pocket. It says about catching up, but the question Damon has for him is – does he know any Klaus killing weapons? Meanwhile, Bonnie, her mother and Stefan are in the cave. Stefan is going further, because vampires cannot get inside caves of other vampires. However, Bonnie and her mom need help with the coffin. Her mom doesn’t have any powers left, but Stefan is not believing that. The time is ticking, and Klaus could destroy them soon – so she better scrape out whatever magic she has left.
When Stefan steps out of the cave door, Elena is waiting for him. She wants to know if he killed the medical examiner. Livid, Stefan replies what makes her think he did. She doesn’t know what he is capable of anymore – but she had to ask anyway, isn’t it, lays back Stefan. Why doesn’t she ask Damon if he killed anyone lately. Caroline approaches her dad’s doctor,Fell, and learns he has been fussy. She is not in the best of moods when Caroline brings up her dad, but she did sign the discharge papers late last night. And he is not there any longer probably. Caroline also learns the doctor does keep up with the facts about vampires in the city. Caroline meets Elena, and as they walk through the hospital corridors, Caroline recognizes her dad’s cell phone ringing. She gets closer to the sound, and after going through a door, she finds her dad stabbed in the torso and sitting in a pool of blood. Freaked out, Caroline manages to pull the dagger out, after which his dad wakes up.
Meanwhile, Bonnie and her mother are discussing the ways to get their job done. They discover from a relic book that the sketch of a dual binding on the page means that the connection is restored as a link. It is an unavoidable link that they have to unbind. That will be the way out. Meanwhile, Damon and Stefan are getting ready to leave for making a fake truce with Klaus. They are being far from jolly, and Damon doesn’t want Stefan’s attitude to be screwing things up. Meanwhile at the hospital, Caroline’s dad thinks he is okay, and announces that he is not taking up any advantages of a vampire. Elena tries to explain if he doesn’t make the transition completely, especially after losing all the blood, he will die. Caroline’s dad knows how it works. And he is prepared for it.
At Elena’s place Rick starts unearthing weapons, so that he can understand what might have happened. When she hands him the knife from the hospital, Rick is quick to realize the resemblance. However, that does not mean Meredith stole them. Meanwhile, the Salvatore brothers reach Klaus’s home. Inside is Elija as well. Klaus wants them to join for discussions, but Damon lets on he didn’t come to eat. Stefan didn’t want to come at all, but he came for Damon. Klaus would rather have them join him for dinner, or he can eat them up through their throats. The option is theirs. Before long, Stefan and Damon sit at the table.

Meanwhile, Caroline and Elena are talking at the porch. Caroline is upset about his father choosing death over being a vampire, but Elena explains to her that he has chosen something. That is a choice vampires do not have. At Klaus’ place, the vampires feast on wine and food, when they get talking about how each of them came to become vampires. However, they agree to keep Elena out of discussions. Back at the cave, Bonnie’s mother cannot concentrate, because she thinks the spirits are angry with her. Besides, she cannot even begin to say how sorry she feels for what she did to Bonnie. However, Bonnie needs her to help now. They have to get their prayers working. And before long, there are signs of success. However, Bonnie leaves for a little while because she must tell Stefan they are getting closer. Alone in the cave, Bonnie’s mother hears something happening inside the casket. She approaches it slowly, and ends up shrieking.
Klaus lets on that his bloodline only makes him find more and more adversaries. That means he will have to find them (hybrids) and keep fighting them. Damon could do with some air outside, and steps away from the discussions. That is when Klaus gets up, and calls one of his maids for her blood. He bites her in the neck, and lets her fall to the ground. Stefan looks on. Meanwhile, Elena arrives home to find Rick stabbed. She cannot pull out the dagger to save him, because he has already bled too much. Her friend calls 911, but nothing is working out. At Klaus’ place he reveals the grounds on which he can agree for peace. Damon and Stefan will have to let Juliet go, and let her be human. She could marry the blonde footballer, and live a prosperous life, popping up a family. Klaus hopes that is deal, and Stefan steps forward to shake hands. However, Stefan does not agree – no deal! A fight ensues, which is when the room is up in complete shambles, and Klaus is holding Stefan’s hand into the lit fireplace.
Meanwhile, Caroline and her dad share an emotional moment. He has chosen to die, and will not get back to being a vampire. He is sorry for what he caused to Caroline. She cannot believe he hates her for the way she is. However, he does not. He loves her. She has grown up to be everything her parents hoped. However, this is what life is. One has to die, and parents cannot outlive their children. Caroline’s mom looks on with tears in her eyes. Meanwhile as the fight continues at Klaus’ dining hall, there is surprise. Damon arrives with Elija, and show him the daggers that will kill him. Before long, two girls arrive. One stabs Klaus in his hand, and the other in his stomach. Elija announces that Damon and Stefan are free to go. This is family business.

Back at Elena’s place, she sits by Rick, whom she has manages to bring back to life with a dagger blow using a normal knife. She announces Caroline’s dad has passed away, and sheds a few tears with her friend. And slowly but surely, Rick comes back to life. Damon and Stefan part ways when they are on their way back. And at Klaus’ place, his entire family has turned against him. The episode ends.
