The Diving Bell vs. The Butter-Glider - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Rusty wakes up and manages to blink as Dean confirms that he's alive. Sgt. Hatred is driving away in a jeep and Hank is firing on the Cocoon as Henchman 21 continues the pursuit. They knock the Moppets off the road and get to the hospital, and Hatred runs Dr. Venture into inside. Henchman 21 tells the Moppets to retreat because the Ventures have taken refuge on hallowed ground: a Catholic hospital.

The Monarch and Dr. Mrs. the Monarch attend the get-out-of-jail party for King Gorilla, who is in bad shape. The henchmen return and Dr. Mrs. the Monarch goes to debrief them after Henchman 21's first mission, but the Monarch chooses to stay behind.

Sgt. Hatred brings the Ventures back to the compound and explains to Dean that Rusty didn't have any insurance. He tells Dean to buck up and be the super-scientist his father wants him to be, and then has Hang turn on the spotlight to summon Peter White and Billy Quizboy. They drive the $10 million Conjecu-cycle to the compound and separate and relink for no particular reason.

Dr. Mrs. the Monarch hears out Henchman 21 and the other henchmen, who complain that Sgt. Hatred is using guns, unlike Brock who deplored guns. They have to buy their own armor, and the retractable wings just make them targets. Henchman 21 gives a presentation of his new Mark V hench-suit. Dr. Mrs. the Monarch warns that they don't have the money. Unfortunately, the Monarch chooses that moment to fly in on his new multi-million dollar butter-glider. The disgruntled henchmen leave, and the Monarch tells his wife they have to be more ruthless.

Billy and Pete examine Rusty, and Sgt. Hatred explains that the MRI blew out when something metal in Rusty's body set it off. They try differential diagnostic but come up with nothing conclusive. Billy realizes they need to see inside Rusty's brain and asks if they have a submarine he can miniaturize

The Monarch goes flying with his new butter-glider and sings a love song.

The group discovers that the X-3 in the submarine bay has disappeared. However, they're startled when a diving bell comes up and pirates emerge. They're prisoners of Brock and Shoreleave, dressed in SPHINX uniforms. Brock takes them to see Hunter Gathers and ask if they can borrow his nuclear submarine. He refuses until Brock points out that they can't keep brainwashing them because it's starting to make them buggy. Hunter Gathers agrees but Sgt. Hatred insists on leading the mission. Brock disagrees and reminds him that he has to guard Rusty's body and protect them all. Billy and Pete shrink them down and inject them into Rusty's neck.

Inside Rusty's body, Hank and Brock can't resist making Operation jokes, and even Shoreleave joins in. Billy directs them to Rusty's brain while making bets with Pete over what is responsible. They find an embolism and prepare to remove it.

Dr. Mrs. the Monarch comes to bed and finds the Monarch sleeping with his butter-glider. He accuses her of jealousy but she realizes that he's obsessed and leaves.

Brock and the boys remove the embolism but find a metal surface underneath. They're shocked to discover that it's a Venture diving bell with the skeletons of Hank and Dean.

Dr. Mrs. the Monarch goes to the henchman bar and Henchman 21 sends her a drink. He's surprised to learn that the ghostly Henchman 24 sent her a drink, even though he's a ghost. Henchman 24 tells 21 to talk to her and they need each other. Dr. Mrs. the Monarch comes over and offers to buy him a drink, and Henchman 24 thinks that she's flirting with his friend. However, she wants Henchman 21 to get Rusty to get the Monarch back on his original obsession with his arch-nemesis. In return she'll get him the hench-suits. When Henchman 21 warns that the henchmen are considering a strike, she says that they should.

Sgt. Hatred detects intruders on the ground and goes to investigate.

Brock refuses to explain about the clones and pilots the diving bell to the tear duct, following Shoreleave.

Sgt. Hatred goes outside and finds Henchman 21 and the other henchmen waiting for him. When Hatred points out that they have a medical emergency and Guild rules don't allow an attack, Henchman 21 explains that they're on strike and don't have to obey the Guild rules. Sgt. Hatred runs inside and seals the shutters, but not before he's hit by dozens of darts. H.E.L.P.eR. closes in to attack the henchmen. Hatred gets to the med lab and injects himself with drugs to overcome the speedball effect of the tranqs.

Dr. Mrs. the Monarch calls the Monarch, interrupting him in the middle of a picnic with the butter-glider. When he realizes that Henchman 21 is after Rusty, the Monarch flies off to take matters into his own hands.

Henchman 21 forces H.E.L.P.eR. to open the shutters. Sgt. Hatred tries to pick up Dr. Venture, shaking up Brock and the others inside. Meanwhile, the Monarch arrives and tells his men to put their masks back on, and then flies in to confront Sgt. Hatred. He recognizes Pete from his college radio show, and then darts him and Billy unconscious.

The diving bell slams into Rusty's brain, sending out a nerve impulse that causes Rusty to punch the Monarch. The Monarch pulls him outside using his butter-glider and lifts him high into the air. Sgt. Hatred revives and uses Billy's size-changing gun to enlarge Rusty. The extra weight drags the butter-glider down, and the sub falls out of Rusty's tear duct and lands on the Monarch.

Later, Brock isn't sure where they are. Billy finally realizes that they're at Rusty's prostate. He gets out the rubber gloves, lotion, and dirty magazine.
