Episode Notes

During the credits, animation director Kimson Albert had a nickname added to his credit, which was a gag from the episode:"Spinning Murder Top". It reads, Kimson "Spinning Murder Top" Albert.

The episode had credited a "Special Thanks" to Vishal Roney & Jennifer Stephens.

There is no opening title sequence, just a commercial for "Dr. Rusty Venture's Day Camp for Boy Adventurers", and a small interlace scene where we see blood (or red paint) spattering on the background of the show's logo.

Billy Quizboy's age is revealed. He says he's 35 years old.

Although Pete White had a brief audible appearance in the episode, his name was not credited in Chris McCulloch's voice credits in the episode.

Episode Quotes

Dr. Venture: Wowzie, some people just shouldn’t breed. Those are some ugly kids.
Brock: Kids? You’re kidding, right? They’re achondroplastic dwarves.
Dr. Venture: And they’re almost as good as you and I and they deserve this camp as much as any other kid here. Such a racist.
Brock: They’re not really a race.
Dr. Venture: Will you listen to yourself, Hitler?

Dr. Mrs. The Monarch: I’m more worried that this makes my ass look chunky.
The Monarch: Come here, set on your king’s ever-expanding throne.
Dr. Mrs. The Monarch: What is that?
The Monarch: No doubt a recruitment facility cleverly disguised as like, the gayest day camp ever.

Dr. Venture: Hank! Stop calling me “pop”! If these kids find out that their hero had sex, their heads will explode.

Dr. Venture: This isn't all about you, Hank. These Kids want to see Rusty Venture. Maybe when there's a cartoon called the Venture Brothers it'll be different.

The Monarch: Now how do you do a screen capture. It’s like Shift, Option… oh crap! I made a umlaut.

Dr. Orpheus: So anyone who does not immediately give you respect, you murder?
Brock: No, no. well… I mean, I don’t always kill them or anything. Just like a bruise or two as a little reminder.

Billy Quizboy: Don’t move, they can smell fear!
Dr. Venture: Can they smell urine?
Billy Quizboy: It’s like liquid fear.

The Monarch: I can’t even watch. This is worse than seeing you with another man!
Dr. Mrs. The Monarch: Hey, that was not my idea.
The Monarch: I thought it would turn me on. But it was just double the embarrassment.

Episode Goofs

Background artwork goof.

Possible background art mistake. In the scene where Dr. Venture talks the group of children outside his house's "Bio-Dom" named E-Den. The sign that's says "E-Den" is shown to be backwards in one shot. This shot is actually at a perspective that the sign is facing the Dome and not the outside. (Picture)

Continuity Error.

Before the photo session, Brock is wearing his Mummy-Yeti costume as he brutally beats up one of Sgt. Hatred's henchmen. During the photo clip montage scene, Brock is seen alongside Dermott giving thumbs up in one photo. Brock was wearing his normal black shirt and blue jeans clothes for this clip scene. Later, after the photo clip scene, we see Brock talking to Dr. Venture, wearing his Mummy-Yeti costume again.

Possible explanation for this is that they did their play after the photo-op and Brock changed back to his Mummy-Yeti costume.

Cultural References

Billy Quizzboy: Hey, all celebrities have large heads. You ever seen Christina Ricci in real life?

Christina Ricci is a well known American award winning actress.

Pirate Capetian: Look at me! I look like Johnny Depp.

Johnny Depp is an Emmy award winning actor none for his dark roles in "Tim Burton" movies.
Pirate Captain was referring to Depp's pirate role in the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy.

Also note that both both Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci had appeared in at least one together, which was Sleepy Hollow.

Pirate Captain: Oh and that's not all. You sometimes get to hang out with people who use to be famous once. Like Cher and the guy who did the voice for Inspector Gadget.

Cher is an American singer actress and variety show host most popular for her role in the 1960's variety show Sonny & Cher.

Inspector Gadget was an animated show about a cybernetic android with several "gadgets" installed in his body. Though he was considered more human he machine. His English voice actor was Don Adams. Don Adams is mostly known for playing Maxwell Smart in the hit 1960's TV sit comedy Get Smart.

Both Cher and Don Adams have made guest appearances on The New Scooby Doo Movies. Pirate Captain's character is partly a parody of a Scooby Doo masked villain.

Jonny Quest and Dr. Z

Jonny Quest makes his third appearance n the show. Jonny Quest is a popular Hanna-Barbera character from the cartoon series Jonny Quest.

Dr. Zin (Dr. Z as appeared on this episode) is a clear parody or tribute to the only recurring villain on the old Jonny Quest cartoons.

The Monarch's Laptop

The Monarch's laptop model is apparently a modified version of the old Apple Macbook pros.

Dr. Venture: I know you should read his witter. He requested twenty bars of Lever 2000, one bottle of Cristal, one bottle of Dom Perignon, and two cases of Tropicana Twisters.
Brock: Right. Right. Who was that? Van Hallen?
Dr. Venture: No, that was Sean Puffy Combs Daddy.

Lever 2000 is a brand of soap owned by the Unilever corporation.

Cristal is the well-known and expensive brand name of a champagne produced by Louis Roederer.

Dom Perignon is the brand of Champagne named after the discover of sparkling wines.

Tropicana Twisters is the brand name of Tropicana's carbonated fruity soft drinks.

Van Halen is an American hard rock band that was formed in Pasadena, California in 1972. they had their major success in the late 1970's til the late 1980's.

Sean John Combs aka "Puff Daddy", "Diddy", "P. Diddy", and "Puffy" is an American rapper, record producer, actor, clothing designer and entrepreneur. He is best-known for his 1997 hit I'll Be Missing You.

Though Dr. Venture was correct on most of Sean John Combs's lists of backstage demands, he got some of the details wrong. He also got his stage name confused.

Dr. Venture: I left Neverland so I can marry Wendy. What do you think happened?

Dr. Venture was referencing sarcastically that he was Peter Pan.

Peter Pan is the main character of a series of children's books and stories. The character was created by J. M. Barrie and first introduced in the novel "The Little White Bird".

Neverland is the fictional island and dream world where Peter lives.
Wendy is the heroin of the story. Peter takes her to Neverland.

Johnny Quest's red awareness bracelet.

Johnny was shown wearing a red awareness bracelet. The red awareness bracelet usually means someone supports AIDS Awareness. But on other cases, such as in the "Red ribbon week" the red awareness bracelet is used for Substance Abuse awareness.

Johnny is battling an addiction to heroin.

The E-Den

E-den is play on words for the Garden of Eden.
The Garden of Eden is described in the Bible as being the place where God let the first man and woman live after they were created.

Dr. Venture: Brock, go cool Johnny off. Get him a Zima or something?

Zima is an alcoholic drink that is lightly-carbonated and is made by the Coors Brewing Company.

Dr. Venture: He's been dry for a month, but he's been downing Zanex like if they were Cheetos.

Zanex is an anti-anxiety drug.
Cheetos is a crunchy and cheese flavored snack food made by Frito Lays.

Triana: Dude, do you have any idea what a dork you are? I mean any? You think you' are all hardcore, but you are so Dave Matthews!

Dave Matthews and his band "Dave Matthews Band" are an American based rock band, originally formed in Charlottesville, Virginia. Matthews and his band are hated by the rock community for many reasons ranging from poor lyrics to poor songs.

Dermott: You're lucky you look like Suicide Girl, because if you...

Suicide Girls (or SuicideGirls.com) is a website that feature young female goth, punk and indie-styled pin-up models.

Sgt. Hatred: We got to get on the same page here. I'm just pulling a Moses on some shrubs. It's rock bottom henching.

Moses, prophet and religious leader to Judaism, Christianity and Islam, had witnessed a speaking burning bush that revealed to him was intact God.

Sgt. Hatred: I was thinking little soup. See if Au Bon Pain is OK.

Au Bon Pain (french for "At the Good Bread") is an American bakery/cafe chain founded in Boston, Massachusetts by Louis Rapuano and Louis Kane in 1978.

Pirate Captain's picture pose.

On the picture scene where Pirate Captain was shown taking a picture with a few of Sgt. Hatred's henchmen, we see Pirate Captain posing himself as Captain Morgan.

Captain Morgan is the corporate mascot of the popular rum brand, "Captain Morgan"
Captain Morgan was also the name of a famous captain, named "Henry Morgan".

The rum's advertisements usually involves people lifting up their feet slightly up, making a pose similar to the one seen on the bottle's logo. Which is of Captain Morgan putting one of his feet on a barrel of rum.

The E-Den Bio Facility.

The E-Den Bio Facility is a parody of many different things:

  • Biosphere 2: is a 3.14-acre structure originally built to be an artificial closed ecological system in Oracle, Arizona (USA) by Space Biosphere Ventures. Biosphere 2 was constructed between 1987 and 1991, and was used to explore the complex web of interactions within life systems. Biosphere 2 also researched the possible use of closed biospheres for colonizing space, and also allowed the study and manipulation of a biosphere without harming Earth's. Space Biosphere Ventures' main officers were John Polk Allen and Margret Augustine.

    * Like in the episode, this Biosphere facility researches possible space training use.
Also, a small snippet about the organization's name could also be a reference.

  • Eden Project: is a large scale environmental complex located in St Austell, Cornwall, UK.
It's main purpose is to house and maintain various plant species in an environmental setting to their custom from around the world, by using several "biomes" (giant domed greenhouses) to house them.

*The name itself, Eden, is parodied in the show.

  • Bio-Dome (Film): is an American movie that premiered in 1996 starring Pauly Shore and Stephen Baldwin and was directed by Jason Bloom. The main story is about two men, played by Shore and Baldwin, and their experience inside a "bio-dome", The film is based partially upon true events and a scientific project that began operation in 1991 in the Arizona desert.

*Possible reference to the main mission in the movie where the main goal of the experiment was to make astronauts accustomed to living in a dome where they maintain a biosphere in an alien world

Screams made by Sgt. Hatred's soldier as he get's beaten up by Brock.

The scream Sgt. Hatred's soldier made was actually a pre-recorded reused production stock sound effect named the Wilhelm Scream.

Wilhelm Scream was first used in the1951 film Distant Drums, and notably used in Star Wars: A New Hope and a big list of other films, video games, and television shows. The most likely actor who recorded this is Sheb Wooley.

Dermott: You guys look like a couple of Bonobo chimps.

The Bonobo, also known as the "free loving" chimps, are best known for the their extreme sexual behavior.

Brock: That ones called the O Goshi.

O Goshi, aka "Large Hip Throw" is a Judo move that consists on knocking down ones opponent after lifting said opponent. (As demonstrated by Brock)
