The Knockouts, Part 1 - Recap

The Knockout Rounds begin and this is a new thing on the show. The remaining contestants are going to have to go head to head with an individual song against another singer. The artist is going to choose their own song in the rounds. Tonight Team Adam and Team CeeLo are going to compete. With only 20 spots available, the singers are going to have to show

Adam pairs Joselyn Rivera and Kayla Nevarez together. Joselyn is singing “Love On Top” by Beyonce. Adam says that the first lower notes were pitchy and not to push too hard. Kayla is singing “Shark In The Water” by V.V Brown. Adam says that she could change it up melodically and says that it could go a long way. Afterward, Blake says that Joselyn took more risks. Christina says that Joselyn did a hard song and says that she was hitting it. CeeLo says that Joselyn was amazing. Adam says that Joselyn did a great job and says that Kayla was great too. He eventually goes with Joselyn Rivera.

Adam pairs Joe Kirkland and Bryan Keith next. Joe is going to sing “Mean” by Taylor Swift. Adam says that he wants to hear a little bit more attitude and says that he can make this work. Bryan is going to sing “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” by Bryan Adams. Joe sounds a little alike like the original and Adam tells him that he wants to be blown away with this song. They come out and sing. Afterward, Blake loved Joe’s song choice. Christina says that Bryan was really good, but Joe has cute eyes. CeeLo says that Bryan did an amazing job. Adam says that Joe was really great and Bryan kind of messed up, but picked it up. He eventually goes with Bryan Keith.

Next pairing for Team Adam is Amanda Brown and Michelle Brooks-Thompson. Amanda is singing “Paris (Oh la la)” by Grace Potter & The Nocturnals. Adam says that is so different, but not to over rock it and not to get too excited. Michelle is singing “Spotlight” by Jennifer Hudson. Adam tells her that she needs to be able to feel comfortable with this song. This is the first time that people are going to hear her and it is getting serious. They come out and sing. Afterward, Blake says that Michelle kicked the front door in on that song. Christina says that it was amazing and that this is was a singer’s battle. She loved Amanda’s voice control. CeeLo says that Michelle was able to embellish the role more. Adam says that he loved them both, but eventually goes and chooses Amanda Brown.

Adam chooses to pair Loren Allred and Nicole Nelson together. Loren is going to sing “You Know I’m No Good” by Amy Winehouse. Adam says that she needs to get out of the wedding singer vibe and have that darkness in her voice. Nicole is going to sing “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys. Adam says that she is going to hit the memorable moments with the song. They come out and sing. Afterward, Blake says that Loren became a star on the stage. Christina says that she is surprised by Loren. CeeLo says that Nicole was amazing. Adam says that Nicole was amazing, but Loren was amazingly surprising. Adam eventually chooses Loren Allred.

Last up for Team Adam is the pairing of Melanie Martinez and Sam James. Melanie is going to sing “Bulletproof” by La Roux. Adam says that it was underwhelming and says that just focus on the words. Sam is going to sing “Walking In Memphis” by Marc Cohen. Adam says that he needs to pronounce more and project. They come out and sing. Afterward, Blake says that they both have something special and says that Sam did a better job. Christina says that Melanie was more unique. Adam says that if he had to choose the better singer than he has to go with Melanie Martinez.

Team CeeLo is up now and the first pairing is between Avery Wilson and Cody Belew. Avery is singing “Yes 3x” by Chris Brown. CeeLo says that he doesn’t want to run out breath and to do something different with his voice. Cody is singing “Joleen” by Dolly Parton. CeeLo tells him that he likes the singing style, but needs to sing with a little more attitude. They come out and sing. Afterward, Adam says that this wasn’t one of Avery’s best and says that Cody was amazing. Blake says that the dance moves that Avery made opened the door for Cody to steal it. Christina says that Avery is great, but Cody was better. CeeLo says that both of them are amazing and says that he has to go with Cody Belew.

Mackenzie Bourg and Daniel Rosa are paired next by CeeLo. Mackenzie is going to sing “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen. CeeLo says that he is taking a risk and says that he will be new and different with this one. Daniel is going to sing “Back To December” by Taylor Swift. CeeLo says that timing is a little issue, but the connection is going to be more important. They come out and sing. Afterward, Adam says that Daniel has a new attitude and loved his song better. Blake says that Mackenzie was amazing to be singing his own song rendition. Christina says that Mackenzie owned it. CeeLo says that he is proud of both of them and says that he has to go with Mackenzie Bourg.

The next pairing for Team CeeLo is Terisa Griffin and Trevin Hunte. Terisa says that she is singing “Saving All My Love For You” by Whitney Houston. CeeLo says that she doesn’t need to push so hard. Trevin says that he is singing “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins. He wants to dedicate this to his music teacher that told him that he wasn’t going anywhere. He has a hard time in rehearsals. They come out and sing. Afterward, Blake says that Trevin blew it out and says that he has talent. Christina says that there is something special in Trevin. CeeLo says that Terisa did an exceptional job and feels fortunate with knowing Trevin. He decides that he is sticking with Trevin Hunte.

Team CeeLo’s next pairing is Mycle Wastman and Nicholas David. Nicholas is going to sing “Put Your Records On” by Corinne Bailey Rae. CeeLo says that it is going to be breath control that he is going to have to work on. Mycle is going to sing “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me” by Elton John. CeeLo says that he has to take a fierce approach with it and says that if he doesn’t take it and then it will be travesty. They come out and sing. Afterward, Blake says that Nicholas is perfect for CeeLo and says that it is great. Christina says that Mycle was great and showed more. CeeLo says that he loves both of them and says that he has to go with Nicholas David.

Last up for Team CeeLo and for the night is the pairing of Caitlin Michele and Diego Val. Diego is going to be singing “Are You Gonna Go My Way” by Lenny Kravitz. CeeLo tells him to go and attack the song. Caitlin is going to be singing “Bring Me To Life” by Evanesance. She has to do some work on knowing the lyrics. They come out and sing. Afterward, Adam says that Caitlin did a great job with that song. Christina says that Caitlin sounded similar to the original. CeeLo says that they are both great, but has to go with Diego Val. That is it for two teams. For Team Adam: Joselyn Rivera, Bryan Keith, Amanda Brown, Loren Allred and Melanie Martinez and Team CeeLo: Cody Belew, Mackenzie Bourg, Trevin Hunte, Nicholas David and Diego Val, they all get through to the Live Playoffs! The Knockouts conclude with Team Christina and Team Blake.
