The scene opens with a police car pulling up to an abandoned gas station where there are vehicles turned over and rust on them. The Sherriff, Rick Grimes, walks up to find that there are a lot of cars with dead people rotting inside. As Rick turns to leave, he hears a scuffle. A little girl is walking and he tells that he is a policeman. However, when the little girl turns around and she is not alive, but a zombie. Rick shoots her in the head. The scene flashbacks to before the incident happened and Officer Rick Grimes and Officer Shane Walsh are eating lunch and Shane talks about how he has women issues and he asks about Lori, Rick’s wife. Rick tells that they didn’t have a good night. He tells that she is always upset with him and said that he doesn’t care about the family. They get the call of a high speed chase and they lay down tire spikes in the road to catch the runaway vehicle.
The car comes and hits the tire spikes and then flips over. A man crawls out and starts firing at the police officers. Rick is shot in the side. The officers shoot the man. However, there is another man that comes out and starts to fire. Shane shoots the other gunman and runs up to his partner who tells that he is fine. They start talking and then suddenly, a third gunman comes and shoots Rick in the shoulder. The officers kill him too and then rush and ambulance. In the next scenes, Rick is slowly waking up in the hospital and Shane brings flowers. Suddenly, Rick wakes up. He is in the hospital, but something is different. He looks at the flowers and they look like they have been dead for a long while. He calls for the nurse. No answer. He gets up and starts walking around the hospital. A woman is lying in the hallway with her insides showing. He continues to walk through the hospital and there are bullet holes in the walls and a door that has “Don’t Open Dead Inside” written on it. Hands reach through the opening in the locked door. He runs off into the stairwell and finds the exit. He walks outside and finds that there are bodies everywhere. He continues to walk and finds a bike and a corpse comes to life that has been eaten almost completely. He rides to his home to house is empty and the next scenes show him crying for a bit. He is determined to find his family.
He goes back outside and sees a man in the street. A boy sneaks up to him and hits him in the face with a shovel. A man walks up to the other man and shoots him in the head. The man asks Rick about his wound and Rick passes out. He wakes up tied to a bed and the man who took him in introduces himself as Morgan and the boy that hit him in the face is his son, Duane. Morgan asks about the wound and asks if he was bitten. Rick has no idea what he is talking about and tells that he was shot. Morgan releases his ties and tells that if he tries anything, he will kill him. Rick walks downstairs to find Morgan and Duane eating and Morgan tells that there was a Zombie Apocalypse that happened and that he is in the middle of everything. He tells that there is a safe camp in Atlanta and that is where people have headed. After dinner they ask who he was before and he tells that he was a Sherriff’s Deputy. They hear and car alarm and Duane tells that “She” is there. Rick sees a black woman coming up to the house and tries to open the door. Morgan tells that they lost his wife when she got bit by one of the zombies and that he didn’t have it in him to kill her.
The next morning, they walk out and see one zombie is left. Rick goes out and beats its head in with a bat. His side is hurt but tells for them to give him a minute. They go back to Rick’s home and he tells that the pictures and photo albums are gone and so that would explain that she is still alive. Morgan tells that his wife packed the photo albums when they were leaving too and starts to get emotional. They go to the police station and they test the water. He tells that the station has their own propane tank system and don’t need gas to heat the water. They all take a shower for the first time in a long time. Afterward, they go to the armory and get loaded. They are about to cut ties to allow Rick to find his family and one of the police officers is there and he is a zombie. Rick shoots him and then drives off. Rick drives to the park where he was before and Morgan tells Duane that he’ll be upstairs. Morgan looks through pictures of his wife and finds a picture which he tapes to the window and sets the rifle up on a chair. Meanwhile, Rick finds the corpse from earlier crawling through the park. Morgan is in the room and starts shooting zombies so that he can draw out his zombie wife. At the park, Rick tells the corpse that he is sorry that it happened to it and then shoots it in the head. Morgan sees his wife, but can’t get around to pulling the trigger.
Rick is driving and tries to get a hold of someone on the radio. Meanwhile a small group are camped out and Shane is amongst the group and so is Rick’s family, Lori and Carl. They try to establish contact, but the connection is not good at all enough to get through. Lori tells that that finally there are other survivors and they are going to have to make sure that no one goes into the town. Lori gets upset and goes to the camp tents and Shane follows. He tells that crying about things is not going to change things. He tells that she can’t walk off like that and needs to do it for Carl. They kiss. Carl walks up and she tells that she is not going anywhere. Meanwhile, Rick looks at a picture of his family and gets out of his car that is out of gas. He walks up to a house and finds that the owners shot themselves. He sees that they have a horse and saddles it up. He rides up to the city and is stopped by a mob of zombies. His horse gets taken and eaten and he drops his guns and crawls under a tank. He is about to kill himself, when he sees and opening. He crawls inside and finds a zombie inside which he kills. He closes the tank and is trapped inside. A voice over the radio inside gives him hope there is someone out there that may help. Share this article with your friends
