Rick, Glenn, T-Dog, and Daryl move on after their grisly discovery to retrieve the guns when they encounter a group of scavengers who narrowly beat them to the catch. However, Glenn is kidnapped in the scuffle, which leads to a tense stand-off and a surprising discovery.
Meanwhile, back at camp, the group has to handle a serious situation when Jim begins acting unhinged.
Amy and Andrea are in a fishing boat on the quarry. They attempt to
reminisce about fishing with their dad, but they are 12 years apart and
have completely different memories. They each assume that the other has
a faulty memory, but Amy finally realizes that they were both right -
their dad taught them differently. "He knew we were so different," Amy
says. "He knew you needed to catch the fish and I needed to throw them
back." They tear up before remembering the "no crying in the boat" rule
which was likely more for their dad's sake than any effect it might have
on the fish. Dale keeps a watchful eye on them from the roof of the RV...Read the full recap

Trivia: The walker that bites arm is played by special effects make-up designer Gregory Nicotero.
Casting: The camp survivor, played by Orlando Vargas, was originally supposed slated to have a more elaborate death scene and be credited in the episode. This scene was deleted from the final cut.
Writing: This is the only episode from season one to be written by Robert Kirkman.
Shane: Jim, nobody is gonna hurt you, okay?
Jim: That's a lie. That's the biggest lie there is. I told that to my wife and my two boys. I said it 100 times. It didn't matter. They came out of nowhere. There were dozens of them. Just pulled 'em out of my hands. You know, the only reason I got away was 'cause the dead were too busy eating my family.
Daryl: Hey, kid, what'd you do before all of this?
Glenn: Delivered pizzas. Why?
Guillermo: The people we've encountered since things fell apart? The worst kind. Plunderers. The kind that take by force.
Rick: That's not who we are.
Guillermo: How was I to know? My people got attacked and you show up with Miguel hostage. Appearances.
T-Dog: Guess the world changed.
Guillermo: No. It's the same as it ever was. The weak get taken.
Daryl: You got some balls for a Chinaman.
Glenn: I'm Korean.
Glenn: Admit it, you only came back to Atlanta for the hat.
Rick: Don't tell anybody.
Daryl: You've given away half our guns and ammo.
Glenn: Not nearly half.
Daryl: For what? A bunch of old farts who are gonna die off momentarily anyhow? Seriously, how long do you think they got?
Glenn: How long do any of us?
Dale: I like what, uh, a father said to son when he give him a watch that had been handed down through generations. He said "I give you the mausoleum of all hope and desire, which will fit your individual needs no better than it did mine or my father's before me, I give it to you not that you may remember time, but that you may forget it for a moment now and then and not spend all of your breath trying to conquer it."
Amy: You are so weird.
Dale: It's not me, it's Faulkner. William Faulkner. Maybe my bad paraphrasing.
Glenn: He left the building. Why the hell would he do that?
Daryl: Why wouldn't he? He's out there alone as far as he knows, doing what he's gotta do. Surviving.
T-Dog: You call that surviving? Just wandering out in the streets, maybe passing out? What are his odds out there?
Daryl: No worse than being handcuffed and being left to rot by you sorry pricks. You couldn't kill him. Ain't so worried about some dumb dead bastard.
Rick: What about 1,000 dumb dead bastards? Different story?
Daryl: Why don't you take a tally? Do want you want, I'm gonna go get him.
Guillermo: Me and Felipe, we were the only ones who stayed.
Rick: What are you? Doctors?
Guillermo: Felipe's a nurse. Special care provider. Me? I'm the custodian.
Andrea: Wrapping paper, coloured tissue, anything?
Dale: You serious?
Andrea: How can you not have any?
Dale: Had I been informed of the coming apocalypse I'd have stocked up.
Factual Error: In several scenes throughout the episode Daryl's crossbow is incorrectly loaded. The nock of the bolt is resting too high above the bow string, and therefore, would not be able to fire properly.
In 1x02 "Guts
" Glenn tells the group that there are no manholes in the alley next to the department store that they can use to escape. However, in this episode, Daryl knocks down one of the Vatos in that same alley and he lands right on top of a manhole cover.
When Jim is pinned on the ground, having been tackled by Shane, his hat is knocked off. The next time the shot cuts back to him his hat is suddenly back on his head.
Crew or Equipment Visible:
When the group in engaged in the confrontation with Guillermo, you can see that the shotgun that Rick is holding is a fake. The gun does not have a trigger.
When the old woman walks outside during the stand-off Rick lowers his gun to point it to the ground. In the next shot his gun is suddenly raised again and we see him lowering it a second time from a different angle.
