The episode begins with Zombies everywhere. They chase Shane. They pursue Rick. It appears both survivors are at some sort of depot. Shane barricades himself in a yellow bus. Randall, his hands tethered together behind his back, crawls toward a knife. How did they get themselves into this predicament? FLASHBACK. Rick and Shane pull up to a four way stop of empty road. "Why'd we stop?" Shane asks. Rick wants to talk -- and not about Randall, who is locked in the back (Rick and Shane are going to drop him somewhere so he can't remember how to find his way back to the farm). Rick tells Shane that he heard about what happened at the school. Shane explains that he did what he had to do to ensure that Carl lived. Would Rick have done the same? "You just can't be the good guy and expect to live," Shane says. ..

Episode Quotes
Rick: I want to talk. I've been waiting a week, until we were going to do this. I just want to talk.
Shane: Yeah, we don't need to.
Rick: We do.
Shane: No man, we don't. We're doing this, I get it. He's passed out, we help him on back, he doesn't know where the farm is --
Rick: That isn't what I need to talk to you about. I heard what really happened at the school. Was it to survive?
Shane: Yeah. One of us wasn't going to make it out, it had to be him. One shot to the leg and Carl lives. Reality is, he had no business being here. There. Whatever.
Rick: You don't think I would have done it?
Shane: No man, I know you wouldn't --
Rick: You don't think I can keep Lori or Carl safe.
Shane: I didn't save that.
Rick: Or my baby. Is it going to have to be me too?
Shane: Rick, you can't just be the good guy and expect to live. Okay? Not anymore.
Rick: I'm not the good guy anymore.

Shane: When it started it was was just a couple of weird stories on the news. And it was so quick. Everything, it just happened. Two weeks later I'm in the hospital and there were soldiers shooting people in the halls. They were shooting people, man, not walkers. Then the walkers came through. You know, I tried to get you out...I tried, but we weren't going to make it. Man, there was no way and I knew it, but...but I couldn't live with it. I couldn't live knowing, but I had to. I didn't keep Lori and Carl alive, man, they kept me alive. I want you to know that I didn't look at her before that. Brother, if I could take it all back I would.

Shane: Hey Rick. I don't see any bites.
Rick: Gotta be scratches then. This one's hand. The other one's cheek. They had walkers here, burnt bodies down the hill.
Shane: Then I guess it's got to be scratches then huh?

Lori: Honey, I know how hard it is. I tried for days to reach my mom and get her on the phone. I can only assume--
Beth: It's just so pointless.
Lori: No, you have Maggie, and your father, and Patricia, and Jimmy and you've got to stay strong for them. I wish I could promise it would be alright in the end, I can't. But, we can make now alright. And we have to.
Beth: Thank you.

Maggie: Are you crazy? What if dad finds out?
Beth: What's he going to do, kill me for committing suicide?
Maggie: Stop being such a brat. He'd die, so would I. This isn't just about you, we all lost mom.

Episode Goofs

When Shane and Rick are driving Randall away from the farm, Shane see's a walker in the field while looking out his side window. On the way back, Shane see's the same walker in the field, out of his side window. Shane is coming back in the other direction, so the walker should not be on his side, but on Rick's side this time. Either the walker has crossed the street and is walking back and forth in the opposite field, or they made a mistake.
