At the Proctor Hotel in San Francisco, Jim comes outside to check on Secret Security agent Charles. He tells Charles that when President Grant arrives, he’s to escort the President to his room while Jim covers the outside. Jim then goes out into the street to look around and glances briefly at an organ-grinder across the street. Grant’s carriage arrives and Artie, disguised as Grant, gets out.
