Kate Thornton hosts the first episode of The X Factor. The judges visit Leeds and London. Among the thousands of hopeful’s who try out include Mario, Sweet Harmony and Gemini. Rapper Benjamin manages to get on the wrong side of Sharon by insulting her children. Leah Marie Williams isn’t happy when Simon tells her that she can’t sing.

2 :01x02 - Series 1 - The Auditions 2 (Sep/11/2004)
The show moves onto Newcastle where the judges are forced to listen to yet more awful auditions. Two rival bands both manage to make it through to the next stage of the competition after impressing all the judges. One female singer faces a dilemma when she is told that if she ditches her two singing companions she will make it through to the next round. After much thought she sings alone and makes it through.

It's round four of the auditions and the show goes to Scotland this week. The success rate of people getting through to the next round is low. When gets annoyed with Simon she pours a glass of water over his head. A few lucky hopefuls manage to impress the judges and make it through.

5 :01x05 - Series 1 - The Auditions 5 (Oct/02/2004)
Kate introduces the final round of the audition process. Chris Isaac receives harsh comments from the judges after his performance. Chenai and Llyod impress all the judges with their perfomances. Former Brookside actor, Danny McCall also makes it through. Sharon pulls a prank on the other two judges when her sisters audition. The audition process comes to an end and the judges look forward to finding out which section of the competition they will be in charge of.

6 :01x06 - Series 1 - The Boot Camp 1 (Oct/09/2004)
The judges find out which section of the competition they are mentor for. Sharon is in charge of the under 25's, Louis has the groups while Simon has the over 25's. By the end of the first session the judges are forced to eliminate acts from their section of the competition. By the end of the episode each judge is forced to eliminate even more performers.

By the end of today the judges will have to pick their three acts to take forward to the live shows. First though the judges have to whittle down their remainindg acts to just five. The final five in each section have one last chance to impress their mentors before they will learn their fate. Sharon picks Tabby, Roberta and Cassie to take through after some serious soul searching. Louis picks G4 Voices With Soul and 2 To Go. Simon selects Rowetta, Verity and Steve. For the six disappointed acts the competition ends here.

Kate introduces the first of the live final shows. Louis isn't impressed with Verity's performance. Most of the acts perform well and receive good coments from the judges. At the end of the show Kate reveals a sudden twist. The seven acts with the highest amount of viewer votes will go through to the next round and the remaining two have to sing again in the final showdown after which the judges have to decide who to put through.

Cassie ends up being the one eliminated this week.

Kate Thornton presents the first of the audition shows of the second series of X Factor. Shayne Ward impresses all the judges with his rendition of 'Sacrifce'. Sarah does not do nearly as well with her performance of 'I Believe I Can Fly' and leaves the audition room in tears after hearing the judges comments. Trevor Hodgson at just 16 manges to impress all the judges and makes it through. Spirit And Destiny manage to get on the wrong side of the judges and don't make it through. Others to impress and make it through included Alexandra Burke, Andy Abraham and The Brothers.

Charlotte is told that she can't sing by Simon and Louie and is comforted by Sharon afterwards. Aaron and Phillip impress the judges and make it through. Penélope Gómez has Louis and Sharon in fits of laughter with her singing voice and Simon is shocked when they put her through.

Kate is back with the fourth of the audition shows. The judges are split on their decision whether Rachel should be put through and in the end she doesn't make it. Michelle Thorne impresses Simon and makes it through to the next round. The judges are subjected to more awful renditions including one from Kerry who claims to be 48 but the judges think she looks older. Total Eclipse are not happy with Simon's comments and storm out of the audition room. Joanne Hindley and Chenai Zinyuku both manage to impress all the judges and easily make it through to the next round.

The audition process comes to an end and the judges look forward to finding out which section of the competition they will be in charge of.

Kate introduces the show from bootcamp where the acts who have made it through from the auditions learn for the first time which of the judges will be their mentor. Sharon is the mentor for the over 25's while Louis is the mentor for the under 25's leaving Simon in charge of the groups. By the end of the first day each judge has to whittle down the amount of people in their section of the competition even further leaving many of the hopefuls disappointed that the competition ends here for them.

When 16 year old Shaun enters the audition room he is over come by nerves and Sharon asks him to come back and try again later. When the auditions hit London, Simon shocks Sharon and Louis by introducing guest judge Paula Abdul to them. Pure Liberty, Leona and Jonathan all manage to impress the judges and make it through. Donna and Francesco are not as lucky and receive bad reviews. When the auditions return to Manchester, Shaun overcomes his nerves and makes it through to the next stage.

Paris manages to wow all the judges with her operatic voice and they all want her to go through until she admits that she is just 14. The judges ears are forced to listen to more awful performances before Raymond manages to impress them and make it through. When the auditions move onto Birmingham the groups manage to impress. Vicky who runs a Louis Walsh fan site makes it through. Richard and Sarah also impress the judges.

Kate presents the third of the audition shows. This week the auditions start in Glasgow where Allan manages to impress the judges. Not everybody though is nearly as successful and they are cruelly rejected by the judges. 44 year old Katie is successful though when Simon loves her voice and she makes it through. The auditions move to Newcastle where punk rocker Laura and boyfriend and girlfriend Gemma and Joe make it through. More hopes are dashed by the judges before Samantha makes it through. Back in Glasgow, Richard who made it through to boot camp last year makes it though again. Nikita manages to impress all the judges and Simon predicts that she could go far in the competition.

Linda, Ben and Robert both manage to impress the judges. The over sixty year old performers also manage to impress. Trevor is not to lucky though as he gives an awful audition. When the auditions move onto Manchester, Eskimo Blonde from last year return to try again without lead singer Hari. Hari is also back though as a solo singer. Hari manages to get through but Eskimo Blonde without her don't.

The auditions continue and this week the they start in Dublin. The day doesn't start well and the judges are forced to listen to many awful performances. Things improve though when Morgan makes it through. Sharon is forced to return home when there is a fire at her house. Rudi isn't happy when Louis wants to put him through and Simon doesn't. Wayne fairs better though and makes it through when both judges agree it was good performance. When the auditions move onto Birmingham, Sharon returns and 38 year old Ian impresses her and Louis and makes it though. The auditions then move onto Glasgow where Rudi returns to give it another go. Louis wants to put him through but once again Simon doesn't. Sharon agrees with Louis and Rudi finally makes it through. The McDonald Brothers also impress as does Kerry who is in a wheelchair.

It's the final chance for anybody to impress the judges. The auditions start in Birmingham this week where Leona manages to make it through. Others manage to impress the judges too but not everybody is as lucky. Jamie is disappointed when he doesn't make it through. When the auditions return to London, Jemma manages to impress all the judges. Others to impress and make it through include 47 year old Deborah and Roxanne. Eaton Road manage to impress all the judges and make it through. Debbie isn't happy when Louis doesn't like her and they end throwing a glass of water over one another. With the auditions over the judges learn which section of the competition they will be mentoring this year. Simon is happy when he learns that he has the under 25's as is Sharon with over 25's. Louis is not happy though when he learns that he has the groups.

Simon is not overly impressed with everybody in his section. The Brothers who just missed out on a place in the live finals last year split up and form two separate groups. A the end of the first day many are sent home leaving the lucky hopefuls to battle it out on day two.

The second day of boot camp opens with Simon and the under 25's. When Simon isn't happy he sends home more people leaving him with just fourteen. After he has seen each of the fourteen perform again he decides on his final seven. After Simon has made his decision he isn't happy and demands to be allowed to have an eight person. Richard is relieved when he gets a reprieve and makes it through. Next up is Louis and the groups. After hearing everybody perform Louis chooses his final eight instead of seven. Finally it's Sharon and the over 25's. Kate becomes overcome when it's her turn to sing but she just about manages to pull it off. Sharon reveals her final eight and it includes Kate.

Dermot O'Leary returns to present the opening set of auditions from the fifth series. Cheryl Cole joins the judging panel. The auditions come from Manchester, London and Cardiff. The judges are worried about the lack of talent in Manchester after some awful auditions. When the auditions move on to London the boyband JLS impresses all the judges as do Shauna, Austin and Rachel. The auditions move on to Cardiff where brothers Ant and Seb fail to impress the judges. 16 year old Alexandra fairs much better and manages to impress all the judges as does Marlon, Andrew and Aimee. Cheryl is shocked when Nikk Mager shows up for the auditions who appeared with her on Popstars The Rivals. Nikk doesn't make it through and Cheryl finds it hard to see him fail.

Girl Band manage to impress the judges though and make it through. Shirley shows up and has a crush on Louis. Even though her singing isn't the best Louis and Cheryl vote to put her through. Dermot presents more highlights from the auditions. The auditions start in London this week and 80 year old Cyril manages to impress the judges and make it through. He is is followed through by Timothy, Just Those Girls and Rachel. 23 year old Guylene is not to successful though and makes the judges laugh. The auditions move on to Manchester where Diana 16 year old impresses the judges with her voice and look. More hopefuls find their hopes being dashed by the judges comments. 19 year old Scott impresses the judges and makes it through as do twin sisters Francine and Nicola. Laura manages to impress all the judges with her voice and Simon believes she could be a potential winner of the series. Ariel manages to get on the wrong side of the judges with her bad attitude and Simon isn't impressed by her performance either.

The auditions start in Glascow this wee. The auidtions get off to a bad start when Suzanne fails to impress the judges and things dont improve after that. Things do improve though when Rikki manages to impress the judges. Also making it through are Andrew, Carol, High Voltage and Kirsty. The auditions move on to London where 17 year old Joelle manages to impress all the judges. Husband and wife act Hard Wearin' are not as successful though and fail to make it through as doesn't Ashwin who is isn't happy with the judges comments . Others to impress though and make it through include Joseph, EFX, Yingjung, Stance and Daniel.

This week the auditions start in Cardiff. 51 year old Ceri auditions for the judges for the 3rd time but once again she fails to make it through and those that follow her see their hopes dashed as well. Girl duo Adante are more successful though and manage to make it through. The auditions move onto London where Ryan manages to impress all the judges except Simon. Simon finds himself clashing with Cheryl about some of the hopefuls. Others to impress in London include Mali, Annastasia and Stacey. The judges ears are subjected to more awful auditions before Hannah performs for the judges. Hannah manages to impress all the judges with her voice. The auditions move onto Birmingham girl group Bad Lashes manages to impress Cheryl and Simon. Anthony returns to audition three years after his last audition hoping to impress Simon this time. With a new image Anthony does much better this time but still fails to make it through.

Dermot returns to present the last of the audition shows. More dreams are dashed by the judges comments. Duane from London manages to impress all the judges and makes it through to the next stage of the competition. Others to impress include Betty, Michael, Lauren, Katie, Duranee and Louise. 18 year old Amy manages to impress all the judges with her voice and sails through to the next stage of the competition. School caretaker Terry is not so successful though but still manages to keep his smile even though he fails to make it through. More hopefuls see their hopes dashed after their performances. 20 year old Lisa impresses the judges when they learn that she has lost 18 stone in weight and the judges are split in their decision after hearing her voice whether she should make it through. After much deliberation Simon has a change of heart and decides that she should go through. 15 year old Welsh schoolboy Jay manages to impress all the judges and makes it through. Others to impress and make and make it though include girl group Desire, Ruth and family group 4 Instinct. Alan's performance makes the judges laugh and it brings the auditions to a close.

Those who have made it through the audition process return to face the judges once again at boot camp at London's O2 Arena. The judges have to dash the hopes of some of them by sending them home but ninety make it through. Those that have made it through are then called back on stage and are told that one third of them will now be sent home without getting the chance to perform again. The judges deliberate on who to save and on who to send home. The hopefuls are sent to one of three rooms where those that haven't made it through to the next stage are then given the bad news.

The judges are not impressed by the efforts of Alan Busby and Tom Idelson and they fail to make it through. Daniel Williams, Lucie Jones and Lloyd Daniels manage to impress the judges and make it through. Pop duo Combined Effort tell the judges that they have recently split up as a couple but the judges manage to get them back together but they don't make it through to boot camp. Jade Fubara manages to impress the judges but Fouad is not so successful.

More highlights are shown from the auditions. Diana shows up in Glasgow with her dog called Jazz who fails to sing along with her. Gisela, Gordon and Carla also fail to impress the judges with their performances. Rikki Loney who appeared on the show last year and made it through to boot camp returns once again and manages to make it through. In London, 82 year old William performs the classic song 'Come Fly With Me'. Lydia, Alistair, Heshima and Shanna all manage to impress the judges after auditioning in London. When the auditions move on to Birmingham, Cheryl has to comfort Demi on stage after Simon and Louis critise her voice. Ollie manages to impress all the judges with his voice and sails through to the next stage of the competition.

More hopefuls audition in front of the judges hoping to make it through to the next stage of the competition. Richard, Maggie, Maurice and Chelsey all fail to impress the judges but Ethan manages to impress them all and sails through to the next stage of the competition. When the auditions move on to Birmingham, Faye, Treyc, Karl and Harmony Hood manage to impress the judges and make it through. Not everyone is as successful though and find their hopes dashed by the judges. All girl group Kandy Rain impress all the judges with their performance. Dominic who just missed out on a place in the live finals in 2007 returns to audition again. Like last time he manages to get through to boot camp. He is followed on stage by Nicole Lawrence who manages to impress all the judges except Simon. It Takez 2 manage to surprise the judges and audience with their performance and the judges decide to give them another chance and put them through to boot camp.

The three finalists have to perform three times tonight with one of the performances being a duet with a famous name. The judges give their verdicts on what they have heard. After each act has performed for the first time the phone lines are opened for the public vote. At the end of the show Dermot announces that Stacey has finsished in third place. The phone lines are then reopened for Joe and Olly.

Joe and Olly return to perform for the last time. The both perform twice one of which will be the winner's song. Alexandra Burke, Paul McCartney, JLS, George Michael and Leona Lewis perform live on stage. Dermot announces that Joe has been crowned the series champion.
