I couldn't do it anymoreRating: 5 likes, 1 dislikes
I REALLY wanted to like this show. I'm all for wonder and beauty and sweet and stuff that gets me all misty, but this show just takes WAY too long to get to the point of it. I watched 8 1/2 episode and halfway through the 9th episode I just said, "UGH! That's IT! I can't do it anymore." I think 8 1/2 episodes is extremely patient. I kept feeling there is a main point or story arc it was getting to but it's stretching that out WAY too long. Not enough interesting things happen in each episode to make me want to continue to try to get to the main point. Numbers are not that interesting a subject to most people, in and of themselves. The idea of interconnectedness is cool, but so far since it's been different people in almost every episode, it doesn't show enough of these people for long enough for you to build a relationship with them to care. I have to be able to empathize with someone and I think Kiefer Sutherland's character is supposed to be that person, but the frustration he has to deal with on a daily basis would drive me insane and at the end of the day, he doesn't really get any answers. His son seems intelligent but is either unwilling or unable to alieve his frustration and just adds to it more and more. I feel he's just stumbling through the dark every moment of his life.

I would've much preferred that "Awake" or "Alcatraz" or "The Finder" or even "Terra Nova" was renewed over this. I may be in the minority but I'd be surprised if this show is holding peoples' interest more than any of those other shows. I like sci-fi/fantasy and shows that deal with uncertainty and wonderment, but I just feel this one is taking so long in telling us it's point, I'm starting to wonder if it has a specific one. I think it does with them naming things like "The Amelia Sequence" but then they still haven't really explained that in 8 of the 13 episodes. I admit, halfway through the 9th ep, one guy did start to explain who Amelia was, but it was still so little info (and stuff we'd gleened pretty much earlier) that I think that was the last straw. I think that and the constant introduction of new characters is what finally got to me. Even though I like the actors and how it's filmed, I was like, "Ugh, who is THIS now?? Am I supposed to care about them as much as the 30 other previous characters I've been introduced to??" It's one thing to have a large number of characters in an emsemble cast, like on "LOST" or something, but you're usually introduced to most of those people at once AND shown them over multiple episodes so you get to know them. This one has 4 people that appear in every episode (just about) and then 5-6 others that are introduced every week and then not seen again or maybe once. They probably will be (hopefully) when they get to the point but 8 episodes is WAY too much to string people along for. Most people I know don't have the patience to sit through 3 episodes before they start to get the gist of a show and expect it to grab them. I'll usually give a show the Joss Whedon average of about 6 episodes (usually around then he's finished the character introductions and reveals the direction he's going for the series) if I don't know the creators and more if I do and respect their earlier work. That's why I gave this one a little more 'cause it was Tim Kring. Wanted to see where he was going. Still don't know and have given up caring. It does bother me a little that there's only a few more eps left to the season and I'm giving up on it, but I think at the level of frustration I'm having, I'll start yelling at the screen and getting to actually hate it if I keep watching. I'd rather someone who's still interested finish it and then tell me about it. ;-)
