The First Taste - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
The Rattrays are out for blood as they are brutally attacking Sookie behind the bar. They are beating her to a pulp when the local stray dog comes and starts barking. Mac Rattray pulls out a gun and points it at the dog. That is when Sookie grabs Mac Rattray by the ankle and throws him twenty plus feet clear across the lot into the woods against a tree. Bill comes along at a fast and mysterious speed killing Mac and then his wife Denise. Sookie watches but also goes in and out of consciousness.

Jason is at the local police department after having been picked up for the murder of Maudette Pickings. The tape they have with him on it where she fakes her death eventually shows her laughing and calling him a moron after he flees the scene. Jason is relieved to learn that he is not the one that murdered her. The investigating detectives mention that there are no other tapes after he tells them about how she recorded herself having sex with a vampire. He says that someone must have disposed of them and they tell him that maybe he came back to finish Pickings off and removed the other tapes. Jason says that he isn't smart enough for that and they have no choice but to agree with that statement.

Bill carries Sookie through the woods to find a safe spot to put her down at. She is spitting up blood and cannot feel her legs. Bill then offers his wrist to her. She is tentative and says she does not want to be a vampire. He tells her that she won't be a vampire, it will heal her. Soon she finally feeds on his blood. In fact, she had A LOT of his blood.

Tara goes home to find her mother passed out drunk on the couch. She gets a bowl of cereal and then calls her cousin Lafayette. He says that he is on his way to a party. She asks if he would pick her up because she can't handle cleaning her mother up and putting her in bed. He breaks down and says he is going to come pick her up.

Jason is released and goes to Dawn's house late at night. They had plans for earlier in the night but obviously his hands were tied at the moment. He is distraught over the whole debacle and it goes from her comforting him to them having sex.

Sookie comes to and catches Bill licking the wounds on her forehead. They talk about her being telepathic and how she can't hear his thoughts. She welcomes it with open arms because it is peaceful for her. Sookie sits up and Bill wants to ask her how she handles a social life and dating. She says she simply does not date. She flashes back to two unsuccessful dates. One was too aggressive sexually in his mind and the other one was great except for one thing--he was gay. They talk about what it sounds like to her hearing everyone's voices and she says that she sometimes sees it in images. She decides to go home and realizes that she is completely healed.

Tara and Lafayette are at the party. Lafayette is hitting on straight men and Tara is sitting on a couch enjoying her beer. A man comes up and tries to spit some game. She gets into a discussion with him, pathologically lying about how she has a husband that just got back from the "Black War". She tells him that her husband is a mercenary that just got back from Iraq on an assassination mission. She said that he is absolutely insane and she doesn't know who he would kill first but probably her. She tears up and she says "she sure hopes it would be her first". The man decided it would be for the best if he just got out of the situation and leaves her alone on the couch.

Sookie and Bill are walking and talking. She asks him how old he is and he tells her that he turned into a vampire in 1865 when he was thirty human years old. She is shocked because he looks older than that and he tells her that life was harder back then. She then asks if he was in the civil war. He said that he was and she asks him if he would be willing to talk to her grandmother's club. She tells him that the club calls themselves "the descendants of the glorious death". He looks hurt and tells Sookie that there is nothing glorious about dying in a war. He asks her if it would make her happy if he'd talk to her club and makes it clear that he is more concerned with making her happy and not anyone else. She says it will so he says that he will and asks when he may call on her. She tells him that she is off the following day.

While Jason is in bed with Dawn he notices that she has vampire bite marks on her collarbone. The news channels are booming with debates in regards to vampire rights. The religious call them demons that literally have no souls. Not only that but he also claims that the vampires are trying to buy their freedom by supporting politicians financially and fixing polls to show a stronger support for vampire rights. The spokesperson for the Vampire Rights movement tells them that they have little to no interest in human policy. Her opponent refuses to speak to her directly because he believes in Jesus Christ and won't acknowledge her ind. Sookie and her grandmother talk about how they don't think Jesus would mind if someone was a vampire.

Sookie's senses are extremely heightened as she realizes when she eats sausage. She can taste everything from the meat to even the grass and feed that the pigs were fed. This appears to worry her grandmother. Tara comes over and they discuss Bill.

Jason comes in to the house and eats left overs. Tara tells him she is glad that he didn't end up getting locked up. She says they must have thought that he slept with Maudette but denies it. Sookie asks if he is sure as she IS a woman and he says that at least she was human.

Sookie and Jason's grandmother tells them about how the Rattray's trailer was hit by a tornado. It "killed" the Rattray's. They were crushed to a pulp. Sookie decided to drive over to the scene to check it out for herself. It definitely looked like a tornado hit it. A cop and coroner show up and ask why she was there. They tell her they know she wasn't a fan of their's and they also know that Mac went to the hospital because of her. She said that she was defending a friend of her's and the cop said that she must have been talking about Bill. They also tell her that tornadoes hop and this supposed tornado did not hit anywhere else.

Sookie returns home to her grandmother vacuuming. She says she smells rotten food and she finds what looks to be a small cracker under furniture in the livingroom. Her grandmother tells her that Jason and Tara were also going to be joining them tonight during the formal meeting between Bill and their grandmother. Her grandmother asks her if she wanted to be alone with him and she says maybe. Sookie asks if she is going to tell her to be careful. Her grandmother says she's always careful and she knows she can always count on that.

Jason and Tara show up and continue to gripe about Sookie's new vampire friend. Sookie goes outside to sweep and Bill magically appears and it scares her. She tells him she doesn't like it when he does that.

She opens her door but doesn't verbally invite Bill in. He tells her that she has to invite him in or it is physically impossible for him to even try to enter a mortal's home. She invites him in and they all talk about why he is there. Jason is very anti vampire rights and tells Bill that he shouldn't be too sure about the VRA to pass. The grandmother reprimands Jason. Tara takes her turn asking if he had slaves. Bill tells her that he did not personally have slaves but his father did.

Sookie and Bill go for a walk. She says that she didn't realize he was so strong and he tells her that vampires get stronger every year. She asked if he killed a lot of people. He said he killed a few people accidentally in the beginning trying to get his bearings but now he can get blood from the Tru Blood, blood banks, and glamor feedings for love. The women forget about the glamor feedings afterwards.

She asked him the affects of feeding on his blood and he tells her that her senses will be strong. He says that her libido will also get more intense. Finally, he will be able to find her whenever he needs to no matter where she is. This can prove helpful if she is ever in any trouble. All of this information overwhelms her and she needs to take a minute.

Tara and Jason commiserate over not being understood and treated like children. They get close and cuddle a bit until Jason realizes that he is late in picking up Dawn from work. He also notes how angry she will be.

Sookie asks Bill if he ever glamored her. He says he has not and that he does not feel comfortable with doing that. She calls him a chicken and he tries but the glamoring doesn't work. She thinks it is one big joke and laughs about it but Bill tells her how strange it is that she's not affected by him. She tells him that she does not worry about strange since she can read minds.

She flashes back to the first time her mother realized she could read minds. She also recollects when she went to get checked out for it. Her father didn't believe it and her mother was consumed with guilt. She told Bill her mother tried to protect her even though she was scared of her. Bill asked when she and Jason lost her mother and she said that she lost both of her parents to a flash flood before she was eight years old.

Bill confided in her that he lost his family from his human life. He had a wife and children. Sookie realizes that Bill does not consider himself human, even though he was at one point. They end up outside of his house and they talk about how hard it is to get people to renovate so he has been doing it all on his own. She offers to make calls for him and then they have a moment. He tells her that he can smell the sunlight on her skin. They have their first passionate kiss before his fangs pop out and he tells her that he should see her home.

Dawn ties Jason to her bed posts the next morning and leaves him there while she goes to work. Tara is bar tending and Sookie is waitressing, too. A customer grabs Sookie and Rene stands up for her with force demanding he apologizes. She is flustered but thankful. She looks at her like a little sister. Sookie and Sam talk about how she cannot hear Bill's thoughts. Lafayette tells Sookie to not let anything get her down out of left field.

Tara asks Dawn how she thinks the relationship with Jason will work out. Then Sookie hears of a freak accident that killed ten people on the news. This accident also killed the anti-vampire rights activist and his family. She goes to Bill's house and she notices that there are multiple vampires that are scary and look like they are about to eat her by putting on a very scary and bloody hissing show.
