Cold Ground - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Sookie finds her Grandmother in the kitchen in a pool of her blood as the cat purrs and laps the blood up like a treat. She is in complete shock and Bill comes up behind her and grabs her and says that it is him. He hugs her and then someone comes up to the house. Bill is ready to attack and he grabs the man by the throat and slams him against the wall. It turns out to be Sam. Sam tells him to take his hands off of him and Bill asks him what he is doing there. Sam tells him that he was making sure Sookie got home safe and the door was open and then asks Bill what he is doing there. Sookie tells Bill that it is okay to let him go and Bill's fangs go back up and he lets him go. Sam notices that Sookie is covered in blood and then asks what happened.

The authorities are there and Sam wraps Sookie in a blanket. He tells her that she should go upstairs and lay down for a bit, because they will be there for a while. Sookie is tapping into what all of the cops are thinking about and gets a bit overwhelmed. She tells Sam that maybe she could use a little air and goes outside to sit on her porch steps. Sam follows her out and sits next to her. Sam tells her that he should have never left her alone, that he lost his temper and he shouldn't have. Sookie asks him if he thinks he could apologize to her some other time. He grabs her hand and tells her that whatever she needs she knows that he is right there for her. She tells him that she knows and thanks him and then taps into what he is thinking. He is thinking that he is very sorry and she tells him that she said another time. She asks him what happened to Bill and Sam says that he will go get him.

Sam goes into her room and finds him and tells him that she is asking for him. Bill asks if there is something Sam wants to say to him. Sam says that he wants him to stay away from her and Bill tells him that Sookie doesn't like when people try to make decisions for her. Sam tells him that he doesn't need to tell him who Sookie is, because he already knows who she is. He tells him that he has known her for a long time. Bill tells him that he should also know that this is not the time or place to mark his territory. Sam tells Bill that if it weren't for him her grandmother wouldn't be dead. He also tells him that if anything happens to Sookie that he promises he will be sharpening a stake with his name on it and walks out. Bill opens a wooden sliding window and notices that there is a cut in the middle of the screen.

In the kitchen the coroners talk about how her grandmother put up a hell of a fight. There are a lot of defensive cuts on her hands and there is blood splattered everywhere. The detective says that the person who killed her is a psycho for going after an old lady the way that they did. He says that this is the sickest thing he has ever seen. He then tells the sheriff that he told him they should not have released Jason. The sheriff says that this is his grandmother that they are talking about and the detective asks him if he doesn't think that "that little pervert ain't capable". The sheriff says that their grandmother did bring the "fanger" into a church and he is sure that that ruffled more than a few feathers.

Bill interrupts by coming and the detective tells him that it is a crime scene. The sheriff says that it is okay because he suspects that Bill has been around a dead body or two before and asks if he is right. The sheriff then asks if she was a friend of his and he says that he supposes that she was. The sheriff tells him that they have a couple more questions for him and then they go to talk. They ask him if it was true that he was there when Sookie found her grandmother. He tells them that he arrived a few moments after she did. They ask him why he would come to visit her so late and he tells them that they had certain personal matters to discuss. He tells them that he was waiting for her to come home from her engagement and when he heard the car pull up he came across the cemetery. The detective asks him about him hearing the car from across the cemetery and Bill explains that heightened senses is an affect of the vampire's condition. They ask him if he saw or heard any other vehicles--such as a truck maybe. He tells him that he didn't hear any other vehicles.

The sheriff mentions that most people wouldn't be too happy about a vampire moving in next door and says that she welcomed Bill with open arms despite his being a vampire. Bill said that she was very gracious. The sheriff says that all three victims having been murdered in the past week were all gracious to his kind, that they all had that in common. He then asks him if he thinks if it is a coincidence or not. Bill says that he doesn't believe it is a coincidence. He believes that whoever is doing this is targeting people that associate themselves with vampires. They say that he can't be serious, thinking that he meant that Sookie's grandmother was with a vampire. Bill tells them that he doesn't think Sookie's grandmother was the intended victim.

Sookie and Sam are still out on the porch and she says she should probably call Jason. Sam offers to call him. Jason is at someone's home after haven had many beers and having a lot of sex. Jason is sleeping so he throws his phone. Sam gets his voicemail and hangs up. Bill walks out and moves Sookie out of the way so they can move her Grandmother out of the home. The detective tells her that maybe she should go stay at a friend's house where she will be somewhere less isolated. She says that she won't be doing that and Bill says that maybe the detective is right. She says that this is her home and that she won't be staying elsewhere.

She reads the minds of coroner apprentice and the sheriff. The coroner apprentice hopes that she didn't recognize him from the vampire bar as he looked much different and the sheriff thinks how she is lucky she isn't in the bag because she is "Screwing that vampire" and that she could be next. He tells her--outloud--that they are truly sorry about her Grandmother. She asks them if they are done in her kitchen because she would like to clean up. They say that she can and that she should call them at the first sign of anything. Bill and Sam tell her that she really shouldn't stay there. Sam offers his trailer and says he'll sleep at the bar. She tells them that she is as safe at home as she is anywhere since she has both of them to protect her. Bill tells her that he has to go because it is almost dawn. He tells her that he will come back and Sam says that he can take it from there. She tells him not to worry about her and he should go. Sookie asks Sam to go get an extra mop around back and says that her Grandmother took a lot of pride in her home and wouldn't want anyone to see it like that.

Sookie sits in her kitchen to start cleaning the blood off of the floors. The next day everyone comes and brings her food and condolences. Tara grabs the tuna cheese noodle casserole from one well wisher and brings it to the counter and says "cause nothing says I'm sorry like tuna casserole". Lafayette is there and asks if she has seen Jason at all and she snaps on him and asks him how she should know since she isn't his keeper. Lafayette keeps his cool due to the situation. Sookie reads the mind of the well wisher and in her mind she is thinking that she heard that they almost cut off her head and that she didn't see any blood anywhere. She thinks that maybe she should have showed up sooner and maybe even brought the red velvet cake instead.

Arlene shows up and gives her condolences. She tells her that if she needs any help with moving or anything at all then she should tell her. Sookie tells her that she has no intentions of moving as she has far more good memories than bad ones. Arlene says that that is a good way to look at it. One of the well wishers moves a pie in the fridge to make some room and Sookie snaps and says that was her Grandmother's pie. She apologizes and says that she was just making some room and thinks in her head that she crazier than a bed bug.

Tara excuses her and Sookie and brings Lafayette upstairs. They tell her not to worry about what that snoopy old lady says. Then Sookie comes to the realization that her Grandmother is really gone. She tells them that she doesn't even know what to do or think. Tara says of course she can't with all of the circling buzzards. She tells her that she isn't there for their entertainment, she just has to feel whatever she is feeling. She says that she isn't sure she is feeling anything, that she feels numb. Tara tells her that numb is good, numb is exactly what she needs right now. She tells her to stop worrying about being so appropriate; this isn't an appropriate event. She thanks Tara for getting her out of there and that she hasn't had a single moment of silence. She says that she can't seem to block anything out right now. Tara asks her if she wants her to tell them all the shut the hell up. Sookie says that she wishes it was that easy and Lafayette offers her a valium. She tells him that she doesn't do drugs and he tells her to keep it on her nightstand just in case she changes her mind. He then tells her he is going to go check on the circling buzzards and brings the pie downstairs, too.

Jason drives to work and Renee says that this isn't good. Jason apologizes for being late and Renee says Jason doesn't know. The other worker says that he is so sorry and Jason asks about what. Tara and Sookie are still in her room talking about if they should call her cousin or Bill. She says that Bill can't go because of him not being able to be out in daylight. Tara tells her that she would lose it if she lost Sookie. Sookie tells Tara that last night was so horrible that she doesn't know how she would have handled it without Bill. She tells her that when she is around him she feels almost normal.

Jason comes in and slaps Sookie and blames her for what happened to their Grandmother. He tells her that it should have been her. Tara tells him that he better not lay another hand on her. He says that she's screwing a vampire and Tara says that that vampire was there for her last night when he wasn't. Then she tells asks him if his Grandmother raised him to beat on his sister and that she doesn't even recognize him anymore and tells him to get out.

He goes outside and the detective was out there and asks him where he was the night before. He says that he doesn't really know where he was, just somewhere with a woman. Everyone comes out to watch and the detective says "well, isn't that convenient?" because he says he got a number but he lost it. Jason asks him if he is saying that he killed his grandmother and pushes him hard against the truck and then gets in his truck and drives off.

Inside the home they are talking about what they saw. They are talking about how strongly he pushed the detective and Lafayette explains to them while he is giving them more sweet tea that Jason works out a lot and that he is real strong. Tara comes downstairs and she says that Sookie needs her rest and tells everyone to get out. Sam stands there and she says that he should leave, too.

Lafayette and Tara talk about all of the food and what they are going to do with it. Lafayette thinks they should toss it out because she doesn't need no "bad juju food". He explains that it is true that good food is a way to a man's heart. You can taste the love in the food and if you try this food that you can taste the fear and bad feelings that went into making it. Tara says that the cornbread tastes fine to her and he tells her that she's going to regret having eaten it.

Sookie is in bed and she wakes up to someone choking her. She gets out Bill's name and he wakes up in response to that but it is still day time and he can't go save her. Tara says that she should go and check on her and Lafayette tells her that he should trust that she is dead to the world. As soon as he says that Bill speeds through the door and goes upstairs. They follow him and he shakes her awake and she asks him what is wrong. He thought that something was wrong but it must have been a dream and that she should go back to sleep. He promises her that he is not going anywhere. So, she goes back to sleep.

Tara and Lafayette are downstairs and Bill is outside of the house watching it. Tara asks him if he thinks that vampires are capable of loving a human being. Lafayette says who knows what they are capable of. While Bill is standing outside a dog comes up and stands with him to watch the house.

They are at the funeral of her Grandmother. Jason is jittery and looks sick. The coroner apprentice pushes a man in a wheelchair to the service and she squeezes Tara's hand. She looks at him and asks him what he is doing there. He is her great uncle Bartlett. He tells her that she was his sister and that is why he is there. She tells him that he hasn't been a part of the family in a long time. Then she gets up to say a few words in memory of her Grandmother.

She says that her grandmother was everything to her. She wasn't just her grandmother she was her parent, teacher, and best friend. She hears all of the thoughts of the funeral goers and they are thinking that it is her fault she is dead and that she should be the one that is in that grave. Sookie says to say she'll be missed doesn't even cut it because she can't imagine a world without her in it. She says that she was always there with a kind word, a hot meal, and a shoulder to cry on. By hearing all of the awful words that people are thinking Sookie snaps and tells them all to shut the f*ck up and then runs off. Jason chases after her. Tara's mother decides that she has something to say.

She says that she didn't really know her too well but the few times she interacted with her she was nothing but kind to her. She tells them that she was a good, God fearing woman and that when she was going through some hard times that Tara would go stay with her and she always knew she would be just fine. She tells them that Sookie's grandmother took care of her when she couldn't and she will always be grateful for that and then steps down.

Jason chases after Sookie and asks that she forgive him and she is extra hurt that he invited uncle Bartlett. He tells her that family forgives one another and begs her because they are all they have. She says that they have nothing and walks away. Back at the funeral, Tara grabs her mother and tells her that she had no right to speak for that woman because she is the one that clothed her, fed her, and made sure that she was taken care of. She also said that her mother hated her and called her the white devil. Her mother tells her that that wasn't her. All of what she said was because she has a demon inside of her. A living and breathing demon. Tara laughs at her and her mother tells her not to laugh at her. She says that she tries to do right but the demon breaks her down. She says that she has to get it out of her and it is very expensive. Tara gets mad at her because she came to her grandmother's funeral because she needs money and walks away from her.

Sookie is walking through the woods of the cemetary and finds Bill's grave sight. Jason is at the funeral while people are leaving and saying they are sorry. He isn't seeing things very clearly because he is going through withdrawal symptoms of the V Juice. He gets in his truck and unbuttons his shirt and he is sweating a lot. He then goes to take another does of the V Juice and he throws it out onto the ground. He rethinks it and he can't find it and he is panicked by this.

Sookie watches as they lower her casket and Sam comes to her side. He tells her that he was looking for her. He says that he liked the speech at least what he heard of it and he especially liked the part where she told the whole town to shut the f*ck up and offers to walk her home. He offers to watch something with her but she tells him that she needs to be alone and goes inside. He begins to walk away and sees Tara walking up. He tells her that she wants to be alone and she says that she doesn't and Sam doesn't either. Sookie goes in and stands in the kitchen. She takes out the pecan pie that her grandmother last made. She cries and eats small bite by small bite.

Tara and Sam go to her hotel room where there is a lot of trash around yelling with a lot of domestic violence. She offers him a beer and that they are warm. He accepts and asks her if this is really where she lives. He says he thought that she lived with Lafayette and she says that she was but he has a webcam in his bathroom and she doesn't want perverts to watch her while she pees. He asks why she didn't just tell her that she needed a place to stay. She tries to start a fight and he asks her why she always has to start a fight and why she can't just let someone be nice to her. She says it is because of her bad self esteem and she doesn't know any other way to express her real feelings. He tells her that he should go and he said that he doesn't want to play games and he needs something real in his life. She says she does too and then he tells her that if they sleep together that they really did this as opposed to the last time when they said they wouldn't tell anyone.

Sookie finishes the pecan pie and goes upstairs and gets changed into her night clothes. The sun goes down and she runs to Bill's house. He opens the door cause he knows she is coming. They run to one another and they kiss. He carries her to his house. Tara and Sam finished and they wanted to go at it again and then people next door that were fighting earlier made up. Tara rethinks her position and then leaves Sam there to go see her mother. Jason is having sex with the woman from the bar again. She says that she loves him as they are having sex and he starts crying. Sookie and Bill are having a romantic night in front of the fire and she decides that they are going to make love for the first time. His fangs come out and he worries about it. She kisses him despite that and still wants to be with him.

Tara shows up at her mother and she says that she knew she would come and they embrace. Sookie offers herself to Bill while they are having sex. He then bites her neck.
