One random night while Sookie is working the night shift at her local bar, a mysterious man walks in. Immediately she knows something is different about him, because she cannot get any sort of mental reading off him. But when he orders blood, Sookie realizes that she has finally met her first vampire.
Bill saves Sookie from the Rattray"s Meanwhile, Tara must cope with family issues; and a new church threatens the vampire world. When Sookie visits Bill's home she is greated by three unfriendly vampires, whom arent interested in main streaming, like Bill.
Sam is lonely and Tara needs a release fro her mothers alcohalism, so they both agree to have sex with no strings attached.Tara heads to LaFayette in order to relax. Dawn returns home to see if Jason is still tied up. Meanwhile, Sookie meets some of Bill's friends.
When Dawn a barmaid at Merlotte's is found murdered, Jason becomes the lead suspect. Jason ask Sookie to use her mind reading ability to find the real killer. Bill brings Sookie to Fangoria; in order to find clues about the killer. Fangoria is the biggest vampire bar in Shreveport, and Sookie meets Eric, a vampire that is older then Bill.
Bill is welcomed to speak about his previous life as a Confederate soldier while at the Descendants of the Glorious Dead meeting. One member shows Bill a tintype picture of the Compton family, causing more questions. Meanwhile, Sam, Sookie, Tara and Jason are all at the meeting too. Sookie deals with losing someone who she was close to, and Tara is noticed by Jason while high on vampire blood.
Numbed by tragedy, Sookie looks for refuge from the cacophony of her friends’ and neighbors’ inner voices. After lashing out at his sister and decking Andy, Jason wrestles with withdrawal symptoms from his V juice habit. Tara resists the overtures of her mother Lettie Mae (Adina Porter), who’s trying to rid herself of a demon and needs her daughter’s help. Sam and Tara make a connection in their mutual search for “something real.”
After hearing a distressing recollection Sookie gave about her uncle, Bill takes action. Tara takes drastic measures in helping her mother. To satisfy his craving for V -Juice, Jason takes a road trip to Fangtasia. While there Jason meets Amy a women who is ore addicted to V then Jason. A group of vigilantes head to Merlotte to hunt for vampires who have made the scene there.
Oh, Sookie... After the fire destroyed the house, Sookie believes Bill to be dead. Jason and Amy seem perfect for each other after their night of passion sans penetration, but eventually Amy shows her dark side. Bill survived somehow by burrowing beneath the earth only to surprise Sookie after a most touching moment. Police question Sam about his nude runs, and decide to do a follow up on his story only to lead to more questions. Bill is ordered by Eric to bring Sookie into Fangtasia to question humans about missing money...only to find out that a vampire hired them.
Bill's continuous concern for Sookie causes him to go against the vampire's code. Jason and Amy go to extremes to score "V". They kidnap a vampire to harvest his blood. Tara goes back to the exorcist, and Sam is put in charge to look after Sookie while Bill faces a hearing.
Bill faces the vampire tribunal, and is ordered to do something that goes against his beliefs. Tara finds out the exorcists' true intentions. Amy makes a rash decision which changes Jason's and Amy's lives. Sam reveals a secret to Sookie.
Bill goes through with his punishment; a good Samaritan comes to the aid of Tara when she cries for help; Lafayette has a surprise for a two-faced state senator on the campaign trail; Jason finds himself once again in trouble with the law; and Sookie struggles for an explanation of what her latest vision means.
Jason gets approched from an unlikely group, the Fellowship of the Sun.. Sookie is doing her best to find the killer, and ends up in the Killers grasp.
The citizens of Bon Temps are worried another murderer is on the loose as a body is discovered at Merlotte's. Meanwhile, Sookie is irked at the presence of Jessica, a teen protege of Bill's, and his role in a death in the Stackhouse family. Jason prays for a way to pay to attend a retreat with an anti-vampire group.
An attempt to ease Jessica into her new life finds Sookie going a bit too far. Maryann wields her influence at Merlotte's, despite Sam's dismay; At the Light of Day leadership conference, Jason makes some friends...and at least one enemy; Eric thinks about the addition of one more member to the ranks.
Bill, Eric and the rest of the vampires are caught off-guard when a creature savagely attacks Sookie. A shy Hoyt finds himself attracted to Jessica as she makes her first visit to Merlotte's. Sarah and Steve try to boost the confidence in Jason in his calling. Meanwhile, Sam considers moving to new scenery, and Tara is shocked by the revelry at Maryann's latest bacchanal.
With Jessica in tow, Bill and Sookie head to Dallas to carry out Eric’s vampire-reconnaissance mission – but a surprise awaits them at the airport. At the Light of Day Institute, Jason falls victim to a practical joke, but has the last laugh when the Newlins anoint him for a higher calling. Maryann throws Tara a birthday party at Sookie’s, attracting much of Bon Temps to its Bacchanalian revelry. Sam postpones his departure from town to attend the bash, connecting with Daphne in the process. Having barely escaped Fangtasia, Lafayette finds himself reluctantly pulled back into Eric’s orbit.
Sookie connects with one of her own, then joins Bill and Eric for a strategic summit at the lair of the missing vampire, Godric, attended by his lieutenants, Stan and Isabel.
Meanwhile, Jason shows his mettle at a Light of Day boot camp, and is rewarded for his hard work with a gift from Sarah. Rebuffed by Tara in her relocation efforts, Maryann decides to cast her spell on the staff of Merlotte’s, softening Tara up towards her new “family.” Eric shares a little-known secret about his past with Bill, and Sookie makes a decision that might solve the Godric mystery – or get her killed.
Hugo and Sookie embark on a dangerous mission to locate Godric. Meanwhile, Bill is shocked when a vampire from his distant, more violent past resurfaces in Dallas. In Bon Temps, Daphne presses Sam to get comfortable in his own skin(s); Hoyt continues his unlikely courtship of Jessica; Andy interrogates Lafayette about his disappearance; and Tara and Eggs take a detour while on a road trip. At the Light of Day camp, Jason faces difficult emotional and physical choices.
Betrayed by Daphne, Sam finds himself in an unenviable predicament at the hands of Maryann and her wild-eyed minions. Imprisoned with Hugo in the F.O.T.S. church, Sookie uses her telepathic powers to reach out to Bill, who’s being detained at the hotel by a stubbornly obsessive Lorena. After crossing a line with the Newlins, a fearful Jason tries to sever his ties with the Fellowship of the Sun, but gets plenty of resistance from Steve and his enforcer Gabe.
Sookie’s captivity takes an unexpected turn when Eric arrives to do his master’s bidding on the eve of the Fellowship’s lockdown. In Bon Temps, Sam finds himself in hot water after making a gruesome discovery at Merlotte’s, and Andy proves no help in coming to his defense. Sent home by Bill, Jessica and Hoyt learn that when it comes to sex, every time is the first time. Tara and Eggs devour a mysterious meal prepared by Maryann, with unexpected results. After Jason pays off his debt to the vampires, Godric looks to enlighten his more single-minded followers.
A wounded Eric plays Sookie for a sucker, to Bill’s dismay, and ends up getting inside her head. Later, Sookie and Jason bond over their recent adventures. Blaming Eggs for Tara’s bruises and bizarre behavior, Lafayette and Lettie Mae try to figure out a way to pry their kin from Maryann’s clutches. Hoyt defends his relationship with Jessica to Maxine, to no avail. Jailed by Bud along with a group of Bon Temps revelers, Sam looks for a way to escape and avoid capture by an increasingly obsessed Maryann. In Dallas, Eric and the vampires defend their recent actions to Nan Flanagan and are shocked when Godric decides to take the fall for their PR disaster.
Sookie, Bill and Jason return to a Bon Temps turned upside down by Maryann. Lured to Merlotte’s by Arlene, Sam and Andy find cold comfort in their refuge from a group of bloodthirsty revelers. Bill discovers that traditional vampire techniques don’t work on Maryann; Hoyt and Jessica try to keep a lid on Maxine’s madness; and Sookie tries to push through the darkness consuming Tara. With all hell breaking loose, Jason takes the bull by the horns to rescue Sam, at least for the moment.
With the crisis in Bon Temps careening out of control, Bill seeks out the advice of Sophie-Anne, the Vampire Queen of Louisiana, but must exercise patience before she gives him critical information.
Meanwhile, Sookie and Lafayette find that protecting Tara from herself is more difficult than they anticipated; a desperate Sam turns to an unlikely source for assistance; and Jessica tests Hoyt’s allegiance to Maxine.
Bon Temps reaches a fever pitch as Maryann prepares for her ultimate bestial sacrifice, conscripting Sookie to be Maid of Honor at the bloody nuptials.
Meanwhile, Sophie-Anne warns Eric to keep the lid on Bill’s inquisitiveness; Jason leads Andy into the heroic abyss; and Hoyt struggles with Maxine’s endless stream of insults. Deliberating on what may be his final move to save Sookie and the town, Sam places his trust, and his life, in a most unlikely ally.

Sookie joins Alcide at a raucous engagement party for his former fiancée, Debbie Pelt; Eric is given a deadline to locate Bill; Andy gets a promotion and draws Jason's attention; Franklin takes Tara on a road trip; Arlene is irked by Jessica's arrival at Merlotte's; Sam brokers a deal with Tommy and his parents; Bill "procures" dinner for Russell and Lorena.
Tara is still a bit tied up. Eric is drug to see the King and learns some interesting truths. Sookie is still dancing with wolves. Lafayette has a love interest. Sam grows concerned about his brother.
Spurned by Eric, Sookie fears the worst for Bill, whose fate now lies in Lorena's hands. Jason's romance with Crystal hits a snag, as does Lafayette's with Jesus. Fueled by a night of passion, Tara executes a desperate plan to stave off Franklin's advances. After revealing his master plan to Eric, Russell pays a visit to Louisiana in order to start executing it. In Bon Temps, Tommy finds it difficult to leave the family nest. Jessica gets her fix from a Merlotte's customer.
Sookie tries to save Bill, Sam goes to a dog fighting camp to rescue Tommy, Russell declares independence from vampire authority.
Sookie doesn't feel like she can trust Bill after all of the danger she and her family has been put through. Sophie-Anne moves in with the King. Lafayette is surprised by a visit from his Mom. The King comes for Sookie.
With the ratification of the Vampire Rights Amendment at hand, Nan Flanagan detours to Fangtasia to confront Eric about the Magister’s disappearance. A grief-stricken Russell vows revenge against his foes, vampire and human. Awaking from a slumber, Bill uncovers the truth about Sookie’s true identity. Jason gets unexpected help as he goes up against Felton (James Harvey Ward) and Calvin. Sam is distressed by Tommy’s attitude; Tara encounters a new ally and an old tormentor; Hadley introduces Sookie to a new family member; Arlene despairs about her future; Hoyt confronts his true feelings
