Under the Dome

Under the Dome

Chester's Mill is a place like any other. At least, it used to be. Until we were cut off from the rest of the world by a mysterious dome. Invisible, indestructible, inescapable. We don't know where it came from or why it's here, but now that we're all trapped under the dome together, none of our secrets are safe.

On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester’s Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a woman’s hand is severed as “the dome” comes down on it, and people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when—or if—it will go away.

Dale Barbara, Iraq vet with a mysterious past, is trapped in Chester's Mill and finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens—town newspaper editor Julia Shumway, physician’s assistant Angie McAlister, her brother Joe. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing—even murder—to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn’t just short. It’s running out.

Recaps
1x13: Curtains recap: Inside the mini-dome, a monarch butterfly starts to emerge. Joe, Ben, Carolyn, Norrie, and Linda watch and Linda tells them to move away. She demands to know how long that they've known, and Carolyn tells her that the kids think the egg generates the Dome. They tell her about how the monarch is to be crowned and Joe says that they need to get the butterfly out of the mini-dome before it is hurt... read more.

1x12: Exigent Circumstances recap: In the barn, the egg keeps glowing purple... read more.

1x11: Speak of the Devil recap: Junior, Joe, Angie, and Norrie paint the dots that they saw onto the walls of the barn and wonder what the Dome is trying to tell them now. Joe notices four stars that aren't part of a constellation and figure that they represent the four of them. The group notices that the chrysalis has changed color from green to clear, and Joe figures that it will change into a monarch butterfly. Norrie complains that it's all too much, but Angie points out that the Dome has been clear that it doesn't want them telling anyone else. Joe reminds them that the Dome spoke through her and she might know, and Junior suggests that the monarch might be someone who can bring the dome down. Angie tells Joe to tell Julia and he leaves... read more.

1x10: Let the Games Begin recap: Joe and Norrie wake up in the barn, their hands tied together to keep the other from walking off. Norrie checks the mini-dome as Angie wakes up, and they see a caterpillar inside by the egg. Joe points out that it has black and yellow stripes and figures that it will turn into a monarch butterfly, which ties into what Julia heard. Angie is reluctant to trust Julia, but Joe points out that the reporter could be the key to opening the dome by providing the fourth hand. The three of them touch the dome and after a moment, a fourth handprint appears. Norrie suggests that they find someone else who has had seizures and they cover up the mini-dome and leave. Once they leave, Dodee enters the barn and removes the blanket... read more.

1x9: The Fourth Hand recap: Julia leads Barbie into the forest to show him the pink egg with the mini-dome. He suggests that the egg is projecting the dome like a planetarium. When they get to the spot in the forest, they find a spherical half-hole in the ground but no sign of the egg or the mini-dome. Julia insists that it was there and they wonder where it went, just as Linda calls Barbie to tell him that there have been shots fired and she needs him. Barbie takes off while Julia stays behind to find it... read more.
