Top 20 Countdown

Show Tidbits
Until April of 2006, originally the top 20 videos were determined by how popular the song was (sales, chat, message boards, searches, ect.) that week.

After 20 weeks on the chart, a video is retired. The first to go was "Buttons" by the Pussycat Dolls featuring Snoop Dogg.

It is rumored that former host Matt Pinfield was fired because he did not show up for some of the recordings.

The band Daughtry has the record of most music videos by one artist at the number one video spot with thirty-four weeks.

The Dixie Chicks hold the record for both most consecutive number one spot and video longest at the number spot with their music video, "Not Ready to Make Nice" with thirteen weeks.

The show original started out as VH1 Top 10 Countdown as VH1: Music First.

Keane's music video, "Somewhere Only We Know" has the record number of weeks on the countdown, non-consecutively (twenty-eight) and the only one to be on the countdown for over twenty weeks.

Due to layoffs at MTV headquarters, VH1 (which is owned by MTV) started to film the show at different locations, rather than in the studio.
