Free-spirited businessman Ripley Holden tries to open a casino in Laughlin, Nevada. But he soon runs into several obstacles that he must overcome, including money issues and the murder of his ex-business partner.
Actually pretty good if you like musicals, ( and drama's) and I do.

Son of a gun, I totally forgot that it was premiering on a special night. I wrote it down for a reason. I'll have to stream it online. It's good to hear you liked it, though! |

There were parts I liked and parts I didn't. I liked Hugh Jackman, but somewhere along the line the show lost me. The musical scenes were okay, nothing spectacular, but it was too off-beat or something for my taste.
Melanie Griffith is a good actress, but she seems wrong for the role.
I'll give it another chance (if I can remember the time slot change.....) and see if it improves over the Pilot. Most shows need a couple of episodes to get the groove down. |

You know what bothered me about the musical scenes? Besides the inconsistency in the fact that the "One Way or Another" scene seemed to be treated a a fantasy sequence while the others were treated as if people were just singing and dancing in their world? It's that we can hear the original song over the actors singing along to it. If you're going to have the actors sing, have them sing. If you're going to have a song as a soundtrack, have it as a soundtrack. The mix between the two was distracting, especially when I couldn't even hear the actors singing at some points.
Anyway, that doesn't bother me enough to not watch tonight, so I'm going to check it out again. |

Exactly. The music scenes were almost too karaoke-esque.
Has anyone seen Blackpool, the UK show the series is based on? Just wondering how the remake stacks up... |

I have not seen it, but all the reviews I've read of Viva Laughlin by people who've seen Blackpool have been of people who loved Blackpool and are disappointed that Viva Laughlin is "so bad." Not unusual for fans of an original, I guess. |
