Fifteen years ago, Artie and MacPherson are at the scene of a fire. MacPherson insists on using the Phoenix Pendant to go in and rescue the woman they both love, but Artie warns that it will cause more people to die. MacPherson insists that the Regents aren't using the artifacts to help the world. he tries to grab the pendant but Artie refuses to give it over, to MacPherson stuns him and takes it. He goes into the burning house and emerges a minute later, unscathed and protectively carrying a woman...

Artie: Hey, guys, the Phoenix and the Goblet of Severan, Mrs. Frederic says they've been taken from the warehouse. And she seemed shaken.
