<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
Fifteen years ago, Artie and MacPherson are at the scene of a fire. MacPherson insists on using the Phoenix Pendant to go in and rescue the woman they both love, but Artie warns that it will cause more people to die. MacPherson insists that the Regents aren't using the artifacts to help the world. he tries to grab the pendant but Artie refuses to give it over, to MacPherson stuns him and takes it. He goes into the burning house and emerges a minute later, unscathed and protectively carrying a woman.

In the present, Mrs. Frederic tells Pete, Myka, and Leena that five firemen died that night as a result of McPherson using the pendant and the woman, Carol Augustine, now lives in Washington D.C. alone. She then married MacPherson, who was convicted of five consecutive life sentences. During an unexplained explosion, MacPherson faked his death and then disappeared until now. Leena says she's been monitoring the D.C. operation watching Carol but they haven't MacPherson.

In the warehouse office, Artie explains that MacPherson was injected with a substance called painite, which reacts violently with the walls of the warehouse and causes the subject's blood to turn into acid, killing him. Claudia is running the Internet to locate MacPherson and finds a web site with MacPherson is selling Edgar Allen Poe's pen. It's part of a collection, but when Artie clicks on the link to see the rest, he triggers a virus and Claudia fights to stop it.

At the Freitag Tool and Die plant in Washington, MacPherson meets with two buyers, Pak and Freitag, and demonstrates the Goblet of Severan. He gives it to Freitag as a sample and displays the Phoenix Pendant. MacPherson puts it on his bodyguard, Carson, and shoves him into the furnace to provide a demonstration. After a minute, Carson steps out, unscathed. However, the buyers' two assistants fall over dead. MacPherson explains that the Phoenix has a cost.

While Claudia works to restore the computers, Artie meets with Pete, Myka, and Mrs. Frederic. They ask Artie what he might know and he takes offense at them grilling him. When he objects, they ask about Carol and Mrs. Frederic backs their efforts. She admits she told them about Carol and insists the agents need to know everything if they're to survive. Artie apologizes and admits he should never have gone to see Carol. He's worried that he set her up as a target and Mrs. Frederic insists they need to talk to her. Artie leaves with the agents and Mrs. Frederic tells Claudia to brief her on the magnetic coat and gooery events.

In Washington, Artie tries to warn Carol, who insists that she hasn't seen MacPherson in fifteen years. She hasn't forgiven him for killing others to save her. Pete and Myka soon spot enough clues to realize that MacPherson visited her recently. Carol insists McPherson is a changed man but confirms he was last there three days ago. Myka finds a card with an address on one side and an Egyptian was scepter on the other, representing control over chaos. Carol is wearing a necklace with the same symbol and Artie says he has to take it. As she turns it over, Pete suddenly gets a very strong vibe. He tells Myka that he's getting it from Artie, and that he might die.

Claudia restores the computers and hacks into MacPherson's web site. Leena looks on as Claudia draws back in shock. She explains that MacPherson was Joshua's physics professor when she was a kid. He gave Joshua Rheticus' Compass and contacted her eight months ago when she was tracking the warehouse to find Artie. MacPherson helped her get around the warehouse firewalls.

Artie, Pete, and Myka go to the address on the card, Freitag's company, and Freitag confronts them. He claims not to know MacPherson and invites them to search. He takes out the Goblet and activates it, stunning them. Pete manages to knock it out of is hand, shattering it on the floor, and Freitag flees as the backlash sweeps through the plant.

Artie and the others are deafened, but he uses a tuning fork artifact to restore their hearing. He explains that the Goblet of Severan is one of a matched pair and the other one is at the warehouse. Artie has Pete put the pieces in his pocket for safekeeping while Myka finds a box with the was symbol on it. Carol's necklace acts as a key and Artie finds a pair of eyeglasses inside. He puts them on and can see the Phoenix Pendant. The glasses act as a catalog of the artifacts that MacPherson has and the starting bids. Artie insists the Phoenix is in the warehouse and MacPherson can't have it. He figures it's a trap and MacPherson would know he'd figure it out. he's reluctant to take the agents. Myka uses the glasses to look at the box and realizes there's an address and time on it: the time of MacPherson's auction.

Leena tells Mrs. Frederic what she knows about Claudia and MacPherson and admits there's always been something out of tune about her. She's sent Claudia back to the B&B. Artie calls to tell them that MacPherson has the Phoenix and Mrs. Frederic goes to check on it. There's nothing there but an IOU from MacPherson. She and Leena check on the Goblet of Severan and discover that it's been stolen as well. Leena checks the video display system to see who accessed the item last and discovers that Claudia recently opened the box.

Pete, Myka, and Artie go to the address on the box and find an empty field. Myka wonders why MacPherson hasn't killed them and figures he's up to something else. Mrs. Frederic calls to let them know that the Goblet and the Phoenix have been stolen. The trio waits… and a boy rides by on a bicycle. As he passes over the ground, there's an odd visual distortion. Artie puts on the glasses and realizes that MacPherson replicated Timothy Leary's reading glasses. They pass the glasses around and Myka spots a wooden panel with a square hole in it. When she inserts the box, a ladder opens up. They descend into an underground storage facility holding Warehouse 13 crates. Pete gets his vibe about Artie again, and Artie realizes it's about him. Artie tells him to let him know when he gets a specific vibe. They split up over Artie's objections and the agents find a chamber where the buyers are waiting. A man enters to begin the bidding: Artie.

The buyers know Artie by name and begin the bidding. The agents wonder what's going on and wonder if MacPherson is using an artifact to mind control Artie. Someone comes up behind them: Artie. He points out the security cameras and figures that MacPherson is trying to frame him as a traitor like he failed to do several missions ago. Myka remembers the Harriet' Tubman's Thimble, that she used when stitching the rags of her fellow slaves. It became imbued with the property of light refraction to project an image of someone different than the wearer. They figure MacPherson expects them to come in blasting and they try to devise an unexpected plan.

Leena and Mrs. Frederic confront Claudia with the evidence against her and admit that it's possible MacPherson used an artifact to secretly program Claudia as a sleeper agent. Leena reads her and says that something is wrong with her. Claudia storms out and return to the B&B. Mrs. Frederic lets her go, figuring it's better if she's not in the warehouse. She warns that MacPherson could get inside his opponents' heads and throw them off their game.

Artie, Peter, and Myka separate and come at the bidders from different directions. However, MacPherson gets behind Artie and captures him, and then holds up a small metal ball.

"Artie" prepares to sell Edgar Allan Poe's notebook and pen when the fire alarm goes off. Pak and Freitag come in and arrest "Artie." However, MacPherson emerges from a hallway, pulling Artie along on a chain. Pete removes the thimble to reveal that "Artie" is Carson. MacPherson put the metal sphere in Artie's mouth and explains that it's an eggshell fusion bomb. If it's cracked it will cause a small nuclear reaction. MacPherson forces the agents to drop their guns and Pete wonders what happened to him. MacPherson says he's been in exile for 15 years and he plans to try Artie posthumously for his crimes. He then gets a vibe from Pete and says he knows what he's thinking. MacPherson says that he can tell what is passing through his mind: that he wonders if the artifacts should be put out in the world rather than held by the Regents. Pete tells him nuts and MacPherson concedes the point. He prepares to depart and let the agents try and save Artie. Pete uses a shard of Goblet from his pocket to stun MacPherson. Artie coughs out the grenade and Myka catches it.

As they drive back to the warehouse, Artie explains that they're going to imprison MacPherson in the Bronze Sector. Myka observes that area isn't in the manual and MacPherson and Artie explain that people who had to be removed from society for all eternity are placed in the Bronze Sector. Mrs. Frederic is waiting for them when they arrive. MacPherson reminds them about the painite in his blood. Mrs. Frederic gives him a diamond necklace with traces of palladium, which neutralized the painite. Mrs. Frederic says goodbye and leaves with her bodyguard.

The Bronze Sector contains individuals flash-frozen and sealed in bronze, people who would have been worse than Hitler and Mussolini except they got to them first. Leena comes in to ask Pete and Myka to help her restore the artifacts. Myka doesn't want to watch and leaves with Pete. Artie has nothing to say but goodbye. As he prepares the process, MacPherson offers him a chance to join forces with him. He explains that he's not pleading for his life, he's pleading for Artie's. Artie flash-freezes him and leaves.

At the B&B, an angry Claudia takes her things and walks out.

At the warehouse, Leena decides to go check on Artie, who is contemplating the bronzed MacPherson and regretting the waste. He leaves. In the warehouse, Pete gets another vibe.

A woman activates the reversal and release process on the bronzing mechanism.

Mrs. Frederick tells her bodyguard to drive back to the warehouse.

MacPherson thanks his savior: Claudia. He tells her to make sure she's seen on the video cameras. They go to the office and MacPherson removes the thimble, revealing "Claudia" as… Leena. He now has unfettered access to Warehouse 13. He tells her to activate the codes that Artie downloaded when he accessed his website.

Artie is putting away an artifact when he notices someone interfering on one of the remote terminals. He runs to the office and MacPherson dares him to shoot. He's immune to the Tesla gun and activates the security systems, shuttering up the entire warehouse. Artie attacks him and MacPherson stuns him and then strides to the umbilicus. Pete and Myka get to the locked office door and watch as Artie staggers to his feet and proceeds down the umbilicus. Pete and Myka break through the office door too late as MacPherson gets to the other end of the umbilicus. He opens a hidden panel and activates the umbilicus elf-destruct . With only five seconds left, Artie has no chance to escape as flames sweep over him, severing the internal structure's link with the outside.

MacPherson strides away from the warehouse while Pete and Myka get the umbilicus doorway open. They find themselves totally cut off from the outside world with no sign of Artie.
