After the destruction of the umbilicus, Pete and Myka run to the sublevel beneath to try and find Artie. Meanwhile, in the Bronze Sector, Leena opens another storage chamber and frees one of the individuals stored within.
Myka finds Artie's glasses and the agents notice the ash reassembling itself into Artie. They greet him and then he shows them the Phoenix amulet in his pocket. They realize that someone else must die to pay the price of the artifact's immunity to flame. Pete starts to choke but finally clears his throat and says he's okay.
Mrs. Frederic's bodyguard is driving her back to Warehouse 13 when the bodyguard starts choking.
In the sub-level, the trio hears a crash above and run to investigate. Mrs. Frederic's car has slammed into the warehouse. Mrs. Frederic herself is lying nearby, badly injured.
On a hill overlooking the warehouse, MacPherson stands by an emergency escape tunnel. Leena arrives with a heavily blanketed figure, and warns they may be sensitive to the light for a while. MacPherson sends Leena back to the warehouse and then welcomes the figure to the future.
Later, Mrs. Frederic is taken to a military hospital where she lies unconscious. Artie takes her hand and says they need her, and Mrs. Frederic seemingly wakes up and tells him to find Claudia, and warns that MacPherson is running a long con. He wakes up from what seems to be a dream.
Myka, Pete, and Leena review the security footage showing Claudia freeing MacPherson. Pete doesn't believe that Claudia would be tray them but Myka notes that she ran. Leena has a brief flash of herself in a mirror, with Claudia's reflection. Artie arrives and tells them that she's been spotted heading to Cern, Switzerland, where her brother Joshua works at a nuclear facility. Artie tells them to stay and retrace MacPherson's steps within the warehouse while he goes to get Claudia.
Pete and Myka scan the warehouse for MacPherson's trail and find scratches on the floor leading out of Bronze Sector. They realize that someone else was removed from the bronzing facility and check the logs to get the name of the second person. They realize it was H.G. Wells. Leena confirms that Wells wasn't on the list of prisoners. They determine that someone broke into Wells' museum home in London, and figure that MacPherson broke in. When he didn't find what he needed, he freed Wells. Pete and Myka head to London to investigate.
Claudia calls Joshua at his lab and tells him that Professor Reynolds was actually MacPherson. She warns her brother not to trust Reynolds if he contacts Joshua. Joshua's superior Dr. LeFevre comes in and asks for his help to remove some material from the lab. As LeFevre leaves, he sees the real LeFevre down the hallway, removes the Harriet Tubman thimble, and reverts to his normal appearance as MacPherson.
Pete and Myka arrive in London and go to the Wells museum. Pete flirts with an attractive British woman, and they notice that the name of one of the guests is a Wells' character. Pete confronts the supposed H.G. Wells impersonator who lectures at the museum, but the curator orders them out. Myka realizes that the impersonator is a real impersonator.
Claudia arrives in Switzerland by train and goes to visit her brother. She notices someone and lures them into an alleyway. Claudia hits the man over the head but discovers that it's Artie.
Pete and Myka are forced to evacuate the museum and they figure that Wells has already been there and start searching the place.
In her coma, Mrs. Frederick dreams of what happened with Claudia and Leena, and wakes up.
As she goes through clippings of H.G. Wells' social activities, Myka figures that's why he was bronzed. Pete hears someone at the door and yanks it open, and finds the woman from earlier, Helena, trying to get in to get her notebook.
Claudia wonders why Artie is there, and he explains that he trusts her enough to take the risk. As they go to see Joshua, Artie realizes that a man named Reynolds offered Joshua the position at the nuclear facility. Since MacPherson impersonated Reynolds, Artie figures it was part of MacPherson's long con game.
Artie calls Myka and learns they're after H.G. Wells.
As Pete and Helena kiss, he gets a bad vibe. Myka comes in to pass on Artie's news that H.G. Wells was actually a woman. Helena grabs Pete's Tesla and holds him hostage. She explains that she was apprenticed at Warehouse 12 and met Tesla in 1863. Myka hints to Pete to activate his cellphone and he does, distracting Helena so they can capture her. They handcuff her and demand answers, and she admits she's still angry at men for how they treated her enlightened views. When Pete wonders why she's so angry, Helena explains that she was conscious the entire time she was bronzed.
Under Helena's instructions, the agents find the secret compartment that MacPherson was looking for. Inside it is a metal Victorian-style vest. However, she cons them into setting off a trap which causes gravity to reverse, sticking them to the ceiling. Helena is immune because of her magnetic boots. She explains that she was bronzed because no one could accept that a woman could conceive of scientific writing. Her brother Charles played the role of "H.G. Wells."
Artie and Claudia arrive at the nuclear facility and spot Joshua and the disguised MacPherson removing a container of anti-matter. When Artie spots the thimble on MacPherson's finger, he realizes who it is. MacPherson accuses Artie of being a terrorist, and Artie tells Claudia to remove the thimble. She does, revealing MacPherson, and he shoves Joshua over a balcony to cover his escape with the anti-matter
Myka realizes that Wells used Cavorite to reverse the gravity, and it can be triggered by an electrical charge. Pete uses the Tesla to short out the ceiling lamp, deactivating the Cavorite and dropping them to the floor. They call Artie, who has EMTs tend to Joshua's broken leg. He has Claudia run a check on H.G. Wells inventions matching the description of the vest. She turns up a file on the Imperceptor Vest, that allows the user to move so fast they become invisible. It requires a small, portable power source that didn't exist a hundred years ago, and Artie realizes she plans to use the anti-matter. Once the vest is active, Helena can use it to enter the Escher Vault at the warehouse. The vault is where the bronzed prisoners' personal belongings are kept, and MacPherson set up the whole thing to get everyone out of the warehouse while she returns there. Pete points out that if Claudia is innocent, then Leena must be the traitor.
At Leena's bed & breakfast, Mrs. Frederic confronts Leena and explains that Leena has been having blackouts. She looks into Leena's eyes and sees something, and then starts choking her. Once she passes out, a white pearl rolls out of Leena's ear. When Leena recovers consciousness, Mrs. Frederic explains that the Pearl of Wisdom allows someone to control the victim. Leena can now remember that she use the thimble to disguise herself as Claudia and frame her.
MacPherson and Helena open the Escher Vault and use the anti-matter to power the vest. When she comments on the beads he wears around his neck, MacPherson explains that they neutralize the poison Artie injected him with. Helena activates the vest and enters the vault, while MacPherson assures her that he's laid bobby traps throughout the warehouse in case Artie and the others catch up to them.
Artie and Claudia make their way through the warehouse, and Artie explains that the Escher Vault is a maze of moving floors. As they proceed, Artie smells a chameleon mine and sets it off. They go back but Claudia spots a Dante's Death Mask in the wrong place. It's a flame trap activated when they passed by earlier. Now they have no choice but to climb up the shelves. Pete and Myka arrive at the office and Artie gives them specific directions. They decide to use the zip line instead, passing over Artie and Claudia.
Helena emerges from the vault and says she has what they want, and left the vest behind when it ran out of power. She suggests they kiss first, and then handcuffs MacPherson. She removes the thimble and reveals she's actually Helena. The others arrive and MacPherson offers to tell Artie the plan in return for his freedom. Helena emerges and cuts off the beads, and then flees. The dying MacPherson explains that he put the Phoenix in Artie's pocket so he'd die and realize there's nothing. Artie explains that he experienced a white light and hope, and MacPherson realizes he's been wrong all along. He apologizes before collapsing into a pile of dust.
Later, the team meets at the bed & breakfast and Artie insists they need to recover. Leena is upset that Claudia is blaming her for framing her. Artie finally gives in and gives Claudia a Farnsworth: the original that belonged to its creator, Philo Farnsworth. She thanks him for h is faith in her and gives him a hug, and he gruffly slips away.
Mrs. Frederic meets with Artie to enter the Escher Vault and see what Helena took. Using special goggles, they navigate the ever-shifting three-dimensional maze and discover that Helena took her compact, locket, and ring.
Helena goes to a café and begins working on some schematics. When a man asks her what she's doing, Helena says it's something she's been thinking about for a very long time.
