Vendetta - Recap

<-- Previous EpisodeNext Episode -->
In Washington, Secret Service head Daniel Dickinson returns to his office and turns on his computer. A man enters his office and flexes a chain between his hands, and Dickinson collapses to the floor in agony as his bones split apart. The killer then goes to Dickinson's computer and prints out the files on Artie, Pete, and Myka.

At the warehouse, Pete is complaining about losing at bowling to Myka. Leena complains that the shelves are falling apart and Claudia won't go to the hardware store to get brackets because Todd works there, and he broke up with Claudia. The alarm goes off while Kate calls Pete on his cellphone. She tells him that Dickinson is dead, at the same time that Artie confirms it on the computer and Myka receives a call from one of her contacts.

At the morgue, Kate shows them Dickinson's body and explains that every bone in his body was pulled apart. Artie asks her to leave and then admits that it's his fault that Dickinson is dead. He explains that the artifact responsible was Torquemada's chain, which inflicts the agonies of the rack on the victim. Artie then reminds them that he dealt with the Soviets in the 70s, and admits that he traded what he thought were antiques in return for freedom for gulag prisoners. He was unaware that they had supernatural powers until his contact informed him. After that, Artie turned himself in out of guilt and Mrs. Frederic recruited him.

At the funeral, Artie talks with an old NSA friend, Joe Sweetwood. Myka goes for a walk to be alone and Helena Wells approaches her. She explains that Torquemada's chain was on Warehouse 12's most-wanted list, and Myka warns her that Artie is still opposed to her returning as an agent. Helena reminds Myka that she saved Claudia's life, but Myka wants to know why she was bronzed and what her motives were. Helena explains that she asked to be bronzed. After her daughter Christina was brutally murdered, she sought out artifacts to bring her back. She became so obsessed that she eventually cost an agent his life and asked the Regents to bronze her so she could "travel" into the future. Touched, Helena agrees to talk to Artie and Helena tells her the hotel where she's staying. Meanwhile, Artie talks to Sweetwood, unaware that the killer is taking photos of them.

Leena tricks Claudia into coming to the B&B where Todd is meeting. Todd admits that he misses Claudia and still wants to be friends. She warns him that she prefers dealing in black and whites, but agrees to try being friends. Before they can talk further, Todd gets a call and hurries away, apologizing. When Leena returns, she warns that Claudia will need to be patient with men since they're out of touch with their emotions, but Claudia isn't convinced.

At NSA headquarters, the killer comes into Greenwood's office and uses a piece of driftwood to freeze him to death. Kate calls in Artie and the agents, and they confirm the temperature is normal. He privately tells Myka that a wooden piece of the Titanic was imbued with the power to generate cold, and figures the killer wanted a file on Sweetwood's computer. Kate figures she's better off not seeing them hacking NSA files and leaves. Artie confirms that the last file accessed contains a list of his relatives, the people who he got released from the gulags in the 1970s. Pete checks the security feed and finds footage of Helena entering the building. Myka admits that she met Helena earlier and suggests that the woman is trying to recover the chain to prove herself. Artie is furious that Myka has been keeping secrets from him, but Pete intervenes and suggests they use Myka's contact with Helena to go to her hotel and find her.

Claudia goes to the hardware store to meet with Todd, and spots him talking to someone in a side alley. Todd is talking about Claudia and how she works at an IRS warehouse. She takes a photo of them and quickly leaves, but not before Todd notices her.

The trio barges into Helena's room but she's already left. She calls them on the phone and offers to trade information about what the killer left on Sweetwood's corpse. Artie initially refuses, but Myka warns that they need leads. He agrees and Helena directs him to a King of Hearts. Artie explains that his Russian contact, Alexander, used it to make contact with him. They figure that Alexander is going after Artie's family in Russia. Artie hangs up on Helena and explains that when he turned himself in, Alexander became a liability and was sent to prison. He heads for Moscow and the agents insist on going with hm.

In Moscow, Artie goes to the Weisfelt Institute where one of his relatives teaches music. Artie refuses to approach his family for fear of endangering them. Instead he wants to find Alexander. He warns them that if the Russians capture him, they'll treat him as a spy for his activities in the 70s. They go to the safe house Alexander used for meetings, figuring they're one step ahead of him. However, they hear Alexander on the roof. Something falls down the chimney: a croquet ball. Artie realizes what it is and tells them to duck as a second ball falls down and hits the first. He explains that the croquet balls belonged to Charles II, a sore loser. The croquet ball bounces around the room, smashing everything in its path.

Artie warns that the ball can't be stopped, and will only run down eventually. He gets to the door and goes after Alexander, while Pete tells Myka to go to the refrigerator. He then hits the croquet ball toward her and she closes the door, trapping it inside. They run outside after Artie but discover that Alexander has captured him and left his hat behind.

Claudia is dozing at the warehouse office when Pete and Myka call in to find out what she's discovered about Alexander. She admits that she needs more info and asks to talk to Artie, but Myka refuses to worry her and says Artie went to get food. Once they sign off, Claudia tells Leena that all of Todd's records start six months ago when he arrived in Univille. She wonders if he's been sent to infiltrate the warehouse. Leena tells her to let Artie handle it, but Claudia quickly lures her away and then calls Todd. She asks him about the football team from the high school he supposedly attended, into but he gets a gun first.

On the street in Moscow, Pete and Myka discuss what to do. He spots someone following them and circles behind, and discovers that it's Helena. He demands answers, and Helena admits she planted a transmitter on Myka's pocket. Pete is glad to hear that and asks if she put one on Artie's pocket. She didn't, and Myka returns to ask for her help. Helena confirms that Alexander died thirteen years ago.

The killer takes Artie to an abandoned factory and chains him to pillars. He then unveils Artie... who has no idea who his young captor is at first. He finally realizes that it's Ivan, Alexander's son. Ivan explains that he never knew his father because Artie's actions put Alexander in prison.

Helena and Myka go through Artie's bag but it's Pete who finds Artie's glasses case. Claudia rigged them with a transmitter so Artie could find them. He lost the tracking device, but they can use Helena's transmitter to find his glasses.

Todd and Claudia confront each other in the park. After stumbling through a conversation, they both finally draw guns and demand to know what the other knows. Todd finally admits that he's in the witness protection program because he works as an IT and found out too much about a mobster's computer files. The authorities put him in Univille, and the man with the gun in the alleyway was his handler. Todd admits that he loves her, but Claudia is more impressed that he's a techie and they kiss.

The trio follows the signal to the factory and finds Artie's glasses, and starts searching.

Ivan prepares to use Torquemada's chain on Artie. When Artie warns him that it will strip him of his humanity, Ivan admits that will make his job easier.

As they search, Pete and Helena open a door and alert Ivan. He knocks out Artie and then takes the Titanic driftwood with him. Meanwhile, Helena goes one direction and the agents go another. Helena finds Artie and tries to free him, but Ivan uses the driftwood on her and forces Artie to watch as she slowly freezes to death.

Pete and Myka come to a locked gate and use a reflex hammer from Artie's bag of artifacts to break it down.

Artie claims that Helena means nothing to him, but Ivan notes that she tried to save his life. As Helena freezes, Artie wonders when Ivan will stop killing innocents. Helena manages to fire a shot, freeing Artie and giving him the chance to knock out Ivan. He then uses the driftwood artifact to undo the freezing spell, saving Helena's life. Ivan recovers and prepares to use the chain, but Pete and Myka arrive in time to stun him unconscious.

Later, Claudia is making out with Todd at the B&B and admiring his hacker skills. However, he explains that his handler is taking him away because his false identity has been compromised. As Todd goes, Claudia promises to find him if he survives testifying against the mobster.

At the warehouse, Myka realizes that Artie has turned Helena over to the Regents. One of the Regents, Adwin Kosan, comes in and says that he is in charge of making the final decision of who becomes a Warehouse agent. Artie says they have to trust he'll make the right choice, and Kosan informs them that Helena has been restored to agent status. He notes that Myka filed a report that helped convince them. As Kosan leaves, Pete and Myka congratulate Helena, who thanks Myka for her help. Artie storms out and Myka goes after him. He warns her that Helena can't be trusted, and by the time everyone else realizes that, it will be too late.
