Recap

Steve packs up and prepares to leave his room in the dead agents’ vault, and looks at a photo of himself and Claudia together. She comes in and comments on the photo, and then they leave together for a briefing at Artie’s office. Pete is complaining about the hot water when Artie interrupts to give them the real briefing. He informs them that they’ve had a ping from Devil’s Lake, North Dakota. A cleaning lady showed all the symptoms of a spider bite but no bite itself. Steve identifies the symptoms immediately and explains that the artifact responsible is a small wooden token that Sykes stole. He says that Sykes stored them in crates and moved them after Steve died. They figure that Marcus took them to Devil’s Lake and they check the residences that the housecleaner went to. One was the Mazzanti residence, and a Mazzanti was the original illustrator of Collodi’s Pinnochio. Artie figures that it’s a safehouse for Sykes’ artifacts and sends Pete and Myka to round them up...

Episode Quotes
Pete: Also, I used the rest of the peppermint body scrub.
Steve: Oh, that was mine.
Pete: Well, you weren't using it.
Steve: That's because I was dead.
Pete: Ah, you're going to play that card.

Myka: Pete, you could have just picked the lock.
Pete: Well, better safe than sorry, Mykes. Plus I love doing that.

Artie: Okay, what's next?
Leena: Uh, Devil's Lake Golf and Country Club.
Artie: A Jew and a black woman go to a fancy country club. All we need is a priest and a horse and we can do the whole joke.

Pete: Okay, look, kid. You don't know what you're holding there.
Jesse Ashton: Really? I think it's a magic pipe that lets me control the weather.
Pete: Okay, maybe you do.

Leena: Artie, your anger was stemming from something very...
Artie: Nothing, what? I'm always angry. That's my raison d'etre. Ask anybody. Grumble grumble. Let's go.

Cultural References
Steve: Pollyanna.

Pollyanna is the title character in a 1913 novel by Eleanor H. Porter. The name has become associated with anyone who is indefatigably optimistic.

Roy: Dr. Oz says tomatoes are a superfood.

Dr. Mehmet Oz is a doctor who appears regularly on TV with health tips.

Claudia: No, I mean this pawn shop doesn't look anything like the one on that TV show.

Pawn Stars is a History Channel reality show about the Harrison family, who own a pawn shop in Las Vegas.

Claudia: Who ya gonna call?

The catchphrase of the Ghostbusters in the 1984 movie is "Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!" 'The line also features heavily in the lyrics of the movie's theme song.

Pete: The kid's running a one-man Occupy Devil's Lake.

The Occupy moment that began in 2011 protested the rampant unregulated financial fraud in the US, focusing specifically on Wall Street and major banks in ruining the global economy through financial manipulations and foreclosing on home-owners. Local Occupy groups named themselves after the cities they were in. Ergo, Pete's reference of Occupy Devil's Lake refers to the targeting of a foreclosing bank in Devil's Lake, North Dakota.

Claudia: No sign of the hollow man yet?

The Hollow Man was a 2000 movie about a scientist turning himself invisible but suffering mental derangement as a side effect and going on a rampage.

Rachel: Do you watch Revenge?

Revenge is an ABC series about a young woman seeking revenge on the people who framed her father for murder.

Pete: Man, I feel just like Helen Hunt in Twister.

Twister is a 1996 movie with Helen Hunt as meteorologist Jo Harding, chasing tornadoes with her ex-husband.

Steven: What about Woodstock and Tweety and all their friends?

Woodstock and Tweety are both small yellow cartoon birds. Woodstock is found in the Peanuts comic strip, while Tweey is a Warner Brothers creation.

Claudia: This is karma for playing too much Angry Birds.

Angry Birds is an Apple game app where players launch birds at pigs.

Pete: Let's never mention Dr. Evil's name again, shall we?

Dr. Evil is the short bald villain in the Austin Powers movies, played by Mike Myers and based on Donald Pleasence's portrayal of Blofled in the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice.
