When a white teen-aged girl and an African-American teen-aged boy coincidentally vanish on the same night, Jack attempts to counteract Vivian's prediction that the media and FBI will focus on the white girl's case.
Despite Jack's attempts to generate press on both cases, Emily Grant's disappearance garners all of the media attention and, as a result, gets a steady stream of leads. As Vivian anticipates, Van Doran orders Jack to allocate more resources to follow up on the leads on Emily's case, which means diverting FBI attention away from the Darnell Williams investigation. Well aware of the turn of events, Darnell's mother, Audrey pointedly asks Jack who is running the investigations: the FBI or the media?
