Breck's powerful father counters that his reformed son was likely kidnapped in the shelter's dicey neighborhood by someone seeking a hefty ransom. After learning that Breck's father cut him off financially following his arrest, the agents also wonder what Breck did to obtain thousands of dollars from "anonymous donors" to keep the shelter open.

Suspects include the ice rink's manager, who used a different surname to hide the fact that he had served time for raping a teen-aged girl, the anonymous person who left a decapitated rat inside Kelly's locker, and the 40-something man with whom she had an emotional conversation in a parking lot two weeks ago. Meanwhile, though Jack is excited to introduce Anne to his younger daughter, Kate, Anne is anxious about how Kate will respond to meeting her.

As the team searches for a recent widower and his two teen-aged kids, they attempt to determine who is responsible for the gunfire which left the missing family's living room splattered with blood.

The Jordano family was last seen through their partially opened front door by neighbors who report that the visibly nervous Ted declined to let his son, Dylan, join them on their scheduled outing to a baseball game. After learning that Ted, a new gun owner, remains despondent over his wife's death and his mounting debt, the team considers that it may be he who is responsible for the bloodshed and disappearance. Under investigation as well are a loan shark who has been hounding Ted and his daughter's delinquent boyfriend. The potential suspects and scenarios for this case seem endless to the team members who realize that with three missing people there are three times as many reasons for them to have vanished.

Before and after the shooting, Jack and the team delve into Alan's background and possible motives while also looking into the relevance of Jennifer's mysterious visit to a prisoner the night before she vanished.

The team searches for a missing 5-year-old boy and his abductor when they're tipped off about the abduction by the kidnapper's 12-year-old son. At the FBI offices, Bryan remains traumatized after barely escaping his enraged father, Randall, who foiled Bryan's attempt to sneak the 5-year-old Todd out of the house. Bryan reveals that Randall brought Todd home a week ago, explaining that he was watching Todd for a few days for a friend. While Samantha attempts to get Bryan to disclose more about Randall without pushing him over the edge, the rest of the team searches for Todd and his kidnapper while also trying to uncover Todd's true identity.

Elena goes undercover as an exotic dancer in an attempt to find a stripper who disappeared from the same club, while Danny goes undercover as one of her customers.The team tries to find Cindy Peterson, a missing wife and mother who recently took the job as a stripper to help pay the family's mounting debt. Since the club is the common link between Cindy and a recently murdered fellow dancer, Jack decides to assign Elena and Danny to go undercover to get some answers. Meanwhile, Jack and Anne deal with the professional and personal ramifications of her pregnancy.
