The Abyss - Recap

The episode starts off with Virgil and his friend, Hosep, running through the Forrest for their lives trying to get away from the cannibals. Hosep then gets his foot trapped in a trap and the cannibals come and they take Hosep away. Virgil follows the cannibals' back to their camps and see that they are cooking his friend Hosep. And a little after he is captured.

Gabrielle and Xena are in their boat looking for Virgil and Hosep, and they have a talk about the boy Gabrielle killed. Gabrielle is mourning over his death and questions her warrior abilities - resulting in Xena telling her she should of never let Gabrielle go down this path with her. Gabrielle answers with she would do anything with Xena. Xena soon then tells Gabrielle that they are being watched, and cannibals come from out the water and attacks Xena and Gabrielle.

Xena and Gabrielle quickly knock out the cannibals and then gets out the water and battle the cannibals in the Forrest. Gabrielle is soon stabbed in the side (when she has another vision about the boy she killed) and is picked up by a cannibal and thrown in the water. Xena knocks out the cannibal and quickly dives in after Gabrielle. They experience a few problems, but soon Xena gets Gabrielle and brings her in a cave.

Back at the cannibals' camp, Virgil is in the prison cell with a old, skinny man named Rubio. Who refuses to eat because that's what the Cannibals want. Virgil, not knowing this at first, says they are treating him good because he's a friend of Xena's. Rubio laughs and told him why they want him to eat all the food. Virgil quickly spits the food out.

In the cave, Gabrielle isn't looking so good. She starts to imagine some stuff. And thinks she's going to die, and she tells Xena that she wants to be buried with her, and her family, in Amphipolis.

At night, Xena and Gabrielle leaves the cave and encounters the Cannibals. Xena lays Gabrielle down on the ground for the Cannibals to take her, and Xena follows them back to their camp. The cannibals take Gabrielle to the prison that Virgil is in and he quickly grabs Gabrielle and puts a rug on her to warm her up. Soon after, the cannibals come back in the prison and makes Gabrielle drink some type of liquid while they do a ritual to heal Gabrielle's wound.

Gabrielle, in Virgil's arms, starts talking to Virgil. Gabrielle is starting to regain her strength back, also. The cannibals invade the prison again and take Gabrielle. They tie Gabrielle up on a stick, and cover her in this type of nasty-looking liquid. Xena soon come to the rescue and battles the cannibals.

Gabrielle, Virgil, Rubio, and Xena take the horses and escape. Xena tells Gabrielle and Virgil of her plan, and tells Rubio to leave and take the horses. Xena goes back to fight the cannibals and lead them back to her trap. Meanwhile, Gabrielle and Virgil encounter some cannibals of their own and wastes no time in taking them out. Xena battles the cannibals and succeeds in taking them all out when her plan (that she came up with while the others were still in the cannibals' prison) works!
