Will Krudski arrives at Rawley Academy, a well-known and highly regarded boarding school, as the summer session nears. There he meets his roommate, Scout Calhoun, and the Dean's son, Hamilton Fleming. Later, Scout and Will's newly formed relationship is tested when Scout tells Will that he cheated on the entrance exam. Meanwhile, Scout meets a beautiful girl named Bella.

Will's new life at Rawley Academy is harder than he expected, especially when he finds it hard to mix his old "wrong side of the tracks" life with his new, better life. Scout and Bella's platonic relationship progresses until Scout gets jealous after meeting Sean, an admirer of Bella's and long time friend of Will's. The meeting between Scout and Sean quickly escalates into a bloody confrontation. Meanwhile, Hamilton and Jake find common ground and decide to be friends despite past awkward moments.

A new student, Paige Bennett, rocks the Rawley Girls Academy. Soon after her arrival, Paige actively pursues Scout, whom she has known since they both were younger. Meanwhile, Will gets himself in trouble with Finn after a brief run-in with an older student, Ryder; Hamilton and Jake compete against each other to win the affection of a girl.

Parent's Weekend is approaching, distracting the students from the annual Rawley Regatta, an important crew competition. Scout is eager to have his father meet Bella, while Will tries to connect with his. However, Senator Calhoun may be connected to Bella as well as Will. Meanwhile, Jake decides to hide her true self from her self-centered mother.

Meanwhile, Hamilton and Jake have their first date, which ends up with role-reversals when Jake wears a dress on the date.

But on the way, the gang runs into several problems, including car trouble and clashing tempers. Once her mother is found, secrets about Bella's past are uncovered. Meanwhile, Jake's true identity is finally revealed.
