Joey is gloating over his victory, when his stomach begins to groan. He and Tristan are so hungry that they sniff out some fish cooking on a camp fire. They devour them, and a guy who has been swimming near by jumps onto the scene and accuses them of stealing his meal. He introduces himself as Mako, the sea duelist. He lures them into a false sense of security by telling them of how when he was little, his father disappeared on a ship during a storm at sea. He noticed that the lifebaot was gone too, so he thinks his father is still alive. He challenges Yugi to a duel.
Yugi accepts, and Mako shows him the arena which is 1/2 land and 1/2 water. Yugi and Mako wager 2 starchips and it begins. Mako summons a giant yellow squid, Fiend Kraken, but it's underwater and Yugi can't see it. Yugi plays Horn Imp in attack mode, but Fiend Kraken destorys it. Then Yugi uses Feral Imp with Horm Of Unicorn, believing that the electricity will beat it. Mako uses his Jellyfish card to absorb the electricity, and Feral Imp is destroyed by Fiend Kraken too. Nent, Yugi unwisely plays Silver Fang powring it up with Full Moon. Tihs is a mistake. The moon contorls the tides, so the high tide is used to his advantage when Mako summons Kairu-Shin. Silver Fang is gone along with all the land except a teensy bit. Yugi plays Giant Rock Soldier in defense mode, but it hardly fits on the little piece. Mako summons Great White to lead the other monsters, who will kill Yugi's monster next turn. Yugi has a brilliant plan. He uses his Rock Soldier and destroys the moon. This makes the tide recede and the entire field is land. Yugi sends out Curse Of Dragon, who destroys all of Mako's sea creatures. Mako gives up his starchips to Yugi, and Yugi wishes Mako good luck on finding his father.

First aired: Nov/17/2001
Guest star: Ted Lewis (Croquet), Eric Stuart (Kemo)

Its now been six hours since the tournament started. Yugi has 5 star chips, and Joey has 2. At Pegasus's castle, a small, masked kid is escaping a cell. When a guard realizes, he tells Pegasus about him. Pegasus says to watch Yugi, who he believes the masked kid will want to duel. Meanwhile, while walking, Yugi and company encounter a guard keeping a kid hostage. Tristan, with his odd attitude, attempts to wrestle the guard down, but the guard explains that the kid, who has no star chips left, and must leave the island. After following him to the boat, where Weevil and other eliminated members are, he explains to Yugi that his star chips were stolen by a masked kid. Yugi returns to the scene of the crime, and finds the masked kid. He is the same kid who escaped the castle where he was held prisoner. He challenges Yugi. After using the Millenium Puzzle to become Yami Yugi again, he sends out a Winged Dragon, while the kid sends out a Man Eating Plant. After Yugi defeats it, the kid identifies himself as Kaiba's brother, Mokuba. He want to defeat Yugi, because Kaiba left town after Yugi's victory against him, and he wants revenge. But when he starts losing, he steals Yami Yugi's star chips instead, and runs away. Meanwhile, on the mainland, Kaiba is sitting in his office, when two of Pegasus's guards come in, and try to kill him. But Kaiba escapes by jumping out of his window. After chasing down Mokuba, and convincing him to work together to defeat Pagasus, who is the real enemy, they return to the boat with the kids stolen star chips, but it has already left. Then, the guard nearby steals the star chips of both Yugi and Mokuba, and throws them into the water. Now with drastically less chips each, Mokuba is once again captured. Yugi requests another duel with him later, and the guard agrees to bring him later. When they arrive at the holographic chamber, Mokuba is there with the guard. But so is... Kaiba! He challenges Yugi to a duel, and says "This time, you don't stand a ghost of a chance".

9 :01x09 - Duel With A Ghoul (2)

First aired: Nov/24/2001
Guest star: Ted Lewis (Croquet), Eric Stuart (Kemo)

Kaiba? Impossible! How could he have gotten there? The guard holding Mokuba captive claimed that two witnesses saw Kaiba jump to his death. This had to be Kaiba's ghost! But it wasn't. Kaiba was at that very moment lurking around his neighborhood. He had managed to grab onto a small cliff while falling from his office window. He found his secret office door, and went inside. After using his own computer to attempt to crack the Duelist Kingdom's security, he found that Yugi's files were encrypted. But, he wouldn't give up. He knew that if Yugi won, his company would be safe from Pegasus. But, after taking a look through Yugi's deck through his computer, the computer informs him that he somehow lost Exodia, which Kaiba thought of as Yugi's best hope of winning. Back at the duel, the battle starts out the same as Yugi's first battle with Kaiba. Yugi's Dark Magician attacks and does some damage to "Kaiba". But then, "Kaiba" sends out a Blue Eyes White Dragon. Because Kaiba had the only three remaining Blue Eyes White Dragons with him, this had to be Kaiba's deck. Mokuba however, insists that this isn't Kaiba. But the real Kaiba, back in his secret lab, hacked into the satalite that transfers data between the Duelist Kingdom and other locations. He altered its course to crash into the mainframe of Pagasus's Duelist Kingdom Computer. The system swtiched to the backup system automatically, but it lost the extra security over Yugi's files. Kaiba found where Yugi was dueling, but his computer couldn't get in. However, he inputted a virus, and overloaded the door. The next blocade was a password, but Kaiba, who had a feeling that Pegasus's arrogance would be involved, guessed the password correctly: PEGASUS. Meanwhile, Yugi managed to cover his Dark Magician in one of four hats. Confusing "Kaiba", Yugi explains that if he guesses the wrong hat, his something bad will happen to him. There is a 25% chance that "Kaiba" will guess it right. Will he? For that matter, who is this person impersonating Kaiba's ghost?

10 :01x10 - Give Up The Ghost (3)

First aired: Dec/01/2001

Kaiba guesses the wrong hat twice, and Yugi's Dark Magician defeats the Blue Eyes White Dragon. But, "Kaiba" sends out another Blue Eyes White Dragon. All looks bad, until Kaiba, who is still sneaking around, realizes that Yugi is dueling an imposter of him. Kaiba uploads a virus into "Kaiba"'s Blue Eyes White Dragon, which makes its attack power lower, but Pegasus realizes that Kaiba is hacking into the system, and (while getting mad after realizing Kaiba isn't dead), stops the virus through his computer. Kaiba gets really mad, and his anger destroys the Blue Eyes White Dragon somehow. "Kaiba" reveals himself as Kaiba's evil side, who was rejected by Kaiba after Yugi defeated him. He stalls Yugi for a while, and Yugi manages to get three monsters out, including a Mystic Elf, who he strengthans with a magic card for extra attack and defense points. But the evil side draws the final Blue Eyes White Dragon, which will kill Yugi no matter how many monsters he has out. But Yugi plays a trap card which reflects the dragon's atatck. But the evil side dissolves the attack with a magic card. Yugi plays another magic card, which allows him to control a Blue Eyes White Dragon. His Dragon is tougher then the evil side's, because his elf transfered its power to the dragon. The evil side is defeated, and vanishes. All seems good, but Kaiba is still on the run, and the guard has taken Mokuba away once again. And Pegasus begins to laugh in his office. He has something else up his sleeve...

11 :01x11 - The Dueling Monkey (1)

First aired: Dec/15/2001

Yugi and his friends have given up their search for Mokuba, and they go to find more people to duel. However, Mai is doing very well for herself. She has won 8 star chips, and when Rex Raptor returns to duel her, he has only 5 star chips. And, because of what Mai did on the boat (see Journey to the Duelist Kingdom), he wants a rematch. But, Mai is very mad, because she lost to Joey (see First Duel), and he is a rookie to Duel Monsters. She decides to agree to the duel, but only if Rex beats Joey first. Rex agrees at the thought of easy star chips. When Joey finds Rex and Mai, he decides to accept their challenge. But Mai says he can't have nay help from Yugi. He will have to beat Rex alone. The holographic projector is raised, and the match starts with Joey's Baby Dragon vs. Rex's Two Headed King-Rex. Rex calls Joey a "dueling monkey", because he has no idea what he is doing. This makes Joey really mad, and makes him want to win even more. The King-Rex beats the Baby Dragon easily. Yugi also leaves the area to check something out he sees nearby. Joey sends out a lion creature, and then he sends out an Axe Raider, which has a power bonus, and destroys the King-Rex. But Rex's next creature is very powerful, and he kills the Axe Raider. Meanwhile, Yugi and Tristan are talking about Joey. Tristan wants Yugi to help Joey, but Yugi says that they have to believe in him. Yugi reminds Tristan about Joey's sister, and how he needs to be able to win on his own. Back at the duel, Joey sends out his Time Wizard, and this brings memories back to Mai. The Time Wizard was what beat Mai, but she thinks that he can't use it without Yugi's guidance. After Rex defeats an ogre creature, Joey then sends out a Flame Swordsman, with the Time Wizard still in play. Mai sees Joey's strategy, and tries to warn Rex, but he ignores her. Fire is strong against dinosaur cards, and his Flame Swrodsman and his new Swamp Battleguard fight through Rex's deck like a hot knife through butter. But, Rex sends out a Sperpent-Knight Dragon, a promotional card, given to people who make it to the final round of regional tournaments. It wipes out Joey's monsters. Joey then draws a card Tristan gave him, and Joey enters a flashback to when Joey and Tristan were in a gang, and fighting rivals. Joey realizes Tristan is a true friend, and he looks down at his friedns, who have come back, and he sends out the card. Because Trsitan's card is related to one of Joey's cards, they look out for each other, like best friends, and deflects Rex's attacks. But, Rex sends out a shadowed creature, and tells Joey to prepare to be wiped out.

12 :01x12 - Trial By Red Eyes (2)

First aired: Jan/19/2002

Rex sent out a card, and Joey beat it right away with his green and red team. Rex, in anger, sent out the Red Eyes Black Dragon, a card only a bit less powerful then the powerful Blue Eyes White Dragon. He kills Joey's red and green monsters. Yugi says he knows what to do, but he can't tell Joey, because he can't give him advice, due to the rules of this duel. Joey begins to falter, but after support from his friends, he puts down a card. Mai tries to force Rex to do better, but Rex gets mad, and propses a bet: if Joey wins, he gets Rex's Red Eyes Black Dragon, and if Rex wins, he gets Joey's Time Wizard. Mai gets mad, because Rex is breaking their deal, but Joey agrees. He sends out his Time Wizard, and attacks. The Time Wizard attacks by spinning a want roulette, and if it lands on a time marking, it drives back time. The roulette spins, and it lands on a time marking barely. The duel is driven back, his Red Eyes Black Dragon is fossilized from the millions of years the Time Wizard. When Rex tries to attack, his Dragon falls apart. Joey won by himself! Rex loses his star chips and his Red Eyes Black Dragon to Joey. After Tristan and Joey get into a fight (read the quotes) to show (in a bizarre way) how they are good friends, it has become night on the Duelist Kingdom. One day of dueling has passed. Yugi and company are walking through some of the woods on the island. They camp out, and start telling ghost stories (more like food stories). Joey tries to eat some poisonous mushrooms, but he is destracted by Mai, who comes up, and says that she would give them food if they did chores for her. While Yugi, Joey, and Tristan are getting wood and water, Tea takes a shower in a nearby shower that just happens to be there (strange isn't it). Mai is outside, and tells her to turn her back on her friends. But Tea refuses. Mai then expresses her opinion about males, that they are only good for chores. The five of them eat dinner, and Mai thinks that she iwll be able to get her final star chips during the next day, and be allowed into the Duelist Castle, where Pegasus is. Mai leaves to do something. When they hear rustling in the bushes, they investigate, and find Bakura, the kid Tea has been seeing around on the boat, and they talk about their favorite cards. Bakura reveals his favorite card as the Change of Heart card. They all put their favorite cards into Yugi's deck, as if they were all dueling together. Bakura challenges Yugi to a duel that has nothing to do with star chips. But, Bakura reaveals himself as the third Millenium Duelist, along with Yugi and Pegasus. Yugi has the puzzle, Pegasus has the eye, and Baccura has the ring. Bakura takes them all into the shadow world, where Pegasus frist took Yugi over that video tape before they went to the Duelist Kingdom. Yugi and his friends' souls are extracted, just like Yugi's grandfathers was. Bakura tries to steal the Millenium Puzzle from Yugi's body, but it alerts his soul to return. He transforms into Yami Yugi, and prepares to duel Bakura.

13 :01x13 - Evil Spirit of the Ring

First aired: Jan/26/2002

Yami Yugi and Bakura begin their duel, but Yugi realizes that this isn't Bakura at all! Its an evil spirit of some kind, that has the power of the Shadow Realm. Yami Yugi plays Tristan's favorite card, the Cyber Commander. When the card pops out, its a 6 inch tall Tristan. His soul has been trapped in the card. He is very confused and is almost immediately killed by the evil spirit's Magical Hat. Tristan goes to the card graveyard, and sees his name on a grave. Meanwhile, although Yami Yugi wants to avoid it, he knows he has to play the Flame Swordsman, Joey's favorite card. A 6 inch tall Joey pops out. Yami Yugi begins to tell Joey what's going on, and Joey attacks the Magical Hat, and defeats it. But, then he defeats a card that makes all of the cards in Yami Yugi's hand cards useless. He discards them, and draws more, including the Dark Magician, Yugi's favorite card. Yami Yugi first plays a card that allows Tristan (Cyber Commander) to return to the game. Then he plays the Dark Magician. A 6 inch Yugi pops up. They wonder that if Yugi is down there, who is dueling. This is Yugi's first real concious awareness that Yami Yugi does exist, and is actually another conciousness. But the evil Bakura sends out another card that makes the rest of Yami Yugi's hand useless. He draws again, and gets Tea's favorite card. He plays it, and a 6 inch Tea pops up. The evil spirit sends out the Man-Eater Bug. Joey defeats it, but at the same time, he is deated, and lands in the graveyard. He finds the Duel Monsters equivalent of the Grim Reaper and he starts to run away. Back at the duel, the three that are left continue to fight, and Yami Yugi manages to restore Joey, just in time. But the evil spirit sends out the Change of Heart cards, which has the real Bakura's soul trapped inside. The Change of Heart card is supposed to make then opponent's cards turn against each other, but Bakura wants to help them, and inhabits the evil spirit's cards. Yugi manages to defeat the evil spirit, and all is returned to normal. But, just as soon as they come back out of the shadow realm, the hear Mai scream, and the five of them run to see what has happened.

14 :01x14 - The Light at the End of the Tunnel (1)

First aired: Feb/02/2002
Guest star: David Moo (Panik)

Having heard somebody scream, Yugi, Joey, Tristan, Tea and Bakura run to see what has happened. Reaching a nearby duelling arena, they arrive just in time to see Mai's Harpy Lady Sisters be defeated in a duel. As Mai looks on in dismay, her opponent introduces himself as Panik, one of the Duellist Kingdom Eliminators.

As Panik claims all of Mai's star chips, Mai warns the group to get away before Panik gets to them as well, but Yugi stands strong, challenging Panik to a duel to win back Mai's star chips. Mai tries to persuade Yugi not to duel Panik, unsure as to whether he would be able to win, but Panik seems eager to duel Yugi.

He explains that Pegasus has offered a generous bounty to the eliminator who defeats Yugi, but warns Yugi that he would be willing to defeat him even if there wasn't any reward. As the two prepare to duel, Panik explains that there is more to duelling than strategy and Mai warns Yugi that Panik is a ruthless duellist, however Yugi is still determined to duel.

As Yugi steps up to the duelling arena, his feet are clasped into place to prevent him from moving and then bursts of flame shoot out, barely missing him. As Mai and the others doubt that Yugi can win, he still seems confident in his chances.

However as Panik plays his first card, the Castle of Dark Illusions, things don't seem to be going in Yugi's favour. As the Castle appears on the field, it smothers Panik's half of the arena in darkness, preventing Yugi from seeing which cards Panik has played. Panik explains that on this arena the only source of a field power bonus is the night.

An uneasy Yugi plays the Celtic Guardian in defence mode, but as Panik plays a monster onto the field he attacks Yugi's Guardian, destroying it. Realising that he can't attack monsters he can't see, Yugi looks for a way to destroy the Castle of Dark Illusions, but with the field power bonus it is nearly impenetrable.

As Yugi plays the Winged Dragon in defence mode, Panik senses that his opponent is beginning to fret as he plays a second monster into the darkness. However as Yugi's turn begins, he uses the Winged Dragon to attack the darkness, temporarily revealing the monsters that Panik has on the field. Even so, Panik attacks the Dragon, destroying it and reducing Yugi's life points to 1606.

Panik begins to taunt Yugi, telling him that he can't win as long as the Castle of Dark Illusions is still in play, but Yugi is unfazed and begins to laugh at Panik, telling him that he knows exactly how to win. Showing Panik the Sowrds of Revealing Light, he tells him that he will use it to stop his monsters and dispel the darkness. As Mai watches on, shocked at the amateurish mostake Yugi has made in announcing his strateg, Yugi warns Panik that he will defeat him in five turns.

As Yugi plays the Curse of Dragon in defence mode, he also plays a card face down, warning Panik that this card will make him see the light. Certain that the card is Yugi's Swords of Revealing Light, Panik summons the Reaper of the Cards to destroy Yugi's Magic card. However as the Reaper attacks, it is unable to finish the move as Yugi reveals that the card was not his Revealing Light but actually the Spell Binding Circle.

With the Reaper of the Cards caught within Yugi's trap he is free to play his Revealing Light whenever he wants. As Mai looks on, amazed at Yugi's strength in such tough conditions, Yugi decides the time has come to play the Swords of Revealing Light. Playing one card face down, Yugi activates the Swords, flooding Panik's side of the field in a bright light which not only reveals his monsters but prevents them from attacking. However while Yugi seems confident that he can keep his promise to defeat Panik within the next four turns, Panik also seems sure that victory will be his.

15 :01x15 - Winning Through Intimidation (2)

First aired: Feb/02/2002
Guest star: David Moo (Panik)

Yugi may have found a way to defeat Panik, but has he lost the plot by telling his opponent how he intends to defeat him?! As the Eliminator continues to build his army in the cover of darkness, Yugi must pull out all the stops if he hopes to win the duel.

16 :01x16 - The Scars of Defeat

First aired: Feb/09/2002

Maximillion Pegasus is having a transmission talk with Kaibacorp's executives who are wondering what happened with Mokuba and he tells them that everything is under control. After the transmission, Pegasus senses that Seto Kaiba is coming to Duelist Kingdom.

Near Duelist Kingdom, Seto Kaiba is arriving in his helicopter to rescue Mokuba and get back at the Kaibacorp executives who he knows sided with Pegasus.

At Yugi's campsite, while Joey, Tristan, and Tea were sleeping, Yugi and Bakura were talking about their Millennium Items and how they pointed to others.

Seto Kaiba lands his helicopter at their campspot with it's sound waking Joey, Tristan, and Tea up. Yugi returns Seto Kaiba his deck saying that he's watched over it after defeating the bad side of Kaiba episodes ago. Seto Kaiba says that he's here to rescue Mokuba and heads to Pegasus's castle.

As Kaiba starts to head there, Joey stops him and challenges him to a duel. Seto Kaiba says that they'll use his latest invention, the Duel Disk, that'll display the monsters that they play. As Seto Kaiba explains how the Duel Disk works, he plays Battle Ox (1700/1000) in Attack Mode. Joey plays Armored Lizard (1500/1200) and when Battle Ox attack, Joey says that his monster withstood the Battle Ox's attack...he was wrong as Armored Lizard is destroyed and Joey's Lifepoints reduce. Joey then plays Flame Swordsman (1800/1600) and Joey has him attack, but Yugi says that Battle Ox has a resistant to Fire-classed Monsters (I think it's the Battle Ox's armor) as Flame Swordsman's blade breaks and it disappears with a deduction from Joey Lifepoints. Kaiba plays Polymerization to merge Battle Ox with Mystic Horseman (1300/1550) to form Rabid Horseman (2000/1700). As turns pass, Joey's Lifepoints deduct as Rabid Horseman destroys one by one Swamp Battleguard (1800/1500), Axe Raider (1700/1150), Battle Steer (1800/1300), Garoozis (1800/1500), Rock Ogre Grotto #1 (800/1200) in Defense Mode, and Rude Kaiser (1800/1600). Joey starts to lose faith until he draws and plays Red Eyes Black Dragon (2400/2000) and destroys Rabid Horseman deducting Kaiba's Lifepoints. Kaiba says that Joey has a powerful dragon, but it pales in comparison to his strongest dragon...the Blue Eyes White Dragon (3000/2500) which he summons and destroys Red Eyes Black Dragon and the rest of Joey's Lifepoints.

As Joey is on the ground, Kaiba tells him to stay down like the defeated dog that he is and starts to head to Pegasus' castle. The others tell Seto Kaiba that they weren't happy with him defeating Joey like that. Seto Kaiba tells them that they don't know Pegasus like he knows them.

(Flashback sequence)
He tells them how he was invited to a Duel Monsters Tournament (it didn't involve the dueling stadiums at Duelist Kingdom) where he sees Maximillion Pegasus facing off against a hot shot Duelist named Bandit Keith. Before Pegasus makes his next turn, he writes something on a peice of paper and calls a kid named Sam down from the audience behind Kaiba. Bandit Keith tells him that asking for help is illegal, but Pegasus tells Bandit Keith that he doesn't need help to win and that a kid could defeat him. He gives the paper to Sam and Bandit Keith makes his next move playing Garnecia Elefantis (2400/2000) and kid says that when Bandit Keith played that card, he plays a elephant monster (the name wasn't given, but it was weaker than Bandit Keith's monster) in Attack Mode and Bandit Keith loses. Bandit Keith sees the paper and reads the name of the card he was going to play and how to defeat it as Sam was declared the winner.

After the story, Seto Kaiba starts off to Pegasus's castle unaware that Pegasus already knows that he's on the island.

He begs Kaiba to call off the dragon, and Kaiba says that Joey has to obey him like a dog. All of a sudden, Joey is a dog! Then light.... its morning on the Duelist Kingdom. Joey wakes up from his dream. His confidence is obviously still dmaged from his loss to Kaiba during the last night. Tea says that Mai, who was camping with them for the time, had left to continue dueling, but she left a note for Yugi that said "I owe you eight star chips". Little the five of them know that they are being spied on by three weirdos, and big strong dumb one, a red haired one, and a kid who looks like a zombie. They run back to their master, who is revealed to be Bandit Keith, the man who lost to the kid in the match Kaiba mentioned last episode. They inform him about Joey, and how arrogant he is. Bandit Keith takes his cronies to a cave, where Keith informs them about a hidden arena. He tells Bonz (the zombie kid) to lure Joey into the cave to duel. He also gives bones lots of new cards to put in his deck. Meanwhile, Joey is out at a waterfall washing his face, when the big strong guy comes up and knocks him out. He wakes up in the cave, attached to a holographic arena. He never agrees to the duel, but Bones tells him that if he runs away, he'll be just a little dog. Remembering his dream, he accepts the challenge. In order to psyche Joey out, Bonz calls this arena "The Arena of Lost Souls", and he says if he loses, he'll die and become a zombie. Bandit Keith is hanging out behind Bonz, telling him what to do. The cave arena will give zombie cards a field power bonus, but the cards Bandit Keith gave Bones weren't zombie cards at all, just regular ones. Much to Bonz's dismay, Joey's Axe Raider kills his first three creatures. Bonz thinks that Keith wants him to lost purposely for some reason. Meanwhile, Yugi, Tea, Tristan, and Bakura are looking for Joey. They find the cave, and go inside. Inside are coffins and skulls, obviously a result of Pegasus's sick sense of humor. Back at the duel, Bonz draws a card that allows all of his dead cards to return as zombies. Now he realizes that Bandit Keith was not trying to steer him wrong at all. He plays the card, and all three now zombie field power bonused dead duel monsters gang up on Joey's Axe Raider and Flame Swordsman.

Meanwhile, Yugi and company were still searching for Joey. Bakura accidently steps on a switch, which triggers an Indiana Jonesish boulder scene to ensue. A boulder chases them all to a dead end. After it runs down Bakura, Tristan tried punching it, and it just pops, revealing itself to be a balloon boulder with a speaker. It would appear that Pegasus wanted to scare someone, and he got all the screaming on tape. Back at the duel, to make things worse, Bonz sends out the Pumpking, which injects ectoplasm into the zombies to power them up even more. Joey gets his time wizard, but the spinner hits the skull, and all of Joey's monsters are killed. Now, Yugi finally finds Joey, and helps him out. It goes down to the wire, but Joey wins. Now Joey has 8 star chips. Bandit Keith, in a rage, steals all of Bonz's and his other henchmen's star chips, seals up the cave with a boulder, trapping Yugi and the gang inside, and heads for Pegasus's castle, as he now has 10 star chips.

The Paradox brothers started by playing Labyrinth Wall which turns the field into a maze. But the catch is that the opponents' monsters can only move the number of steps corresponding to the level of the monster.

Then Yami Yugi plays Beaver Warrior and it took six steps.

Then Dox played Shadow Ghoul polymerize with Labyrinth Wall to make Wall Shadow which can glide on the walls and can strike anytime. Then it kill Beaver Warrior lowering Yugi's hp to 1600.

Then Dox played Labyrinth Tank and Jurai Gimo a monster that lays his spider web on the labyrinth floor and whoever steps on the floor with the Jirai Gimo web symbol, that monsters get destroy by Jirai Gimo.

With Yugi's Dark Magician still protected in the magical hats, the water guardian's attack only succeeds in destroying Joey's monster. But with team work the two manage to destroy the first section of the Trinity. With the water monster gone, the Gate Guardian is weakened.

Teamwork begins to pay off, as Yugi and Joey combine monsters to form the Black Skull Dragon, a combination of the Summon Skull and Red Eyes Black Dragon. But the flying beast is unable to move in the labyrinth.

After solving the Paradox Brothers' puzzle, Yugi and Joey are on their way to Pegasus's castle for their final duels, but little do they know that their journey is far from over yet. Mokuba's soul has been trapped by Pegasus in a card, and the only way for Kaiba to free him is to challenge Yugi in a rematch. With the five star chips Kaiba has been given, his duel with Yugi will ether gain him access to a duel with Pegasus or eliminate him.

Free from the labyrinth, Bakura's millennium ring is pointing towards the castle, being drawn to Pegasus's millennium eye. This doesn't bother Yugi, because they are heading there already. Tea has a flashback of how Yugi seems to be two different people, like the time when he was forced to duel Bakura in the Shadow Realm ("Evil Spirit of the Ring"). She them recalls how Yugi and Joey once helped her to find a warehouse to use as a dance studio (New 'flashback').

As the gang arrives at the castle, Kaiba is waiting at the doorway. He tells Yugi that he won't let him pass unless the two of them battle again. Yugi wants to refuse, but Kaiba accuses him of being too scared to fight him without having Exodia. Joey agrees to fight, but Tea convinces him not to as he will only lose again.

Yugi remembers his first battle with Kaiba ("The Heart of the Cards") and how he now seems different, like he has a purpose for dueling. He doesn't know about Mokuba and Kaiba is not willing to tell him. Yugi agrees to the duel because he is unable to refuse the heart of the cards.

On the rooftop of the castle, the two enemies prepare for a duel using Kaiba's dueling disc system (from "The Scars of Defeat") as Bandit Keith arrives at the castle for his duel with Pegasus. The guard tells him that there is a match about to start and so he heads to the roof to watch the commencing duel.

As the match starts, Kaiba leads Yugi into destroying his first monster in order to use its fallen life points to power up his next. But Yugi plays the Dark Magician and easily crushes the Sword Stalker. Kaiba then plays a genie monster, La Jinn, and uses a magic card to defend it in a lamp. When Yugi attacks, the Dark Magician's attack is deflected, destroying his Curse of Dragon.

With both duelists on 1500 life points, it seems like the match could be close. But Yugi does not know that Kaiba has one Blue Eyes White Dragon waiting in the wings, or that he is planning to do something no duelist has ever done before, polymerise all three Blue Eyes to form the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon

23 :01x23 - Face Off (2)

First aired: Apr/13/2002

As the battle on the rooftop rages, both Yugi and Kaiba have 1500 life points remaining. But Yugi is beginning to worry because Kaiba seems different. He is not toying with Yugi as he did in their first match, but is getting down to business. As Kaiba makes his next move, he plays the 'Despell' card, destroying Yugi's 'Swords of Revealing Light', the card which shut down his Blue Eyes White Dragons the last time they duelled.

But Yugi retaliates with a card which reveals Kaiba's hand, showing the Blue Eyes that he is holding. Yugi is concerned because Kaiba would have played this immediately last time they fought. He doesn't realise Kaiba intends to draw all three Blue Eyes and merge them.

Using the 'Mystic Box' Yugi finally manages to destroy Lajin and the Magical Lamp, taking Kaiba's life points down to 800. But Kaiba plays his Dark Clown, trapped with the virus card Crush. As Yugi destroys the clown, the virus infects his monsters on the field, destroying them. Not only that, but it infects all monsters in his deck with an attack power of 1500 or more. If yugi tries to play one, it will be destroyed immediately.

Forced to play weak cards in defence mode, Yugi is unable to protect his monsters from Kaiba's onslaught. But as Kaiba draws his second Blue Eyes, Yugi uses a magical combo to destroy one of Kaiba's monsters, taking his life points down to 400. But Kaiba is unphased as he draws his third Blue Eyes. Playing his 'Mystical Elf', he restores his life points to 900 before attacking Yugi with one Blue Eyes, taking Yugi's life points down to 400.

As Yugi plays his next monster in defense, Kaiba draws the card he needed, 'Polymerisation'. Merging all three Blue Eyes, he forms the strongest monster in the game, the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon. With his stone soldier destroyed, Yugi prepares for his next turn. But will he be able to pull himself back from the brink of defeat?

24 :01x24 - Face Off (3)

First aired: Apr/20/2002
Guest star: Eric Stuart (Kemo)

It seems like Yugi's hope is lost as Kaiba has managed to combine the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon. But as Yugi draws the card that could be his last, he begins to see a way out of defeat. Playing the Kuriboh, the weakest monster card in the game, he begins to multiply it with a magic card creating an unstoppable defence.

As Kaiba attacks, the Kuriboh have multiplied into a defensive wall of hundreds of monsters, capable of stopping even the Blue Eyes' attacks. While Kaiba has the ultimate attack monster, Yugi has managed to create an ultimate defence to counter it. Not only that, but Yugi is beginning to spin a plan which will destroy Kaiba's Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon once and for all.

Using a trick from Kaiba's book, Yugi uses a Polymerisation card to create a combination monster. But rather than polymerising with one of his own monsters, Yugi uses the Living Arrow to fuse his Mammoth Graveyard with Kaiba's Blue Eyes. The combination of dead and living monsters causes the Dragon to begin decaying and lose its life points

Kaiba attacks once more, but the Kuriboh block the attack and continue to multiply. The Blue Eyes is down to only 900 attack points now and Kaiba is beginning to lose hope for ever rescuing his brother. Yugi calls forth his Celtic Guardian and attacks the Blue Eyes, wasting one of the decaying heads and reducing Kaiba's life points to 400. With the two duellists once again tied, it seems like Yugi could win the duel.

But Kaiba is not so willing to accept defeat. In an attempt to win, he backs up towards the castle wall positioning himself behind his Blue Eyes. He warns Yugi that the blast from an attack on the Blue Eyes could knock him off of the ledge and kill him. Yugi is in a stalemate, unable to win without risking destroying Kaiba at the same time. Yugi and Kaiba both have loved ones at stake, but Kaiba is the more ruthless, willing to risk anything to win.

Kaiba tells Yugi that the only thing to do is to surrender, but Yugi is not so sure. In order to make his decision easier, Kaiba uses Reborn the Monster to revive the lost Blue Eyes head. Now with one head at full strength, Kaiba is able to destroy Yugi on his next turn unless he has the willpower to attack Kaiba. A battle of consciences rages between the two Yugis. As the duellist Yugi orders the Celtic Guardian to attack, Tea pleads for Yugi to stop. Just as the Guardian is about to strike, normal Yugi prevails and shouts for it to stop.

Kaiba begins to gloat as he attacks the Celtic Guardian, wasting both it and Yugi's remaining life points. Yugi breaks down and begins to cry as his only chance to save his grandpa is torn away from him. Tea tries to comfort him but he tells her that he is scared of the other presence inside of him and that he will never duel again. Meanwhile Pegasus is notified of the duel's outcome and authorises Kaiba's entry into the castle. With Yugi's spirit broken, Pegasus no longer has to worry about the only duelist truly capable of beating him

After losing his star-chips to Kaiba due to a dirty trick, Yugi appears to be in a coma. Tea feels that it is now her duty to fight Mai and to win the right amount of star-chips so that Yugi can duel Pegasus.

26 :01x26 - Champion vs. Creator (1)

First aired: May/18/2002
Guest star: Ted Lewis (Croquet)

With ten star chips each, Yugi, Joey, Mai and the others head back to Pegasus's castle ready for their chance to duel him. As the three submit their star chips to enter, the guard stops Tristan, Bakura and Tea as they don't even have duelling gloves. But determined to get in, Mai flirts with the guard and they all sneak in, shutting the guard outside. Inside the castle they find Bandit Keith who is also waiting for his duel with Pegasus. He tells them that they'll have to wait for the current duel to end first, a duel between Kaiba and Pegasus.

As the gang looks down, they see Kaiba awaiting Pegasus's arrival so that they can duel. Pegasus enters the room and begins to taunt Kaiba, but he is unfazed. He is here to rescue his brother and nothing else matters. Pegasus points out to Kaiba that they have an audience and Kaiba spots Yugi and the gang. Kaiba is shocked but not surprised to see that Yugi has managed to regain the star chips he needed and Pegasus is also pleased that Yugi has passed all the ‘tests' he has been set.

Kaiba challenges Pegasus to use the duelling disc system, but Pegasus plays with it, arguing that it wouldn't be fair as he doesn't even know how to use it. He agrees to duel with the system, but only if Kaiba lets another player play the cards in Pegasus's place. Kaiba is confused but things become clear as two guards drag in Mokuba. Pegasus tells Kaiba that Mokuba (still missing his soul) will duel in his place.

The others are shocked to learn that Kaiba is not just fighting to rescue his brother, but that Mokuba's is at stake. Yugi now realises why Kaiba was so desperate to win the duel they fought on the castle roof. Pegasus warns Kaiba that if he loses this battle, his soul will also become trapped inside a card forever. Kaiba refuses to duel against Mokuba and agrees to use the traditional duelling simulator.

As the room changes and an arena descends, Yugi warns Kaiba that he must trust in the Heart of the Cards and that he should be careful of the Millennium Eye, but Kaiba ignores him. Pegasus begins his turn by playing two cards, a monster in defence mode and a second card, both face down. On Kaiba's turn, he has a Blue Eyes White Dragon in his starting hand but is uneasy about playing it yet. Instead he plays a card face down but also plays the Rude Kaiser in attack mode and destroys Pegasus's monster.

Not concerned by the attack, Pegasus begins to taunt Kaiba as he plays the Parrot Dragon. But as Pegasus attacks, Kaiba activates the Mesmeric Control, reducing its attack power by 800. Once again unfazed, Pegasus continues to toy with Kaiba, just as he did when duelling Yugi. Kaiba begins to wonder whether Pegasus has known what he is doing before he does it.

Determined to crush Pegasus, Kaiba decides to play his first Blue Eyes, but as he does so Pegasus interrupts to activate his magic card, Prophecy. Like a guessing game, if Pegasus can guess if the card's attack power is above or below 2000, it will become Pegasus's. Not only guessing the card's attack power, Pegasus also announces what the card is, shocking Kaiba who does not understand the power of the Millennium Eye.

He then decides to use the Millennium Eye to scout out Kaiba's hand. Learning that Kaiba has both Crush and Saagi in his hand, Kaiba plays a card face down, ready to counteract the combo that shut down Yugi's attack force during Kaiba's last duel (Face Off: Part 2). As Kaiba plays the combo, Pegasus's Negative Energy card increases the Dark Clown's attack points meaning it is too strong to host the virus. He then plays the Dark Rabbit which, powered up by the Negative Energy, destroys the Dark Clown and halves Kaiba's life points in one attack.

With Kaiba's life points down to 1000 and Pegasus sitting at an untouched 2000, does the Duel Monsters champion have any chance of defeating the game's creator, especially with the Millennium Eye helping his opponent?

27 :01x27 - Champion vs. Creator (2)

First aired: May/25/2002

As Kaiba continues his duel with Pegasus, Yugi tells the others about the power of Pegasus's Millennium Eye and how it allows Pegasus to see the cards Kaiba is holding. The others doubt what Yugi is saying, but Joey seems to think that if the Millennium Eye really has such powers there will be no way for Kaiba to win. Yugi disagrees with this, reminding Joey that Kaiba is the champion of the game and hopefully has a reserve plan to help him win from behind.

Meanwhile, Kaiba is also beginning to realise the power of the Millennium Eye, but still believes that he can win by playing the cards in his hand. Playing a second monster in defence mode to aid his Rude Kaiser, the champion can do little but wait for Pegasus to make his move.

As Pegasus begins his turn, rather than playing a card he decides to take a time out to reminisce about his favourite cartoon show, "Funny Bunny". As Pegasus recalls the mishaps of the cartoon bunny, Kaiba calls for him to stop talking and start playing, so Pegasus does just that, playing his next card, the Toonworld.

With its new haven inside the covers of the cartoon world, Pegasus's Dark Rabbit is protected from all of Kaiba's attacks but can still emerge to attack. Crushing Kaiba's Battle Ox, the rabbit then retreats back inside the book until Pegasus's next turn. Kaiba, unable to attack the Dark Rabbit, plays one card face down and then ends his turn.

Not content with the fortress-like protection of the Toonworld, Pegasus decides to show off the card's power further by playing the card that he took from Kaiba turns before. But as he plays the Blue Eyes White Dragon, it merges with the habitat of Toonworld and emerges as a Blue Eyes Toon Dragon, a cartoon monster with the power of its normal counterpart. The Dragon attacks the Rude Kaiser, destroying Kaiba's last defensive monster.

Shocked but not yet beaten, Kaiba begins to realise that Pegasus can see the cards in his hand and so decides to discard his current hand, playing instead the top card from his deck. Trusting in the heart of the cards, his faith is rewarded as he draws a second Blue Eyes White Dragon. But as Kaiba attacks the Toon Dragon, another of the Toonworld's rules becomes apparent as the Toon dodges the attack. Pegasus informs Kaiba that like "Funny Bunny" in the TV show, his Toon Monsters cannot be damaged by any attack.

From the sidelines, the gang questions the legality of playing with the Toonworld card. Yugi admits that the Toonworld card was never released on the open market because it was too powerful and that Pegasus's version must be the only one. Meanwhile it is Pegasus's turn again, but with Kaiba playing "blind", Pegasus turns his tactics to seeing into Kaiba's mind and his knowledge of his deck.

Adding yet another layer to the Toonworld, Pegasus plays the Shine Palace, a card that energises all Toon Monsters with its radiant light. The powered-up Toon Dragon attacks, but is blocked by Kaiba's Negate Energy magic card. As what could be his last turn begins, Kaiba must place all of his trust into the cards. Playing the Shadow Spell, he successfully traps the Blue Eyes Toon Dragon before destroying it with the original Blue Eyes, reducing Pegasus's life points to 1200.

Furious that Kaiba has destroyed one of his precious toons, Pegasus retaliates by playing the Dragon Capture Jar. Absorbing the second Blue Eyes inside, the jar's defence points rise to that of the Blue Eyes. Kaiba is unwilling to relent and plays a monster in defence, but on Pegasus's turn he plays the Dragon Piper. As the Piper begins to draw the Blue Eyes, trapped in the Dragon Capture Jar, under Pegasus's control, Kaiba attacks, hoping to shut down the Piper. But as the Sword Stalker prepares to strike, Pegasus reveals his Doppelganger card and uses it to clone Kaiba's Crush card. Infecting the Dragon Piper with the virus, Kaiba's attack leaves his entire deck infected.

With every monster except for one infected by the virus, Kaiba has no choice to revive Saagi, the Dark Clown with the Reborn the Monster card. But as Pegasus prepares for his final attack, Kaiba realises that it is hopeless and that he is about to lose. As the Dark Clown is destroyed, Kaiba loses the last monster not infected by the virus and has to forfeit the match.

As Pegasus gloats and taunts Kaiba for losing the only chance to save his brother, he reminds Kaiba that his soul now belongs to Pegasus. Drawing a blank card, Pegasus uses the Millennium Eye to seal Kaiba's soul within the shadow realm inside the card. Shocked and distraught at Kaiba's defeat, Yugi Yama threatens Pegasus, warning him that soon the duel between the two of them will begin and with it will come Pegasus's final defeat.

Intrigued by the power of the Millennium Power, Pegasus reminds Yugi Yama that in order to earn the right to fight him, he must first defeat the other finalists in the last rounds of the tournament. But will Yugi be able to win the right to fight Pegasus when he must go up against his friends, Joey and Mai?

30 :01x30 - Duel Identity (2)

First aired: Aug/31/2002

As the first playoff duel rages, Yugi has been reduced to 300 life points while Mai's life points remain at an untouched 2000. With the Shadow of Eyes card luring Yugi's monsters into attack mode and the Mirror Wall then reducing their attack points, Yugi seems helpless against the power of Mai's Harpy / Dragon team. Not only that, but he is struggling to resist the spirit of his Millennium Puzzle, fearing what it might do. But if he doesn't embrace the spirit, he may risk losing the only chance he has of rescuing his Grandpa.

Mai's new strategy seems flawless and she owes it to Joey for teaching her the most important lesson of her life. When he defeated her in his first ever tournament duel, he forced her to look at herself in a new way, confronting her fears of her abilities and her trust in herself. Mai tells Joey that her defeat against him taught her more about duelling than any of her victories and forced her to face up to her fears. But now Yugi has the chance to do the same and he is bottling up his fears, scared of what might happen.

As Yugi considers what Mai has said, the spirit of the Puzzle explains that he never meant to hurt Kaiba, but was just trying to save Yugi's Grandpa. He promises to work together with Yugi, not doing what he alone sees best again. Yugi agrees and the two begin working together once more.

Playing Brain Control, Yugi takes control of Mai's Pet Dragon, but even under his control it still refuses to attack its master. Instead, Yugi plays one card face own and then plays the Catapult Turtle. Loading the Dragon onto the Turtle's back, Yugi fires it at Mai's Harpy Lady, destroying her Mirror Wall and reducing her life points to 850 in one attack. With Yugi's inner spirit working with him once more, Mai will have to play better than ever in order to win. Fearing Yugi's trap card, she plays the Elegant Egotist, triplicating her Harpy Lady to give a trio of the powerful monsters and then ends her turn.

As Yugi's turn begins, he tells Mai that she should have attacked him on her turn. She argues that she isn't that foolish, but as Yugi turns over the card Mai realises that he was bluffing. Revealing the Monster Recovery card, Yugi tells Mai that an attack on her turn would have won her the match. Instead, he plays the Monster Recovery card to return all his monsters to his deck and then draw a new hand.

But even with his new hand, he still has nothing strong enough to defeat the Mai's three Harpies. Instead he plays the one card that he can, the Mystical Elf, in defence mode. As a female monster, it is unaffected by the Shadow of Eyes and so cannot be lured into attacking. Mai is shocked, having forgotten the flaw in the Shadow of Eyes, but is unfazed as she plays Monster Reborn to revive her Harpy's Pet Dragon, now even stronger at 2900 attack points because of the three Harpies. Attacking the Mystical Elf with her three Harpies, Mai destroys Yugi's only possible defence card.

With only one card left to save the duel, Yugi begins to lose faith in himself. But the strength of Yugi and his spirit, combined with the heart of the cards, prevails as Yugi draws the Swords of Revealing Light, shutting down Mai's monsters for three turns. Yugi's spirit tells him that there is only one way they can win, and that is through the Black Lustre Ritual. But the Ritual is risky and three turns may not be long enough to draw all the necessary cards. Even so, Yugi plays the first component of the ritual, the puny Karebo.

Mai is amazed by Yugi's guts at playing such a weak monster, but he warns her not to mock the creature as it is the start of her demise. Mai draws one card and then ends her turn, but as Yugi draws his next card he is still missing the final component needed for the Black Lustre Ritual. However he is able to play the second part and using his own Monster Reborn card revives Gaia, the Fierce Knight. But with only two turns to go, can he draw the final card to activate the Ritual.

As Mai's turn begins, Pegasus realises Yugi's strategy and is astounded by his foolishness. As Mai draws a second Harpy Lady card, she gloats to herself that Yugi will be crushed on her next turn when she attacks with four Harpies and the harpy's pet Dragon at a powered-up 3200 attack points. As she ends her turn, the Swords fade away, releasing their control over Mai's monsters.

As he prepares to draw the deciding card of the duel, Yugi begins to doubt whether it is fair to risk the lives of so many of Yugi's friends on the draw of one card. But with the support of all his friends, the power of the two Yugis is stronger than ever, shocking Pegasus who has never felt such power. As he draws the final card, Yugi reveals the Black Lustre Ritual card. Activating the card, the ritual beings.

As both of his monsters are sacrificed, their powers of light and darkness are combined, opening the Gates of Chaos in order to allow the Black Lustre Soldier to emerge. With a powerful attack, the Soldier destroys the Pet Dragon and reduces Mai's life points to 750. Everyone is shocked, especially Mai whose spirit is broken by the crushing defeat of her Dragon. Unable to revive it again, her strategy has fallen to pieces and she cannot see any way to win. Laying her hand over her deck, she concedes the match to Yugi, unable to face seeing her Harpies destroyed on Yugi's next turn.

As Mai turns to leave, Yugi thanks her for teaching him to confront his fears and weaknesses. Mai admits that she also has a lot to learn, both about duelling and herself, but warns Yugi that they will meet again and next time she may not be so easy to defeat. Even so, Yugi must still defeat the winner of the next duel in order to earn the right to duel Pegasus and save his Grandpa. But will he be strong enough to defeat his opponent if he is pitted against his closest friend?

31 :01x31 - Keith's Machinations (1)

First aired: Sep/07/2002

Just as the duel between Joey and Bandit Keith is about to begin, Joey realizes that he doesn't have his qualification card. The referee gives Joey five minutes to find the card. Joey searches his room for it, but, of course, he can't find the card because Keith stole it. Just as Joey's about to give up, Mai appears and gives Joey her qualification card, as he needs it more than she does. Joey returns to the area, and Bandit Keith wonders how Joey got the card. Keith starts of the duel by placing a monster facedown. Joey does the same. Keith flips face-up his Pendulum Machine (1750/2000) which destroys Joey's facedown Battle Warrior (700/1000). Joey summons Giltia The Magician Knight(1850/1500) and it attacks Keith's Machine, but the attack does nothing. Keith then reveals that his machine monsters are immune to magical attacks. Keith summons Launcher Spider (2200/2500) which destroys Giltia (JLP 1650). Joey plays Axe Raider in defence mode and ends his turn. Keith is about to play a card facedown, but he 'accidentally' drops it onto the field, revealing it to everyone. Keith then picks up the card and puts it facedown. He also plays another card facedown. Yugi feels it's a trap, but Joey summons Flame Swordsman (1800/1500) and powers it up with Salamandra (2500) and it attacks the facedown Zoa (2600/1900), but Keith activates the Magic Metal Force trap card, turning Zoa in Metal Zoa (3000/2300), making it immune to the Flame Swordsman's attack. On Keith's turn, he has Metal Zoa attack and destroy Flame Swordsman (JLP 1150). Joey places a card facedown and ends his turn. Keith plays Stop Defence to switch Axe Raider to attack mode. Metal Zoa attacks Axe Raider, but Joey activates the Spiked Pit trap. Metal Zoa falls into the pit, thus destroying it, and dealing 1/4 its attack power to Keith's Life Points (KLP 1250). Joey then summons Garoozis (1800/1500) in attack mode and it destroys the Pendulum Machine (KLP 1200). Joey also places a card facedown. Keith has Launcher Spider attack Garoozis, but Joey activates Kunai With Chain, ensnaring the Launcher Spider and increasing Garoozis' attack by 500 (2300). Garoozis then destroys Launcher Spider (KLP 1100). Tea says that she's never seen a duel when the Life Points were this close, but Keith vows to defeat Joey.

32 :01x32 - Keith's Machinations (2)

First aired: Sep/07/2002

With Joey in the lead, Keith gets really angry and sends out the mighty Barrel Dragon who annihilates Joey's Axe Raider and Gerusies. Joey tries his Time Wizard and Baby Dragon combo, and it worked! But Keith used his trap card Time Machine to bring back the Barrel Dragon at full power. Joey plays Red Eyes Black Dragon and uses his Copycat card to get the Magic Metal Force and activate it, creating the Red Eyes Metal Black Dragon! Surprised at what he hears, Tristan insists that Joey go along because he wants to go as well as he thinks that Serenity is cute.

As the two friends argue, Yugi calls out to Tea and asks her if she will go out with him over the weekend. Tea is surprised but pleased by the offer, but as Yugi explains that he wants her to go out with Yami she is slightly confused by the abruptness of the decision.

As Sunday arrives, Yami is giving Yugi style tips as he prepares for the date, not realising what his partner has set up for him. As the two head off to meet Tea, their friend is worried about how she and Yami will get on. As Yugi arrives, he switches places with Yami, leaving his two friends alone, and the two decide to go and get coffee.

As the two drink their coffee, Tea suggests that they could go to the museum and see the exhibit, explaining that one of the artifacts shown in the local paper had a symbol on it that was similar to the one on the Millennium Puzzle. As Tea worries that she may have upset Yami with her suggestion, he explains that he is worried that the paths that he and Yugi must face are going to be difficult, but Tea explains that everyone has a hard time trying to fulfil their ambition and explains to her friend about how she wants to become a dancer.

Finishing their drinks, the two tour the town, visiting the music store and the park, but when Yami finds a new card shop has opened he is eager to check it out and, buying a pack of cards, is pleased to find the Hand Sealing Sword of Light inside the pack. As Tea realises that Yami is happiest when he is duelling, she decides to take him to the arcade, but as they arrive everybody is gathered around the dance machine where the talented but obnoxious Johnny Steps is showing off his skills.

Determined to prove her worth on the game, Tea challenges Johnny to a head-to-head dance contest, but as the music begins and the two both dance flawlessly Johnny tries to trip Tea up but only ends up falling himself. As Tea wins the contest, everyone is impressed, even Yami.

Later that day, Tea and Yami are looking out over the beach as Yami realises that a dream is never worth giving up on. He explains to Tea how he longs to find his memories, but worries that when he finds them he and Yugi will become separated. However as the two continue to talk, Step Johnny arrives and challenges Tea to another contest, but this time he wants to play her at Duel Monsters. As Tea is stunned by the challenge, Yami accepts the duel in her place, but Johnny warns him that if he loses he must stay away from Tea forever.

As the duel begins, Yami is determined to teach Johnny a lesson about respect for dancing, and as Johnny plays the Sound Maiden Yugi easily defeats it with the Celtic Guardian, reducing Johnny's life points to 1800. As Johnny plays his second monster, the Water Dancer, Yami realises that Johnny is using fan cards, not seriously intended for duelling but more a set of cards for collectors who like music and dancing.

However as Yami passes play back to Johnny, his opponent plays the Spirit of the Harp in defence more before increasing it's DEF by 500 through the power of the Soothing Song. Surprised by the play, Yugi plays Curse of Dragon, destroying the Water Dancer and reducing Johnny's life points to 1200, but Johnny retaliates with the Witch of the Black Forest, fusing it with his Lady of Faith to form the Musician King.

As the Musician King attacks, Yugi's Guardian is destroyed, reducing his life points to 1650, and as Johnny ends his turn he plays one card face down. Yugi attacks the Musician King with his Curse of Dragon, but as he does so Johnny reveals his Magic Metal Force, transforming his monster into the Heavy Metal King, destroying Yugi's Dragon.

As Yugi plays the Giant Soldier of Stone in defence mode, the power of Magic Metal Force increases the Heavy Metal King's ATK to 2700 and Johnny destroys Yugi's Soldier. Shocked by the King's ability to increase it's ATK for each monster that it has destroyed, Yugi realises that he can still win the match as he summons the Dark Magician and orders it to attack.

As Johnny reminds Yugi of his Metal Force, Yugi informs his opponent that the Trap's powers only work when Johnny is attacking, not when he is being attacked. As the Heavy Metal King is destroyed, Johnny is shocked to realise just who his opponent is and surrenders, realising that there is no way for him to win.

As Johnny tries to leave the arena, Tea confronts him, telling him not to give up on his dreams.

As Johnny promises to keep trying, Tea and Yami decide to visit the museum, but when the two arrive Yami is apprehensive about going in, not sure if he is ready to have his questions answered. But with Tea by his side Yami has the confidence he needs to find out who he really is.

57 :02x08 - Yugi Vs. The Rare Hunter (2)

First aired: Jan/18/2003
Guest star: David Willis (Rare Hunter)

Yami Yugi begins by putting one card faced down and use Chimera to destroy defense monster. Now when the Rare Hunter is about to draw the final piece of Exodia, Yami Yugi reveals his trap card which was Time Seal, which makes the opponent skip his drawing phase. That move may have help Yugi for one turn but he better think up of another plan though.

Then Yami Yugi plays Lightforce Sword(he got this card in Stepping Out) and Lightforce Sword dstroys one card for three turns, but the Lightforce Sword attacks randomly, Yami Yugi stiill took the risk and to his surprise, the Lightforce Sword destroy the right arm of Exodia, the Rare Hunter is angry and then Yami Yugi summoned Summoned Skull by sacrificing Chimera.

Instead the Rare Hunter played Swords of Revealing Light therefore makes the Summoned Skull unable to attack! Then the rare Hunter drew a card and it was the head of Exodia, Exodia the Forbidden One, not the card he needs to summon Exodia.

Then Yami Yugi summoned Magnet Warrior, then Yami Yugi explain that there is a big fault in the Rare Hunter's deck because his deck is based on Exodia then puts a card faced down. The Rare Hunter drew another card but it was Left Leg of Exodia, again not the card he need. But the rare Hunter doesn't have any defenses and since he has two heads of Exodia on his hand right now, he instead plays the Head of Exodia in defense mode, doing that activates Yugi's faced down card which was Chain Destrution, Chain Destrution will destory the monster on the field and will destroy the same copies of the monster out on the field, meaning Head of Exodia, so all the Rare Hunter's Head of Exodia are now destroyed making it IMPOSSIBLE to summon Exodia now. But the Rare Hunter said that Swords of Revealing is still in play so Yugi can't attack, but Yami Yugi, instead played Dust Tornado, which destroys one magic crad on the field, now with Swords of Revealing Light destroyed, both Summoned Skull and Magnet Warrior can attack the Rare Hunter's life points directly, Yami Yugi also use Monster Reborn to reborn Chimera and then he use Summoned Skull's attack points and add it to Magnet Warrior, so now Magnet Warrior have 4100 attack points since he originally had 1400 attack points. The Yami Yugi use Magnet Warrior to attack the Rare Hunter's life points directly and the Rare Hunter lost.

Then Yami Yugi approach him and search his deck for Joey's Red Eyes Black Dragon, but something was wrong, he feels the inks on the Rare Hunter's Exodia cards slip off his hand and then he realized that teh Exodia cards are marked with invisible ink and therefore it is fake, so Yami Yugi simply rip them up pieces to pieces.

Meanwhile the Rare Hunter started paniking saying to his master let he go, he is sorry for losing! But then the Rare Hunter started floating up and move like a windup doll and then a yellow eye appears on his forehead like Yami Yugi's. Yami Yugi then said that that is the Millennium Sign and the "master" started talking using the Rare Hunter's body as a speak through dummy, he reveals himself as Marik, and he reveals to Yami Yugi that he owns the Millennium Rod and it brainwashes people and he desires to own all 7 Millennium Items. Then Marik talks about how he is going to get all the ancient Egyptian God card. Yami Yugi didn't know what it was until Marik explained it to him and now Marik said that he will get the Egyptian God cards and the Millennium Puzzle and become Pharaoh and rule the world. He then disappears and the Rare Hunter's body collapses.

Yami Yugi tries to give Joey back his Red Eyes but Joey won't take it unless he can win it in a duel. Joey also said that with the Red Eyes in Yugi's deck, it will be like Joey's spirit is also in Yugi's deck, plus he also remember that Yugi gave him the Time Wizard and the Time Wizard is his current rarest card. He promises to let Yugi use his Red Eyes to beat Marik. Then both walk away in different directions.

However, Arkana flips his face-down card, which can destroy monsters so that each player has same number of monsters on their sides. Since he doesn't have any monsters on the field, Yugi's two monsters are destroyed.

Arkana then plays a magic card, Dark Magic Curtain. It lets both players give up half of their Life Points in exchange to summon a high-level monster without having to sacrifice. Arkana gives up half of his life points (750) and summons another Dark Magician (obviously, he has more than one) and orders him to attack Yugi. It seems hopeless, but Yugi points out that Dark Magic Curtain works for everyone, and plays his Dark Magician Girl (after giving up half of his Life Points 350). Dark Magician Girl only has 2000 ATK points and Arkana commands his male Dark Magician to attack the female one. What Arkana didn't realize was that Dark Magician Girl gets 300 extra points from each Dark Magician in the graveyard. Arkana still thinks that his Dark Magician should've won, but then he sees his own Dark Magician (the first one) behind the Dark Magician Girl. Yugi tells him that Dark Magician Girl gets the boost from Dark Magicians from the both Graveyards. Arkana loses, and the Dark Energy Disk is getting closer to him. Yugi unlocks himself and finds a Locator Card in the box as well. Arkana screams, but then he reveals that he has an extra key up in his sleeve. He takes it out, but his hand suddenly becomes frozen! Marik then sends Arkana's mind to the Shadow Realm. Yugi and Marik have a long talk. Marik says that he should have the Pharaoh's power. He explains that he needs the three Egyptian God Cards and the Millenium Puzzle to rule the world. Yugi asks him where the three cards are, and Marik tells him that he already has two of them and knows where to find the third one. Marik also tells Yugi that he'll send another one of his mind-slaves to Battle City to duel and defeat Yugi. He tells him to beware of the Quiet One. Marik also says that the Quiet One will use an Egyptian God Card! Yugi's friends then bust the door and rush in to rescue Yugi. The boy asks for Joey's autograph and asks to try his Duel Disk on. Joey gives the boy the disk and the boy runs off. Joey chases after him. Tea, Tristan, and Grampa see Joey chasing the boy, and Tristan helps Joey stop the boy. The boy tells Joey that Weevil Underwood had him steal Joey's Duel Disk. Joey, Tea, Tristan, and Grampa go to meet Weevil in the park. The boy goes to an alley and asks Weevil for the rare card that he was promised. The card Weevil gives the boy is Gokibore, a card that everyone has. The boy complains, but Weevil just sprays bug spray in the boy's eyes and runs off. Meanwhile, at the hospital, a boy named Kenta is hiding in Serenity's room because he is afraid of getting an x-ray. Serenity asks Kenta to go on the Battle City website to see if Joey is duelling. In the park, Joey meets Weevil and challenges him to a duel. Tea warns Joey about Weevil's cheating, but Joey knows he can beat Weevil. Joey starts off by summoning Swordsman Of Landstar (500/1200) and then placing a card facedown. Weevil summons Flying Kamakiri #1 (1400/900) and has it attack, but Joey activates Shield and Sword, switching the attack and defence of all monsters. Landstar then destroys the Kamakiri (W: 3700). But the destruction of Flying Kamakiri #1 allows Weevil to summon Flying Kamakiri #2 (1500/800). Joey sacrifices Landstar to summon Jinzo (2400/1500) and it destroys the Kamakiri (W: 2800). Weevil sets his next monster facedown. Jinzo attacks it, but it turns out to be Kiseikai (300/800), which attaches itself to Jinzo, allowing Weevil to gain 1200 Life Points each turn. Weevil sets his next monster facedown. Weevil gains 1200 Life Points (W: 4000) and Jinzo attacks the facedown monster, Skull Marked Ladybug (500/1500), which allows Weevil to gain another 500 Life Points (W: 4500). Weevil sets his next monster facedown. Weevil gains another 1200 Life Points (W: 5700) and Joey comes up with a plan. He summons Panther Warrior (2000/1600). Because it requires a sacrifice to attack, Joey sacrifices Jinzo to have Panther Warrior attack the facedown monster (1000/1200). Weevil then announces that he was going easy on Joey. He summons Larva Moth (500/400) and equips to it the Cocoon Of Evolution (0/2000). He then plays Reckless Parasite, taking a Parasite card from Joey's deck and playing it on his side of the field. Joey says that he doesn't have a Parasite in his deck, but the card summons a Parasite Paracide (300/500). Joey wonders where the Parasite Paracide came from, but then figures out that the boy must have put it in his deck. The Parasite turns Panther Warrior into a bug. Weevil then places another card facedown. Joey says that he can still destroy the Cocoon before it hatches into the Great Moth, but he can't sacrifice Parasite-infected monsters to allow Panther Warrior to attack. Joey summons Tiny Guardian (1400/1800). Since the Cocoon is in attack mode, the Guardian can still destroy it. It attacks, but Weevil activates the Insect Barrier, preventing Joey's insect monsters from attacking, and because Joey's monsters are all turned into insects, he can't attack. Weevil summons Leghul (300/350) which can attack Joey's Life Points directly. Over the next few turns, Joey can only pass his turns, and Leghul just keeps attacking him directly. By the fifth turn, Joey's Life Points are at 3100. The Cocoon hatches into the monster that Weevil couldn't summon during Duelist Kingdom, the Perfectly Ultimate Great Moth (3500/3000). The moth towers above Joey, and Weevil proclaims that he has summoned one of the game's most powerful monsters to destroy Joey.

65 :02x16 - Mime Control (1)

First aired: Mar/08/2003
Guest star: Jonathan Todd Ross (Strings)

Having defeated Weevil's powerful Insect Army, Joey is still psyched from the win, however Tristan is confused as to why Joey took Weevil's Insect Queen when he could have chosen the more powerful Ultimate Great Moth. However as Joey explains that he didn't take the Moth because he doesn't have the Larvae Moth or the Cocoon of Evolution, Tea suggests that he took pity on Weevil and couldn't bear to take his most prized monster.

As Joey tries to convince Tea that this isn't the case, Solomon explains that such actions are what have made Joey a true duellist who might even be able to beat Yugi one day. Flattered by the remark, Joey decides to find another opponent while he is still excited from his last victory, but, as the gag head off, Tea is worried about how Yugi is doing, not realising that she and the others are being tracked by one of the members of Rare Hunters.

Elsewhere, Marik Ishtar is on his way to Domino by boat and is contemplating his upcoming duel with Yami. Although Marik did not wish for Yugi to get involved in the conflict, since their conversation when Marik took control of Pandora it has become clear that Yugi will not stand by and let his partner be defeated. As Odion comes up from below deck, he suggests that the time has come for Marik to take control of hip puppet and begin the duel with Yugi.

Somewhere in Domino, a Mime Artist is perched unmoving on a park bench with people gathered around him out of fascination. However as passers by try to get the mime to move, they do not realise that he is Strings, the puppet that Marik intends to use to duel Yami. As Marik takes control of its body, the Mime Artist runs off in search of its prey.

Unaware of the events going on around them, Yugi and Yami are talking by the side of the river. Yugi tells Yami that if it wasn't for him, yugi would have never made all the friends that he has, but Yami claims that this isn't true and that Yugi would have made friends anyway. However as the two continue to talk, Yami senses Strings coming and before the two know what is happening Strings has leapt over the bridge and landed in front of them.

As Yugi realises that Marik must be controlling the puppet, Marik is surprised that Yugi still remembers him after their previous meeting. However as goes on to explain that he is in complete control of String' body, Yami is furious that Marik is abusing his Millennium Item and challenges him to duel. Marik is pleased to be finally dueling the pharaoh. Yami is persistent to start the duel, even when Yugi warns him that Strings has one of the God Cards in his possession.

Over at the museum, Ishizu senses that the duel is about to begin, and worries that she could have done more to try and stop Marik before things got this bad. Meanwhile, Yami Bakura's Millennium Ring has drawn him to the museum and to Ishizu's Millennium Necklace, however while he is unsuccessful in tracking down Ishizu's item, he is intrigued to find the tablets describing the ancient battle between Yugi and Kaiba.

As the duel between Yugi and Marik begins, Marik sets one card and then summons Universal Mud in attack mode. Surprised that Marik has played such a weak monster, Yugi is sure that his set card must be a trap and decides to do the same, setting one card before summoning Gazelle, King of Mythical Beasts. However as Yugi ends his turn without attacking, Marik accuses his cautiousness as nothing more than cowardice and, playing the Dorek Worm, Marik also plays Polymerisation to fuse his two monsters together..

As the Humanoid Dorek appears, Yugi is confident that he can find a way to defeat the monster before it can attack on Marik's next turn. Revealing that his set card was not a trap card but actually the Rapid Attack card, Marik uses the card's effect to allow his fused monster to attack, however Yami reveals his own trap card, Defusion, separating Marik's Humanoid Drake back into its two separate monsters.

Yugi explains that he had realised Marik's plan when he played Universal Mud, a card known for its use in fusions, and had worked out how to combat it. Pleased to see what kind of a player Yugi really is, Marik warns Yugi that although he has depth to his skill levels he can still be defeated. But as Yugi summons Beta the Magnet Warrior, both of his monsters attack, destroying both the monsters on Marik's side of the field and reducing Marik's LP to 3000.

Although Yugi is confident that he is turning the tables, Marik is still sure that victory will be his. As he plays Revival Jam, Marik also plays the Jam Breeding Machine, a machine which produces a Slime Token (500/0) every turn. Realising that Marik plans to use the Slime Tokens as a tribute to summon Slifer the Sky Dragon, Yami sacrifices both of his monsters to summon Buster Blader and attacks the Revival Jam. However while the Slime is destroyed temporarily, it immediately regenerates and Marik's life points are untouched.

As the first Slime Token is generated, Marik sets a card and warns Yugi that in three turns time he will be done for. However Yugi is confident that he can win by defeating Marik's Slime Tokens and warns Marik that he can win in just two turns. However as Buster Blader prepares to attack the Slime Token, Marik reveals his set card, Jam Defender, allowing his Revival Jam to block the Blader's attack.

Explaining that he had already covered the weakness of the Slime Tokens, Marik uses Slime Bearer to generate another Slime Token, leaving only one more left before he can summon the God card. However in order to stop Yugi from interfering any further, Marik also plays the Nightmare Steelcage, trapping Yugi and his monsters within an impenetrable cage.

With only one turn left until Marik summons Slifer the Sky Dragon, it looks like there is nothing that Yugi can do as long as the Nightmare Steelcage is on the field. But even against the awesome power of a God card, Yami isn't prepared to give up just yet.

Yami and Kaiba are barely hanging on as Yami's life points dip to 1500 and Umbra and Lumis have summoned a monster with 3200 attack points!

Lumis contemplates what he should do. Destroy the Blue Eyes on Kaiba's side, destroying their last hope of winning, or simply put Yami out of his misery right then.

Kaiba manages to persuade them to attack the Blue Eyes rather than Yami and on Yami's turn, he summon Gamma the Magnet Warrior, which he fuses with his other Magnet Warriors to form Valkyrion the Magna Warrior with an attack power of over 3000.

Kaiba tells yami to attack imeadiatly, still sore about having to sacrifice his dragon. Yami isn't sure, as he suspects the monster has a special effect.

He tells Kaiba that he should calm down for a minute and think clearly. That anger and revenge are the causes of defeat.

Kaiba doesn't understand what Yami is trying to say, as he always believed revenge and anger were what a duel was all about. He thinks for a moment and then tells Yami to attack.

Valkyrion destroys their monster, but it leaves behind a mask which is equiped to Valkyrion. Valkyrion then becomes their creature.

As Umbra takes his turn, he plays a card allowing him to control Valkyrion. But as he does that, Yami activates de-fusion, which seperates Valkyrion into the three magnet warriors, and the mask disappears.

Kaiba then activates Soul Exchange, sacrificing their three magnet warriors to summon Obelisk. He then attacks, and reduces Umbra's life points to zero.

The Shadow Box goes off, but as Umbra falls, he activates a parachute and escapes the Shadow Realm.

Yami offers Lumis the chance to surrender, but Marik takes over him and tells Yami that Joey and Tea have become his prisoners.

Kaiba demands to know where his brother is, as they won the duel, but Marik just laughs. A few minutes later, however, Kaiba's helecopter flies over to the roof and Mokuba jumps out.

He tells Yami and Kaiba how Tea helped him escape, but when he went back to help her, she was gone. Kaiba tells Yami to get in the helecopter so they can help find Tea, but he tells Yami he's only doing this to repay Tea for helping Mokuba.

Tea walks down from a boat, also possessed by Malik who is speaking through her. She explains the rules of the duel. Each player stands on one side of the dock with a chain around their ankle that connects to a large anchor held up a few feet above the duel.

The life point counts are wired to a bomb. If one count hits zero again, the timer will set for 30 seconds. The winner's life points counter will open up, revealing a key which they can escape with. Then, when 30 seconds is up, the anchor will fall and the looser will be dragged to a watery grave.

Also, the timer has been set for 40 minutes. If neither player hits zero by then, the anchor will fall regardless of life points. Tea then sits down in a chair and is strapped in. Malik then leaves her to watch and the timer starts.

Kaiba and Mokuba refuse to allow the duel to begin, but as soon as the start walking forward, a large crate held up by a crane is brought over Tea. If anyone tries to interfer, the crate will drop.

As Kaiba and Mokuba are forced to watch on the side line, Joey tells Yami that he must also remove Osiris from his deck. Yami does so, and then Yami and Joey begin their duel to the death. Yami starts with Gazell in defense mode and Joey easily defeats it with his Allogator Sword.

Yugi knows that if there's any way to get Joey to remember who he is, it's the Red Eyes Black Dragon. Hopefully, he can draw it and try to bring Joey back with it.

But with the counter counting the minutes down to their death, can they pull it off in time?

Tristan tries to call Tea, but her phone rings busy, as it's still sitting smashed on the side walk from the encounter with the Rare Hunters. So Tristan decides that they'll just have to walk around town and find them.

Back at the duel, Yugi has agreed to take over and try to get Joey to take control, and manages to draw the red eyes Black Dragon. Hoping to get Joey to start remembering, he plays exchange.

Joey comes over to take one of Yugi's cards and sees the Red Eyes. Marik insists Joey take it, but as he reaches for it, he finds he cannot take it from Yugi's hand.

He pulls a card out, and Yugi is relieved to see it wasn't the Red Eyes. It was only card destruction. Marik covers up for this by claiming he didn't need a monster but is shocked Joey didn't follow his orders.

Yugi is pleased, however, because Joey hadn't forgotten his promise back when Yugi won the Red Eyes. Yugi plays the Red Eyes Black Dragon, but it is soon weakened by Joey's Rocket Warrior.

Meanwhile, Tristan and Serenity are ambushed by a group of Rare Hunters and they run to an alley where they are cornered. Tristan tries to fight, but can't leave Serenity alone.

But when they're about the give up, who should appear to help them out but Duke Devlin, the creator of Dungeon Dice. After tossing dice out at the Hunter to slow them down, they manage to escape from the hunters.

Back at the duel, Yugi fights on as the Red Eyes lays forgotten in the corner of the battle. But he knows he must find some way to use the Red Eyes Black dragon to bring the real Joey back. He decides to give Joey his Millennium Puzzle to see if that will help him regain control.

Malik seems pleased that Joey is following his order again and tells Joey to have the Panther Warrior attack the weakened Red Eyes. But Joey instead orders Rocket Warrior to attack Yugi's other monster.

Malik is furious Joey isn't following his orders and even worse, Yugi springs a trap backfiring Rocket Warrior's attack back at the panther Warrior.

Meanwhile, the Rare Hunters have caught up to Triston, Duke, and Serenity. Triston tells Duke to get Serenity out of their while Triston stays to fight. Duke and Serenity try to run away and are nearly run down by a car as they try to cross the street.

The driver, Mai, asks them what they're doing in the road and Duke explains that the Rare Hunters are after them. After Triston defeats the remaining hunters, he demands to know where Joey is. The hunter tells him he is at the dock and Mai pulls over with Duke and Serenity.

Duke is surprised to find that Triston knows Mai and they all get in the car. Mai shows off her six puzzle cards before taking a sharp turn toward the dock.

As the counter lowers to just four minutes, Tea yells at Kaiba and Mokuba to just stop the duel and forget about her, but they are unable to bring themselves to do that.

Triston and the others arrive at the dock and Kaiba and Mokuba explain the situation. Serenity attempts to remove her banage when she hears Joey is dueling, but Tea yells at her not to, not wanting Serenity's first sight to be Joey possessed.

With only a few minutes left on the counter, can Yugi manage to get Joey back before time runs out?

78 :02x29 - Friends 'Til the End (4)

First aired: Jul/19/2003

As Joey informs Yugi that he is about to lose the duel and his life, Yugi refuses to give up, hoping that he can still free Joey from Marik's control before it is too late. However as Marik orders Joey to activate Meteor of Destruction, the gang, all watching on the sidelines, are despreately looking for a way to help Yugi and Joey without putting Téa at risk. Mokuba asks Kaiba if he can do anything and as Téa calls for them to forget about her and help the others the Rare Hunter reminds them what will happen to Téa if they do interfere.

Although unable to do anything at the moment, Kaiba gets in touch with somebody over an intercom system connected up to his trenchcoat in the hopes that he can still save Téa and repay her for rescuing Mokuba. Meanwhile, Yugi calls out to Joey once again to try and free him from Marik's control, and, as Marik orders his mind puppet to play Meteor of Destruction, Joey begins to remember things.

As his memories of Duelist Kingdom and Battle City begin flooding back to him, Joey remembers, once again, how he promised Yugi that he would help defeat Marik and the Rare Hunters. Sensing that the real Joey is back in control, Yugi calls out to Marik, informing him that now that he has no control over Joey he has no way to win the duel and claim Yugi's God Card and Millennium Puzzle. However as Yugi taunts Marik to try and attack, Marik uses the Millennium Rod to take full control over Joey's body, forcing him to activate Meteor of Destruction.

As the meteor hurtles towards Yugi with the strength to eliminate the last of his Life Points, Joey successfully breaks free of Marik's control once and for all. Glad to see that his friend is back for good, Yugi activates his trap card, Mystical Ref Panel, to stall the meteor's attack while he decides who it should attack. As a confused Joey tries to work out what has been going on, Yugi explains that their friendship broke Marik's control over Joey and that now he is free again.

While the two friends reunite briefly, a Kaibacorp helicopter arrives and, under remote control, flies towards the crane which is suspending the crate over Téa's head. As the Rare Hunter prepares to push the switch, Kaiba draws his Blue-Eyes White Dragon card and, throwing it at the Hunter, knocks the switch from his hand and then grabs him before he is able to recover. As the chopper pulls the crane into the sea, where the bomb detonates safely, the gang rush over and free Téa from the chair where she had been secured before running to help Yugi and Joey.

However time is running short for Yugi and Joey and as Yugi explains that he won't let both of them be dragged under he tearfully asks Joey to look after the Millennium Puzzle for him as he orders Mystical Ref Panel to direct the attack at him. As the full impact of the meteor hits Yugi, wiping out the remainder of his Life Points, the force causes Yugi to collapse while Joey's box opens revealing the key that will free him.

As Yugi bags Joey to save himself in the thirty seconds that remain before the anchor drops, Joey refuses to let his friend be dragged under and orders the Red-Eyes Black Dragon to attack him, wiping out the remainder of his Life Points as well. As Yugi's key box also opens, Serenity senses her brother's courage and removes her bandages to see the world for the first time in a long time.

With ten seconds left on the timer, Joey drops the Millennium Puzzle to the ground and then, using the chain attached to his foot, swings across to Yugi's platform in the hopes that he can grab Yugi's key before the two are pulled under. As the timer counts down to zero, Joey wonders if he will make it and barely does before the anchor is released, dragging both Yugi and himself into the water.

As the two are pulled deeper and deeper underwater, Joey swims over to Yugi and unlocks his chain leaving him free to float back up to the surface. However as Yugi surfaces and Tristan pulls him out, Mokuba realises that Joey never grabbed his own key before he was dragged under. As Tristan goes to get the key and dive back down to save his friend, the gang are shocked to see Serenity, key in hand, dive into the water to save her big brother. Trying, without success, to use Yugi's key to unlock his own chain, Joey can't believe it as he sees somebody swimming down to save him, and as Serenity arrives and unlocks his chain he can hardly believe that his sister is here until she explains how Tristan and Mai brought her to find him.

As Yugi and Joey are glad that they are both safe, Joey is embarrased at how he let himself be controlled by Marik and even as Yugi tells him that it wasn't his fault he is still upset by what he did under Marik's control. However as Mai tells him that he shouldn't be embarrased after the courage he showed Joey explains that he was hardly the big brother that he wanted to be for Serenity but Tristan reminds him that it was his courage and strength that gave Serenity the courage to go through with the operation.

Realising that Serenity is able to see again, Joey is less upset, especially as she tells him that he has been her inspiration to keep on going and that the two of them will support each other no matter what happens. With brother and sister reunited at last, Joey returns the Millennium Puzzle to Yugi and thanks him for being such a good friend and Yugi in turn thanks Yami for letting him duel on his own.

82 :02x33 - The Dark Spirit Revealed (1)

As everyone gathers in the main hall, Mai tells Yugi that she is eager to get started, confident that she will go all the way to the final round this time. However while she gets psyched about the tournament Joey is more excited by the all you can eat buffet until he bumps into Bakura and discovers that he forced Bonz into giving up all five of his Locator Cards after defeating him in a duel.

As a freaked out Joey backs away from Bakura, hoping that he won't have to face him in a duel, he asks Kaiba what the hold up is. Kaiba explains that the eighth finalist has not yet arrived, however as he sends one of the officials off to collect her he decides to begin the proceedings anyway and as a large lottery machine appears at one end of the room the other official explains that the machine will randomly choose the pairs of duellists who will compete against each other.

However unlike Duelist Kingdom, the second pairing will not be chosen until after the end of the first match, meaning that none of the duellists will know who they will be duelling until just before the match starts. As the duellists wait for the first two numbers to be chosen, they are all reminded of their numbers in the tournament; Kaiba (1), Joey (2), Yugi (3), Mai (4), Namu (5), Bakura (6), Marik (7), Ishizu (8).

As the official arrives at Ishizu's room to request her presence in the main hall, she explains that her presence will not be required as her number will not be chosen, however as the official leaves Ishizu worries that the fate of the world depends on the victory of one of the two duellists who will be chosen.

Back at the hall, the lottery machine starts up and chooses the first duellist for the opening match; Bakura. Surprised to see that he has been picked for the first duel, Bakura is eager to see who his first opponent will be and is pleased when it is Yugi's number which is drawn as his opponent. As Yugi and Bakura are lead away to the Stratos Duelling Arena the rest of the finalists are invited to make their way to the spectator platform to watch the proceedings.

As the elevator carries Yugi and Bakura up to the top of the ship, Yugi is suspicious of Bakura , sure that he is still after the Millennium Items. Meanwhile Kaiba is eager to see how Bakura will cope against the might of Slifer the Sky Dragon, assuming that Yugi uses it in the duel. Arriving at the Stratos Arena, Yugi is determined not to lose the duel as the fate of the world is at stake, and as the other finalists arrive Kaiba informs them that the strong winds and cold temperature of the altitude are intended to test the true limits of the duelists.

Confident that he will be the victor, Bakura asks if Yugi is ready to lose, however Yugi demands to know who is really in control of Bakura. As Yami Bakura reveals the Millennium Ring around his neck, Yugi realises that his opponent is the same opponent he fought in the Shadow Realm at Duelist Kingdom. While Tristan is shocked to see the Millennium Ring after he threw it into the woods of Duellist Kingdom, Namu and Mai do not understand what all the fuss is about until Téa and Joey explain how Bakura's Millennium Item contains an evil spirit.

As Joey hopes that they won't end up dragged into the Shadow Realm again, Namu is amused that none of the others realise he is really Marik, but as Yugi asks Yami Bakura why he is duelling Yami Bakura suggests that he is not intent on taking the Millennium Puzzle but has his sights on something more powerful. However as Yami Bakura goes on to taunt Yugi, explaining that not everybody is who they seem on the ship, Marik contacts Yami Bakura mentally and warns him that he is giving too much information away.

With the duel about to begin, Yugi and his friends are sure that he will win however Yami Bakura is confident that victory will, in the end, be his however as his first turn begins he summons The Portrait's Secret (1200/1500) in attack mode. As Yugi wonders what Yami Bakura could be up to he summons Gazelle, the King of Mythical Beasts (1500/1200) and destroys Bakura's monster (B's LP: 3700) before setting one card.

Not bothered by the loss of his first monster, Bakura summons The Gross Ghost of Fled Dreams (1300/1800), once again in attack mode, and while Joey is freaked out by the creepy monster Yugi s unimpressed by such a weak card. Sensing that Bakura must be wanting him to attack, Yugi realises that his only hope is to wipe out Bakura's Life Points before he can start his strategy and, summoning Gamma the Magnet Warrior (1500/1800) orders both of his monsters to attack Bakura (B's LP: 2000).

With half of his Life Points already gone, it looks like Bakura will be easily crushed in the next turn and as he summons The Headless Knight (1450/1700) it seems like there is no way for him to turn the tables and win the duel, especially as both of Yugi's monsters attack once again (B's LP: 450). Confident that he is about to win, Yugi doesn't realise that he has been reeled into Bakura's trap until his opponent explains that he needed three monsters in his graveyard to summon his most powerful monster.

As Yugi realises that Bakura played him like a fool he is shocked as Bakura summons Dark Necrofear (2200/2800). As Bakura explains that Dark Necrofear possessed some very special powers he sets two cards and then ends his turn, much to the surprise of Yugi who thinks that Bakura must have been worried about his set card. Deciding to put Bakura out of his misery Yugi sacrifices his Gazelle to summon the Dark Magician Girl (2000/1700) before activating his set card, Magic Formula to increase her ATK to 2500.

Now more powerful than Dark Necrofear, the Magician Girl attacks and destroys it (B's LP: 150) however Bakura is glad, explaining that Yugi has once again fallen into his trap. With Dark Necrofear in the graveyard, Bakura activates his Dark Sanctuary magic card and, as he does so, the arena is shrouded in a red fog filled with mysterious eyes. As Yugi looks on bewildered Bakura explains that there is no escape from defeat now that Yugi has fallen well and truly into his trap.

Yami Bakura explains that with the new field comes it's own "resident spirit" who can possess on opponents monster secretly each turn. Yugi manages to destroy the spirit by playing a card that forces all equipt cards, including the spirit, to go to his Kuriboh, then he destroys Kuriboh. But Yami Bakura plays a card that will add a letter of the word DEATH to his magic and trap card zone after every opponents turn. As the letters slowly pile up, how will Yami stop the word and prevent his immediate defeat?

84 :02x35 - The Dark Spirit Revealed (3)

First aired: Sep/13/2003
Guest star: Wayne Grayson (Roland)

Yami temperarily gets rid of the field by reviving Dark Nephoria, but he is quickly destroyed again and not only does the field return, but the resident spirit.

Yami Bakura, playing magic cards on his monster zone as well due to another field effect, has summoned all but the letter H. Yami trusts in his deck and draws Osiris, tributes all his monsters and summons him. The resident spirit cannot effect him, so Yami Bakura will loose in one attack.

But Malik, who has found a way to control the regular Bakura as well, suggests sending out the regular Bakura. He does this and Lishto explains that if Yami attacks, Bakura will surely die from the impact.

Bakura falls to his knees in pain but Yami is stopped from helping him by the referee. If he goes over to Bakura, he will be disqualified. Yami struggles with what to do, when Yami Bakura tells Malik to leave him alone and takes control of Bakura again.

He explains to Yami that Bakura's body is important to him and he can't let it die. So Yami attacks, winning the duel, and the first semi-final comes to an end.

As Yugi and his friends run to help Bakura, the referee tells Yugi he is entitled to one of Bakura's cards, but Yugi doesn't want it. Yami Yugi realizes that he and Yami Bakura are sort of similar, in the fact that they both have to protect their hosts.

But Yugi points out one difference; the fact that Bakura isn't helping Yami Bakura, and that he does indeed want to help Yami Yugi.

After taking Bakura back to his room, the gang decide to ask Kaiba to land the ship so they can get him back to the hospital. Yugi notices Bakura's Millennium Ring is gone, but decides to worry about it later. Everyone leaves the room, except for Tea who wants to watch Bakura.

But as everyone leaves, Tea, under the control of Malik, holds up Bakura's Millennium Ring.

85 :02x36 - Rage Of The Egyptian Gods

First aired: Sep/20/2003
Guest star: Ted Lewis (Croquet), Wayne Grayson (Roland)

With the first duel complete, a half hour intermission begins before the selection of the two duelists for the second match, however while Mai, Marik, Namu and Ishizu while away the time in their quarters, Yugi and the others head off in search of Kaiba to get him to land the blimp so that Bakura can get medical attention.

Arriving at Kaiba's quarters, the gang are stopped by Mokuba who tells them not to disturb his brother's preparations for the next duel, however Joey ignores him and bangs on Kaiba's door, demanding that he let them in. As Kaiba opens the door and warns Joey not to cause any more trouble, Tristan and Yugi intervene to beg Kaiba to land the ship. Kaiba refuses to land, heartlessly suggesting that Bakura's current status is his own fault for leaving the hospital before he had fully recovered, however as Serenity begs that he land the ship he relents slightly, calling for a medical team to be sent to Bakura's room.

As the gang look on slightly bewildered, Mokuba explains that Kaiba Craft 3 has medical staff on board who far surpass that of Domino Hospital. Pleased that their friend will be alright, the gang leave Kaiba's room and Tristan and Duke once again begin competing for Serenity's affections. As Joey and Yugi wonder how Bakura is doing, the gang remembers that the Millennium Ring has yet to be found and Tristan volunteers himself and Duke to go search for it up at the Stratos Duelling Arena. While Yugi and Joey offer to help, Tristan tells them that they need to focus on the duels as he drags Duke off towards the top of the blimp.

Up on the top of the ship, Tristan and Duke begin to argue once more as their search for the Ring proves fruitless. However as Duke accuses Tristan of being scared of a little competition when it comes to Serenity, a fight between the two breaks out and the two rivals stumble over the edge of the ship. As Tristan does his best to hold onto the ledge, Duke is trying his best to hold onto Tristan lest they fall. Calling for help without success, things look bad for the pair as Tristan begins to lose his grip, however just as his hand slips from the ledge it is grabbed by a man wearing white robes, Shadi.

As Tristan and Duke are pulled back up onto the blimp, Tristan goes to thank the robed stranger who saved them but he is nowhere to be seen. Meanwhile Yugi is sorting his deck ready for the next round and is worried that somebody else might get hurt if he has to use Slifer in the semi-finals, however before he is able to reflect further on the true power of his God Card Shadi enters the room. As Shadi explains that Yugi is starting to comprehend his fate, Yugi explains that he doesn't know very much other than the fact that Yami was an ancient egyptian pharaoh.

While Yugi tries to get some straight answers out of Shadi, the mysterious man explains that he has only come to Kaiba Craft 3 because he senses a misalignment of the Millennium Items. As he goes on to inform Yugi that all the items required to save or destroy the world are gathered upon the ship, he warns Yugi that if the God Cards and the Millennium Items fall into the hands of the wrong people then a catastrophe similar to that which occurred when Maximillion Pegasus first created Duel Monsters might occur once again.

"After Pegasus met Shadi and was given the Millennium Eye, he discovered the origin of the Shadow Games and became obsessed with them, seeking to resurrect their ancient powers. As he discovered the legend of the Egyptian God Cards, Pegasus became determined to find and recreate these three ancient beasts however he had little success until Shadi came to him once again, offering to help him find the tablets that he was looking for."

"Intrigued, Pegasus followed Shadi to an ancient tomb beneath the sands where an underground city was located. Recording everything that he saw on camera, Pegasus was amazed when Shadi used the Millennium Key to prevent the search party being discovered by the many guards in the city and eventually, after many hours of walking, the party arrived at the tomb where the God tablets resided. Although Shadi would not let Pegasus remove anything from the tomb, Pegasus was exstatic and gathered all of the data he needed in order to reproduce the three Gods."

"As Pegasus returned to America to begin producing the prototype God Cards, Shadi was not certain whether Pegasus would be able to control the power of the three beats although he knew that it was his destiny to unseal them. As the project continued, Pegasus learned that all of the people working on designing the God cards had met with unfortunate accidents and, going against Croquet's wishes, decided to finish production of the cards on his own."

"Weeks later, Pegasus finished the paintings of the three Gods and had yet to meet with any unfortunate accident, however as he fell asleep in front of the canvas he had a terrifying dream in which he saw the three Gods destroying Egypt. Realising that it was not Pegasus's destiny to control the God cards, Shadi convinced him to seal the God cards away and so he did so, handing all three cards over to Ishizu Ishtar for safe keeping."

As Shadi warns Yugi that Marik must not be allowed to gather all three cards together, Yami promises him that such a thing will never happen. Honoured to be in the presence of the pharaoh once again, Shadi is confident that Yami will be able to end the chaos like he did in ancient times. Before Yami can ask anything else, he is distracted by an announcement requesting all finalists to proceed to the main concourse, and by the time that he has turned back Shadi has vanished. While Yugi and Yami prepare to head off for the main hall, they hear Tristan discussing having seen a robed man but decide not to mention anything.

Meanwhile, Shadi arrives at Ishizu's room where she explains that although she is ashamed that Marik is to blame for everything that has happened she is determined to save him before it is too late. Over in Bakura's room, Marik still has control over Téa as he decides to keep control of both her and the Millennium Ring for the time being. Nobody in the room notices Shadi as he enters, however as he does so he senses that this is where the disturbance in the Millennium Items is the most strongest. Realising that Marik is behind the disturbance, Shadi can but hope that Marik will be stopped before it is too late.

86 :02x37 - Awakening of Evil (1)

First aired: Sep/20/2003
Guest star: Wayne Grayson (Roland)

With the finalists once again gathered in the main hall, the selection for the second duel begins as the numbers of the six duelists yet to compete begin to rotate within the lottery machine; Kaiba (1), Joey (2), Mai (4), Namu (5), Marik (7), Ishizu (8). As the first ball, number 2, appears from the machine, Joey is excited that he won't have to wait any longer for his chance to shine, and as his opponent is revealed to be duelist 7, Marik Ishtar, Joey is thrilled to be getting the opportunity to take Marik down in the first round.

As everyone makes their way to the dueling arena, Yugi is worried that Marik may use the Millennium Rod to help him with the duel however this doesn't concern Joey who, although angry at Marik for everything that has happened, is sure he will win. As the gang worries that Joey may find it hard to stay focused, Serenity is nervous about seeing her brother duel for the first time but the gang reassure her that everything'll be alright. However as the two duellists make their way to their sides of the arena, Joey begins to get cocky as he announces that he will defeat Marik in exactly nine turns.

While the gang can't believe how lame Joey is acting, Serenity is amazed at how professional her brother is, already having planned exactly how he is going to defeat his opponent. Completely unfazed by the comment, Marik withdraws the Millennium Rod from his belt but then puts it away again, a sign that he intends to duel fairly. As Namu, the real Marik, looks on he is amused at how easily the others have been fooled into believing that Odion is the real Marik. However while he is not worried by Yugi or Joey, he is concerned as to what Kaiba's role in the ancient destinies is and why the stone tablet depicting the final duel between the sorceror and the pharaoh showed Kaiba with the Millennium Rod in his posession.

Confident that Kaiba does not realise the true potential of the God Cards, Namu is sure that as long as Odion continues to fool people into thinking that he is Marik they will be able to defeat both Yugi and Kaiba without any major problems. Kaiba, meanwhile, is eager to see the true power of The Winged Dragon of Ra and merely hopes that Joey will survive long enough for Marik to summon it to the field.

As the duel prepares to begin, Namu contacts Marik mentally and tells him that he must win, and as Marik promises to defeat Joey, the duel begins and both duellists are confident that victory will be theirs. Cheering Joey from the sidelines, the gang is shocked to learn that Joey still hasn't taken back his Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Hoping that Joey will be able to keep his cool against an opponent like Marik, the gang are horrified as Joey, distracted by the prospect of defating Marik and being proclaimed a hero, has the cards from his hand blown away by the wind.

Safely recovering his cards before they are blown away, Joey realises that he will have to be more careful and, focusing on the duel, summons Gearfried the Iron Knight (1800/1600). Although Joey has summoned a strong monster on the opening turn, Marik is not concerned as he activates a Field Magic Card, Temple of the Kings. As an Ancient Egyptian temple appears behind Marik's side of the duelling arena he explains that the Temple will restrict the number of Magic or Trap cards that Joey can play to just one per turn.

However while Joey is restricted Marik faces no such limit as he sets two cards face down and ends his turn, challenging Joey to attack him. As Duke summises that Marik is trying to lure Joey into a trap, Yugi is worried about the full power of Temple of the Kings. Trying his best to keep his cool, Joey sees that he has Giant Trunade in his hand and is confident that he will be able to use it to destroy all of Marik's monsters when the time is right.

Summoning Tiny Guardian (1400/1800) Joey ends his turn without attacking and as Marik's turn begins he sets two more cards before ending his turn. As Yugi and Mai are dumbfounded by the fact that Marik is trying to use such an old strategy to win, Joey is confident that victory is about to be his as he summons Hayabusa Knight (1000/700). With a total attack strength of more than 4000 points at his disposal Joey plays Giant Trunade, hoping to blow away all of Marik's trap cards leaving him open to a direct attack.

As the Trunade closes in on Marik's cards, the gang are sure that Joey is about to win, however at the last minute the Trunade's effect is blocked. As Joey wonders what went wrong, Marik explains that he knew his trap cards were vulnerable and had therefore set a counter trap, Judgement of Anubis. As all of the monsters on Joey's side of the field are destroyed, half of their total ATK is deducted from his Life Points (J's LP: 1900).

Understandably furious at having fallen into Marik's trap, Joey tries to shun the move by claiming that he knew all about Marik's counter trap and was merely testing him. However while the gang do not believe this even for a second, Serenity has full faith in her brother. As Marik sets two new cards on the field, Joey's is beginning to lose his cool as he summons Alligator's Sword (1500/1200). Sure that Marik will activate another trap if he attacks, Joey sets one card and ends his turn however Marik simply passes.

Realising that Marik is trying to force him into attacking, Joey also passes but as Marik passes for a second time Joey cracks and as he summons Rocket Warrior (1500/1300) and orders it to attack. Although surprised that Joey cracked so soon, Marik is pleased as he activates his Eye of Oujot Trap Card, taking control of Joey's Rocket Warrior and redirecting its attack at Joey's own Alligator's Sword.

However Joey is prepared for Marik's Trap as he reveals his Fairy Box, concealing his Alligator within one of many holes. As the Rocket Warrior attacks, it finds itself attacking an empty hole. Having successfully avoided one of Marik's traps, Joey becomes confident that Marik has no monsters in his deck, however Marik's begs to disagree as he explains that while he may have no ordinary monsters, he does have a rare breed of Trap Monster.

As Marik reveals his Embodiment of Opopis, the gang are concerned as to what monster it will summon. However thing go from bad to worse as Marik reveals that he has set not one but three of these traps and as he summons three Opopis Snakes, each with an ATK of 1600, Joey looks done for as Marik prepares for a triple attack that will wipe out almost all of his remaining Life Points.

87 :02x38 - Awakening of Evil (2)

First aired: Sep/27/2003

Joey is facing down three Trap-Creatures, with only two monsters of his own on the field. Lishto takes down them both and then all but 200 of poor Joey's life points. Joey then begins to lose faith in himself and prepares to surrender.
Mai then shouts up to Joey that before he surrenders, to remember the people he beat in Battle City. And if he thinks it won't put them to shame by surrendering here, then go ahead and surrender. Joey then remembers that he has each of their best cards, and that it truly would be a shame to give up before it's really over.
Serenity then tells Joey to keep going, that he's always been there for her, because without him, she would still be in the darkness. This phrase gets to Lishto, as he realizes that as Joey gave his sister light in the darkness, Mrs. Ishtar gave him light in the darkness long ago.
Joey then, instead of surrendering, gets up and begins to fight again. He places one monster in defense mode, then activates a series of cards that allow him to play Jinzo, the anti-trap king. All of Lishto's trap monsters vanish and Lishto is left with nothing to defend his life points. Joey attacks, reducing Lishto to 400.
Lishto activates the swords of Revealing light to stall for time and then does two things: Puts Ra, which Malik has put in his deck, in the box on the altar of the temple, and activates a ritual which summons a terrible and very powerful looking scorpion. What is Joey to do now?

With Dartz finally defeated, Yugi and his friends are taking a well-deserved break. But it doesn't last long, as everyone realizes that they have no way to get back to Domino City. Luckily, Mokuba arrives to say that if they participate in Kaiba Corporation’s new tournament, they'll get a free ride home. Yugi, Joey, and Rebecca each receive their formal invitations and Mokuba and Roland fly the gang to Kaiba Land. There, they enter the Kaiba Dome, where there's a huge dueling arena where duelists can challenge an expert duel computer.

In the dome, Yugi and his friends meet Leon Wilson, a boy who has idolized Yugi since he won Duelist Kingdom, and Rick, a boy with an unbalanced deck consisting of mostly Dragon cards. Yugi gives him one of his Magic cards, and Rick decides to challenge the duel computer. But right when he does, a mysterious man hacks into Kaiba Corporation’s computer system and shuts and locks all the doors out of the main arena, and programs the duel computer to not open the doors unless someone defeats the duel computer. Rick has no chance to defeat the computer on its highest setting, so Yugi quickly changes to Yami Yugi and jumps into the arena to help, but can even the King of Games win with an unbalanced and weak deck?
