Season 1

1 :01x01 - Warriors and Witchdoctors

Michael throws himself headlong into Africa. He scales Cape Town's spectacular Table Mountain, flexing his rock-climbing skills. Later he consults a witch-doctor about the journey ahead. The omens are not auspicious. He then sets off for Johannesburg, South Africa's largest city, where he meets Geraldine, a homeless prostitute. His eyes are opened as he rides shotgun with two young Afrikanas officers from the notorious South African Police Services' Murder and Robbery squad. After two weeks, with his nerves shot to pieces and in desperate need of a break Michael hitch-hikes towards Botswana's Okavango Delta. The truck runs out of petrol and he's left in the middle of nowhere.

Michael finally reaches the great Okavango Delta and kicks back in a dugout canoe to enjoy a slice of the gentler Africa we're all familiar with. He hitches north-west to his hometown in Zimbabwe hoping to relive the rapture he felt as a child in Africa but is confronted almost immediately by a gang of homeless street kids.

While investigating their harrowing tales of sexual abuse he is arrested and interrogated by local police. He is eventually released and given his marching orders. He heads for the mountains and hikes through an isolated border pass into Mozambique. He meets Isabelle, a five year old landmine victim. Over the next two weeks he watches her learn to walk again. She is an inspiration, a symbol of her country's tenacious spirit.
