Benefits Street is broadcast on Channel 4. According to some politicians and the media, benefits are an easy route to a life of luxury. As austerity continues to happen, jobs remain hard to come by and benefits are squeezed, the series reveals the reality of what life is like on benefits, as the residents of one of country's most benefit-dependent streets allows the cameras into their community.
The cameras follow the people living on Kingston Road on the Tilery Estate in Stockton-on-Tees, an area hit hard by recession and economic decline. Mother of six Julie and her friend Sue attempt to set the world straight. Unemployed Lee has been turned down for a crisis loan and is relying on the food bank and his neighbours. Maxwell has been dividing his time between exercising, taking drugs and the sunbed salon and he also shows up late for his court appearance.
The cameras pay one last visit to the street.
