"Shamus" has an utterly beguiling father-son team, Brian Dennehy as an old-fashioned but street-wise house detective, Doug McKeon, as his smart 13-year-old son, who lives with him at an Atlantic City hotel. Dad was awarded custody after the divorce. The possibilities in that single parent setup, coupled with the high rollers, riffraff and criminals attracted to the new gambling mecca, are rarely realized. What you get is the new management (and security), vs. the old, and a yarn about a killer stalking a famous nightclub singer. Threats are made on the life of the hotel's singing star. And Little Shamus gets quite upset when Big Shamus protects her with more than just a professional interest.
