Big Wolf on Campus
was a successful Fox Family
series, that contained mild elements of science fiction and spoofed various horror films, while not taking itself very seriously. It chronicled the trials and tribulations of Tommy Dawkins (Brandon Quinn
) in his senior year, a normal high-school jock, captain of the football team, after he is turned into a werewolf. Not knowing how to deal with this problem, Tommy turns to the school's biggest outcast, Merton J. Dingle (Danny Smith
), a wannabe goth who is well-versed in the supernatural, and accompanies Tommy on his adventures.
During the first season, Tommy's love interest was Stacey Hanson (Rachelle LeFevre
), the school's lead cheerleader. However, Tommy and Stacey's relationship never got very far, as Tommy would always have to bail on their dates, because he transformed into a werewolf whenever things got emotional. At the climax of the first season, Stacey left for college, and during the second season opener, another love interest was introduced: Lori Baxter (Aimée Castle
). Unlike Stacey, Lori quickly found out Tommy's secret, and, with an interest in the supernatural herself (and being an avid kickboxer), Lori agreed to keep it, and soon became great friends with Tommy and Merton.
While the series was popular and successful, and brought good ratings for the network during its run, Fox Family
soon became ABC Family
, and, being owned by Disney (a company that has a policy in which all their shows end after 65 episodes), the series was cancelled. Thankfully, however, the producers had been notified, and were able to write up a series finale. The series has a total of 3 seasons and 65 produced episodes.
As for the series today, there is a S01 VHS Box-Set in France, and a small promotional DVD in the U.K., but that's about it. Downloads are floating around over the internet, but no links will be disclosed in this guide.
