A series, based on a biography of Johnny Jordaan, about the eventful life of most popular Dutch singer. It begins when Johnny, a singing waiter poorly paid, enters a contest in hotel Krasnapolski.
With "De Parel van de Jordaan", he wins convincingly and his career makes a giant leap. But Johnny is not happy, he has a poor health and discovers his homosexual feelings, back then an absolute taboo.
He does a suicide attempt, his marriage dissolves and his friendship with Wim Sonneveld comes to an end. In a few years he transforms into an early old, ailing man. But then he's approached for a gig at a big party in the Jordaan ...
Johnny has barely recovered from his suicide attempt, when he is bombarded as the center of attention, because of his copper marriage to Totty. For Arie this is the limit. He resigns and sees his marriage to Karin end.
Later on Johnny's relationship with Sonneveld has ended and his marriage to Totty has ended up in divorce. In a few years time, he has, due to the grief over his deceased mother and two brain hemorrhages, turned into an early old, ailing man. But then he's approached for a gig at a big party in the Jordaan.
