In NBC's family show "Boone", Thomas Byrd plays an aspiring country singer whose parents have other plans for his life. The series is set in the South during the '50s (and was filmed in Nashville). The family has already lost an older son in World War II, so their hopes are pinned on Boone. The series was created by Earl Hamner. He characterizes "Boone" as "homespun." Boone is not another Elvis; he's a composite of Hank Williams, Ricky Nelson and Buddy Holly.
